  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic information about hierarchical spatial compositions of lounges and corridors in elderly skilled nursing facilities through the analysis of elderly residents' behaviors. For the study, five researchers observed the behavior of the elderly in the lounges and corridors of five facilities from 10 AM. to 4 PM. at 30-minute intervals for the investigation of hierarchical spatial compositions. And then, the design characteristics of public and semi-public area were analyzed by evaluating their openness, centrality, accessibility, and stimulations. The results of this study were as follows. First, the public area was focused on the lounge, and the semi-public area was formed on the comers of corridors and the parts of lounge walls. The private and semi-private area were distributed to the whole lounges and corridors. Second, in morning time, the semi-public area was concentrated on the wall of lounge instead of on the comers of corridors, and in afternoon, the residents' behaviors relevant to the private and semi-public areas were increased. Especially, the comers of corridors were utilized as the main semi-public areas. Third, the public area could encourage the participation of the elderly residents when it was opened to other areas more than 40% and close to the nursing station. But, the central garden made the accessibility from the elderly private room to the public area not good. The ideal openness of semi-public area was indicated as 25-30%, and its centrality was $10{\sim}15m$ which was a little far from the nursing station. Forth, furniture arrangements gave large influence to the behavior characteristics in the semi-public areas. Especially, sofa arrangements in the comers of corridors increased informal interactions among the elderly. In conclusion, the public area needs high rate of openness and should satisfy both of the centrality and accessibility so that it lead the elderly participations from the private and semi-private areas. The semi-public area should be in a little distance from nursing station and provide with furniture sets for the elderly informal interactions.

  • This paper is analyzed for the thermal characteristics(1 year) of the 6 components(DC breaker, DC filter(including capacitor and discharge resistance), IGBT(Insulated gate bipolar mode transistor), AC filter, AC breaker, etc.) of a photovoltaic power generation-based PCS(Power conditioning system) below 20 kW. Among the modules, the discharge resistance included in the DC filter indicated the highest heat at $125^{\circ}C$, and such heat resulting from the discharge resistance had an influence on the IGBT installed on the rear side the board. Therefore, risk priority through risk priority number(RPN) of FMEA(Failure modes and effects analysis) sheet is conducted for classification into top 10 %. According to thermal characteristics and FMEA, it is necessary to pay attention to not only the in-house defects found in the IGBT, but also the conductive heat caused by the discharge resistance. Since it is possible that animal, dust and others can be accumulated within the PCS, it is possible that the heat resulting from the discharge resistance may cause fire. Accordingly, there are two options that can be used: installing a heat sink while designing the discharge resistance, and designing the discharge resistance in a structure capable of avoiding heat conduction through setting a separation distance between discharge resistance and IGBT. This data can be used as the data for conducting a comparative analysis of abnormal signals in the process of developing a safety device for solar electricity-based photovoltaic power generation systems, as the data for examining the fire accidents caused by each module, and as the field data for setting component management priorities.

  • A fuel supply system of heavy-duty CNG engine is composed as a module structure which is integrated by about 6 injectors. There are only one input and output passage for gas fuel supply in this injector module. The response performance for transient operation of an CNG engine is very poor because only one output fuel supply line is connected to the intake pipe after a throttle valve. In this study, a new guideline and internal flow design for the CNG injector module is suggested for the improvement of response performance by fluid dynamic simulations. As a result, the response performance of gas fuel supply can be improved by decreasing the total volume of internal flow passages and a same distance design from each injector to the exit of module shows good response performance and acquirement of linearity of fuel supply. But the injection order has little influence to injection performances.

  • In this paper, we propose a digital method for transmitting audio signals using LED visible light communication system. In the proposed method, we compare the method for transmitting audio signal in analog signal and the method for transmitting by digital signal. When amplifying the audio sound and transmitting the analog signal using the LED visible light communication, attenuation corresponding to the transmission distance occurs, and there is a disadvantage that it is noisy. In order to overcome this, we propose a method for transmitting digital audio signals. The proposed method has the advantage of reducing the influence of noise, but it turned out that it is affected much by the LED blinking speed. Various methods to overcome this need to be continuously studied.

  • We compared the dietary behaviors and living habits of Han Children living in both China and Korea to find any influences from the different living environments. Three hundred $5^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ -grade children in China and two hundred thirty three $5^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ -grade children in a Chinese school in Korea were surveyed via questionnaire. Mean BMI was higher and sleeping hours were lower in the children living in Korea compared to the children living in China. Mean age and education level of the parents were higher in the children living in Korea. Most of the dietary behaviors discovered via the questionnaire showed similar tendencies in the two groups. However, in terms of skipping breakfast, deviating in food habits, snacking before sleeping, and snacking right after eating a meal, the children living in Korea showed significantly higher frequencies. Also, children living in Korea showed significantly lower frequencies of overeating, snacking while watching TV or using the computer, and eating food when stressed, than children living in China. In living habits, children living in Korea do less regular exercise and use buses or cars more frequently for short distance transportation and spend more time to watch TV or computer than the children living in China. Therefore, it seems that different living environments may somewhat influence the dietary behaviors and living habits of children even if they have the same ethnic background.

  • Soil disturbance induced by installation of mandrel driven vertical drains decreases the in situ horizontal hydraulic conductivity of the soil in the vicinity of the drains, decelerating the consolidation rate. According to available literature, several different profiles for the hydraulic conductivity variation with the radial distance from the vertical drain, influencing the excess pore water pressure dissipation rate, have been identified. In addition, it is well known that the visco-plastic properties of the soil also influence the excess pore water pressure dissipation rate and consequently the settlement rate. In this study, a numerical solution adopting an elastic visco-plastic model with nonlinear creep function incorporated in the consolidation equations has been developed to investigate the effects of disturbed zone properties on the time dependent behaviour of soft soil deposits improved with vertical drains and preloading. The employed elastic visco-plastic model is based on the framework of the modified Cam-Clay model capturing soil creep during excess pore water pressure dissipation. Besides, nonlinear variations of creep coefficient with stress and time and permeability variations during the consolidation process are considered. The predicted results have been compared with V$\ddot{a}$sby test fill measurements. According to the results, different variations of the hydraulic conductivity profile in the disturbed zone result in varying excess pore water pressure dissipation rate and consequently varying the effective vertical stresses in the soil profile. Thus, the creep coefficient and the creep strain limit are notably influenced resulting in significant changes in the predicted settlement rate.

  • Scatter-air ratios are used for the purpose of calculating scattered dose in the medium. The computation of the primary and the scattered dose separately is particularly useful in the dosimetry of irregular fields with shielding block in radiation field, dose distribution of scattered radiation using 18MeV Linear accelerator and Co-50 teletherapy measured. The effect of scattered radiation dose by protecting block was been ignored in radiation therapy, 2-3% of scattered radiation may be 90-200 cGy which could be influence vitial complications such as cataract, oligospermia or sterility. So that exect calculation of such scattered radiation especially for large field $\bar{c}$ small protection of vitial organ is very important. The purpose of this article is to calculate scattered radiation by protecting block exactly for irregular field $\bar{c}$ Linac or Co-60 irradiation and to applicate these data in clinical radiation field. Authors could obtain following results. 1. The lesser angle between shielding block showed more scattered radiation. 2. With decreasing distance between shielding blocks, the dependent of scattered radiation were increased. 3. Output of 18MeV Linear accelerator and Co-60 was related linear proportion on field size, but independent according to the size of shielding block in 18MeV Linear accelerator.

  • The present study is conducted to investigate the local heat/mass transfer characteristics on the shroud with blade tip clearances. The relative motion between blade and shroud has little influence on the overall heat transfer characteristics, except some local effects. Therefore, the relative motion between the blade and shroud is neglected in this study. A naphthalene sublimation method is employed to determine the detailed local heat/mass transfer coefficients on the surface of the shroud. The tip clearance is changed from 0.66% to 2.85% of the blade chord length. The flow enters the gap between the blade tip and shroud at the pressure side due to the pressure difference. Therefore, the heat/mass transfer characteristics on the shroud are changed significantly from those with endwall. At first, high heat/mass transfer occurs along the profile of blade at the pressure side due to the entrance effect and acceleration of the gap flow. Then, the heat/mass transfer coefficients on the shroud increase along the suction side of the blade because tip leakage vortices are generated and interact with the main flow. The results show that the heat/mass transfer characteristics are changed largely with the gap distance between the tip of turbine blade and the shroud.

  • The influence of arrangement and length of discrete ribs on heat/mass transfer and friction loss is investigated. Mass transfer experiments are conducted to obtain the detailed local heat/mass transfer information on the ribbed wall. The aspect ratio (width/height) of the duct is 2.04 and the rib height is one tenth of the duct height, such that the ratio of the rib height to hydraulic diameter is 0.0743. The ratio of rib-to-rib distance to rib height is 10. The discrete ribs were made by dividing each continuous rib into 2, 3 or 5 pieces and attached periodically to the top and the bottom walls of the duct with a parallel orientation The combined effects of rib angle and length of the discrete ribs on heat/mass transfer ae considered for the rib angles $({\alpha})\;of\;90^{\circ}\;and\;45^{\circ}$. As the number of the discrete ribs increases, the uniformity of the heat/mass transfer distributions increases. For $(\alpha})=90^{\circ}$, the heat/mass transfer enhancement with the discrete ribs is remarkable, while the heat/mass transfer performances are slightly higher than that of the transverse continuous ribs due to the accompanied high friction loss penalty. For $(\alpha})=90^{\circ}$, the average heat/mass transfer coefficients and the heat/mass transfer performances decrease slightly with the discrete ribs compared to the case of the angled continuous ribs.

  • This paper, as a study for the serviceability design of railway bridges with concrete track, presents the effects of design parameters of tracks and bridges on the forces acting on the rail supports of the track. To calculate the forces acting on the track, an unequal spacing discrete supported model with different spacing of rail supports was induced. Design parameters are the rail support spacing of expansion joints above abutments or piers of bridges, the distance from the support of a girder to the last rail support on the end of the girder, and the number of additional rail supports. The causes of the displacement of track are axial force, unit vertical displacement, and unit rotation. From the analysis, the maximum compressive force and the maximum uplifting force acting on the rail supports were determined and the effects of the rail support spacing on the forces acting on the track were presented.
