The curved panel is widely used for display of TVs and smart phones. This paper proposes a new auto-focusing method for curved panel inspection system. Since the distance between the camera and the panel varies with the curve position, the camera should change its focus at every inspection time. In order to reduce the focusing time, we propose an effective focusing method that considers the mathematical model of panel curve. The Lagrange polynomial equation is applied to modeling the panel curve. The foci of initial three points are used to get the curve equation, and the other foci are calculated automatically from the curve equation. The experiment result shows that the proposed method can reduce the focusing time.
This paper deals with the geometric fitting algorithms for parametric curves and surfaces in 2-D/3-D space, which estimate the curve/surface parameters by minimizing the square sum of the shortest distances between the curve/surface and the given points. We identify three algorithmic approaches for solving the nonlinear problem of geometric fitting. As their general implementation we describe a new algorithm for geometric fitting of parametric curves and surfaces. The curve/surface parameters are estimated in terms of form, position, and rotation parameters. We test and evaluate the performances of the algorithms with fitting examples.

The marine traffic accidents go on increasing owing to the increment of marine traffic capacity, and the solutions about these matters are vigorously considering by many researchers. When the watch officer navigates to the narrow channel, bend or an area obscured by an intervening obstruction and around the harbour limit he must follow the planned track. The watch officer can safely navigate along the course laid down only when he alters his course in advance before the new course distance earlier than the course alternation point. If we call this point to be changed in advance a turning bearing, the turning bearing is decided according to the direction and the range from the clearing objects. The turning bearing helps the watch officer to determine whether the ship is at wheel-over position or not. The author in this paper suggest how to make and use a curve graph which is decided according to the direction and the distance from the clearing objects. If the watch officer utilize this curve graph he can judge swiftly and precisely whether his ship is at the wheel - over position or not.

PURPOSE: The Fukuda test can be used at home and in school to diagnose scoliosis at an early stage and prevent serious curvature of the spine. This study aimed to use the Fukuda test to detect scoliosis. An additional aim was to invoke the national interest in imbalanced postures and habits, which result in scoliosis, by providing data obtained in periodic assessments. METHODS: The study consisted of 35 idiopathic scoliosis patients (22 in right lumbar spinal region and 13 in the left lumbar spinal region). The distance of displacement and angle of displacement were measured following the Fukuda test. A correlation analysis was then used to examine the distance of displacement and angles of displacement and rotation with regard to the direction of the curve in scoliosis. RESULTS: There was a significant negative correlation (p<0.00) between the direction of the curve in scoliosis and the angle of displacement, but there was no correlation between the cobb's angle and distance of displacement or between the cobb's angle and angle of rotation. CONCLUSION: The Fukuda test did not capture changes in spinal curvature such as the cobb's angle, or subsequent changes in the muscles. Thus, the Fukuda test is not suited to examining the direction or status of the thoracic curve in scoliosis patients. Simple methods to objectively measure scoliosis need to be developed.
A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve plots the true positive rate of a classier against its false positive rate, both of which are accuracy measures of the classier. The ROC curve has several interesting geometrical properties, including concavity which is a necessary condition for a classier to be optimal. In this paper, we study the nonparametric maximum likelihood estimator (NPMLE) of a concave ROC curve and its modification to reduce bias. We characterize the NPMLE as a solution to a geometric programming, a special type of a mathematical optimization problem. We find that the NPMLE is close to the convex hull of the empirical ROC curve and, thus, has smaller variance but positive bias at a given false positive rate. To reduce the bias, we propose a modification of the NPMLE which minimizes the $L_1$ distance from the empirical ROC curve. We numerically compare the finite sample performance of three estimators, the empirical ROC curve, the NMPLE, and the modified NPMLE. Finally, we apply the estimators to estimating the optimal ROC curve of the variance-threshold classier to segment a low depth of field image and to finding a diagnostic tool with multiple tests for detection of hemophilia A carrier.

A theoretical prediction model of fiber bridging curve was established based on the assumption that fibers are uniformly distributed on the crack surface. However, the distance between fibers and their orientation with respect to crack surface can greatly affect the prediction of fiber bridging curve. Since, the shape of fiber bridging curve is a critical factor for predicting the tensile stress-strain relationship of ECC, it is expected that the assumption of uniform distribution of fiber may cause a significant error when predicting the tensile behavior of ECC. To overcome this shortcoming, a new prediction method of stress-strain relation of ECC is proposed based on the modified fiber bridging curve. Only effective fibers are taken into account considering the effects of their orientation and distance between them. Moreover, the approach for formulating the tensile stress-strain relation is discussed, where a procedure is presented for obtaining important parameters, such as the first crack strength, the peak stress, the displacement at peak stress, tensile strain capacity, and the crack spacing. Subsequent uniaxial tensile tests were performed to validate the proposed method. It was found that the predicted stress-strain relations obtained based on the proposed modified fiber bridging curve exhibited a good agreement with experimental results.
Under combat simulation environment when inputting the detection performance data of the real system into the simulated object the given data affects the simulation analysis result. ACQUIRE-Target Task Performance Metric (TTPM)-Target Angular Size (TAS) model is used as a target acquisition model to simulate the detection ability of entities in the main combat simulation tool. This model estimates the decomposition curve of the object sensor and output the detection distance according to the target type. However, it is not easy to apply the performance of the new detection object that the user wants to input to the target acquisition model. Users want to input the detection distance into the target acquisition model, but the target acquisition model requires sensor decomposition curve data according to encounter conditions. In this paper, we propose a method of inversely deriving the sensor decomposition curve data of the target acquisition model by taking the detection distance to the target as an input. Here, the sensor decomposition curve data simultaneously satisfies each detection distance for three types of targets: personnel, ground vehicles, and aircraft. Finally, the detection distance of various reconnaissance equipment is applied to the detection object, and the detection effect according to the reconnaissance equipment is analyzed.
For content-based image retrieval, the earth mover's distance and the optimal color composition distance are proposed to measure the dissimilarity. Although providing good retrieval results, both methods are too time-consuming to be used in a large image database. To solve the problem, we propose a new distance function that calculates an approximate earth mover's distance in linear time. To calculate the dissimilarity in linear time, the proposed approach employs the space-filling curve. We have performed extensive experiments to show the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed approach. The results reveal that our approach achieves almost the same results with the EMD in linear time.
Line-laser beams are used for depth measurement of welding beads along the circumference of a pipe. For this, first we project a line-laser beam on an rotating pipe and take a sequence of images of the beam projected on the pipe using a CCD camera. Second, the projected line laser beam in each image is detected, converted into a thin curve. Finally measure the distance between the thinned curve and an imaginary line. When a line-laser beam is projected to a rough metal surface such as arc welding beads, the beam is severely scattered. This severe scattering makes the thinned curve perturbed. In this paper, we propose a thinning method robust against scattering of line lasers. First, we extract a projected line laser beam region using an adaptive threshold. Second, we model a thinned curve with a spline curve with control points. Next, we adjust the control points to fit the curve to the projected line-laser beam. Finally, we take a weighted mean of thin curves on a sequence of image frames. Experiments shows that the proposed thinning method results in a thinning curve, which is smooth and fit to the projected line-laser beam with small error.
In order to investigate the compression characteristics on the some vegetables-cucumber, garlic, ginger, potato, and radish-compression force, distance, and time were measured with a Struct-O-Graph and correlations between them were investigated. Force-distance and distance-time curves were showed simply and reflection points were showed rarely. The time to rupture point was long of 11.7sec at the compression speed of 60mm/min and of 6.16sec at the compression speed of 120mm/min in potato, and short of 9.65, 4.55sec at the different compression speed in garlic, respectively. The rupture force was large of 16.64~20.00N at the different compression speed in potato and radish, and the sample at rupture point was showed crushing behavior under probe. These phenomena were suggested because compression strength of sample was different. In the result of regression analysis for force-time and distance-time to the rupture point, the correlation coefficients were above 0.96, and difference of among samples was small. The slopes of force-time were large of 1.772~3.385 in cucumber and small of 1.743~3.338 in potato, and the slopes of distance-time were obtained with reverse results.
