동종금속용접이 이종금속용접부 잔류응력에 미치는 영향 평가 시 안전단 길이에 따른 효과 (Effects of Similar Metal Weld on Residual Stress in Dissimilar Metal Weld According to Safe End Length)

  • Nozzle in nuclear power plant is connected to pipe using safe end. Dissimilar metal weld between nozzle and safe end is followed by similar metal weld between safe end and pipe. And thus residual stress in dissimilar metal weld can be affected by similar metal weld. Similar metal weld impose bending stress on dissimilar metal weld, which is according to the length of safe end. In this study, simple nozzle model which covers various radius to thickness ratios was proposed to quantify residual stress in dissimilar metal weld based on finite element analyses. As a result, short length of safe end was proved to be more effective to mitigate residual stress in dissimilar metal weld and critical effective length of safe end is provided according to the radius to thickness ratio.

  • Determination of weld-induced residual stress has been an important issue in nuclear power industry because several failures were reported in dissimilar metal weld parts due to primary water stress corrosion cracking. In this context, a couple of remarkable round robin analyses were conducted to quantify the welding simulation variables and to establish optimized numerical analysis process. The purpose of the present research is to introduce welding simulation results for a safety and relief nozzle, which has a dissimilar metal weld part as well as a similar metal weld part. First, finite element analyses are carried out to calculate residual stresses at the inside of nozzle considering only dissimilar metal welding.   • The primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) of dissimilar metal weld based on Alloy 82/182 is one of major issues in material degradation of nuclear components. It is well known that the crack initiation and growth due to PWSCC is influenced by material's susceptibility to PWSCC and distribution of welding residual stress. Therefore, modeling the welding residual stress is of interest in understanding crack formation and growth in dissimilar metal weld. Currently in Korea, a numerical round robin study is undertaken to provide guidance on the welding residual stress analysis of dissimilar metal weld. As a part of this effort, the present paper investigates distribution of welding resisual stress of a ferritic low alloy steel nozzle with dissimilar metal weld using Alloy 82/182. Two-dimensional thermo-mechanical finite element analyses are carried out to simulate multi-pass welding process on the basis of the detailed design and fabrication data. The present results are compared with those from other participants, and more works incorporating physical measurements are going to be performed to quantify the uncertainties relating to modelling assumptions.

  • In this paper, we studied low cycle fatigue behavior of laser welded sheet metal that used automobile body panel. Specimens were manufactured as weld condition and sheet metal using automobile manufacturing company at present. For to know mechanical properties, micro Vicker's hardness test was performed of specimens. But, we can't confirm mechanical properties of weld bead and heat affected zone because laser weld makes very narrow weld bead and heat affected zone than other welding method. Therefore, we performed low cycle fatigue test with similar weldment, dissimilar weldment, similar thickness and dissimilar weldment, and dissimilar thickness and dissimilar weldment for fatigue properties of thickness and welding direction. As well, we analysis stress distribution of base metal, weld bead, and heat affected zone according to strain load using finite element method.

  • Weld overlay is one of the residual stress mitigation methods which arrest crack initiation and crack growth. Therefore weld overlay can be applied to the region where cracking is likely to be. An overlay weld used in this manner is termed a preemptive weld overlay(PWOL). In pressurized water reactor(PWR) dissimilar metal weld is susceptible region for primary water stress corrosion cracking(PWSCC). In order to examine the effect of PWOL on residual stress mitigation, PWOL was applied to a specific dissimilar metal weld of Kori nuclear power plant by finite element analysis method. As a result, strong compressive residual stress was made in PWSCC susceptible region and PWOL was proved effective preemptive repair method for weldment.

  • 이종금속용접부에 대한 실제 용접 공정 중 용접부에서 결함이 발견되면 이를 제거하고 보수용접이 수행된다. 일반적으로 보수용접을 수행하면 용접부에서 인장 잔류응력이 크게 증가될 수 있는 것으로 알려져 있다. 따라서 Alloy 82/182를 사용하여 보수용접이 수행된 이종금속용접부의 일차수 응력부식 균열 현상을 평가하기 위해서는 보수용접에 의한 용접부의 응력 변화를 정확하게 평가해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 비선형 유한요소해석을 수행하여 보수용접에 의한 원자력 이종금속 맞대기 용접부의 응력 분포를 평가하였다. 특히 보수용접 공정 모사를 위한 여러 유한요소 해석방법이 이종금속용접부의 응력분포에 미치는 영향을 평가하였다.

  • his paper aimed to understand the residual stress in the dissimilar metal welds of nuclear power plant. Two kinds of residual stress were considered, which caused by welding and machining. Residual stress due to mechanical machining was measured by hole-drilling technique and x-ray diffraction method for the SA508 and F316L. Weld residual stress at dissimilar metal weld between SA508 and F316L was evaluated by FEA. Residual stress profiles were obtained for the inside surface and through thickness of welds. Machining effect was also analyzed by FEA. According to the residual stress measurement, it was observed that mechanical machining can generate tensile stress on the surface of the test material. However, FEA results showed that mechanical machining did not increase the tensile stress on the surface of weld region. Further study with more elaborate measurement and numerical analysis is required to identify the effect of machining on residual stress in the dissimilar metal weld region.

  • This paper presents the results of finite element analysis for the effects of hydrostatic test and operating condition on the weld residual stress at dissimilar metal weld of a pressurizer safety nozzle in a nuclear power plant. For the study, the weld residual stress at ambient condition was analyzed using ABAQUS in the first place. After the weld residual stress analysis, the hydrostatic test condition and operating condition was applied to the same model one after another. The weld residual stress was observed to change due to the successive hydrostatic test and operating condition. The axial residual stresses on inner surface of the dissimilar metal weld and HAZ region were decreased by hydrostatic test and operating condition, which gives beneficial effect on preventing primary water stress corrosion cracking.

  • Weld overlay is one of the residual stress mitigation method which arrest crack. An overlay weld sued in this manner is termed a preemptive weld overlay(PWOL). PWOL was good for distribution of residual stress of dissimilar metal weld(DMW) by previous research. Because range of overlay welding is wide relatively, residual stress distribution on PWR is affected by welding sequence. In order to examine the effect of welding sequence, PWOL was applied to a specific DMW of KORI nuclear power plant by finite element analysis method. As a result, the welding direction that from nozzle to pipe is better good for residual stress distribution on PWR.

이종 금속의 아크 스폿 용접성 및 접합부 형상 예측에 관한 연구 (A Study on Weldability and Prediction of Nugget Shape in Dissimilar Metal Arc Spot Weld)

  • In this study, the lap welding between austenitic stainless steel and carbon steel was carried out using arc spot welding process and weldability of welded specimens was estimated. From the tensile-shear strength test, micro Vickers harness test, and microstructure observation, specimen of $psi6.5mm$(hole of upper plate) showed the best results in terms of tensile-shear strength and nugget shape. And there was an unmix zone in fusion boundary between the carbon steel base metal and bulk weld metal. This zone had very width with the hard microstructure. The shape of weld nugget in arc spot welding of dissimilar metal melds was predicted by searching thermal history of a weld joint through a three-dimensional finite element model. From the numerical analysis, predicted the shape of weld nugget showed good agreement with the experiment.
