Ternary phased graphene/silica/EVOH nanocomposite coating materials were prepared via sol-gel process and solution blending process. From both SEM observations and XRD analysis, the exfoliated structure and dispersion state of graphene nanosheets and silica particles in the nanocomposites as well as the intercalated and exfoliated structure of the prepared graphene oxide were confirmed. The incorporation of GrO and silica at appropriate content resulted in remarkable improvement in oxygen barrier property of the ternary phased nanocompoiste-coated BOPP films, compared with that of binary(silica/EVOH) phased nanocomposite coating films, however, at excess amount of GrO and silica, very slight variation was observed due to incomplete exfoliation, dispersion of graphene tactoids, and formation of micro cracks in the silica clusters. In addition, the transparency of nanocomposite-coated film was investigated by measuring the light transmittance as a function of GrO contents, suggesting the possibility for the application of food packaging films.
The dispersion/flocculation behavior of bentonite is a major concern in performance of drilling fluid. We studied the dispersion/flocculation characteristics of three commercial bentonites [two CMC (carboxymethyl cellulose) treated and one untreated] in waters of different pHs and salt concentrations. We also examined changes in the viscosity of bentonite suspensions in such waters as a major rheological property of drilling fluid. The dispersion/flocculation behaviors of bentonites were measured by two methods: colorimetric and light scattering method. Light scattering method allows estimating the floc diameter and flocculation rate. The dispersion and flocculation behaviors were diverse with the different bentonites and water qualities. In distilled water, all the bentonites were well dispersed up to first 10 minutes. After that, the CMC-bearing bentonites were flocculated. In salt waters, all the samples were flocculated and the flocculation rate is varied with salt concentration and polymer content. The volume of settled flocs decreased with increasing salt concentration. The flocculation rate and floc diameter increased with decreasing pH of solutions, whereas the volume of settled flocs increased with increasing pH of solutions. The bentonites of fast flocculation behavior had low viscosity. The results of the present study will be helpful in applying bentonites to drilling fluids in diverse environments.
Solid dispersion is used to improve the solubility of water-insoluble drug. Release properties depend on the characteristics of polymer and the physicochemical properties of solid dispersion. In this study the solid dispersions of ibuprofen and cellulose acetate were prepared using spray-drying and rotary evaporation. The physicochemical properties of the solid dispersions were analyzed by SEM, XRD, DSC, and FTIR. The hydrophilicity of polymer was analyzed by measuring the contact angle of water. The results of DSC and XRD analysis demonstrated that the crystallinity of ibuprofen was changed by solid dispersion preparation. The results of contact angle showed that hydrophilicity was proportional to polymer content. Release profile showed that for solid dispersion. the release rate of ibuprofen decreased as polymer content increased in intestinal juice (pH 6.8). The dissolution rate of ibuprofen was improved with increasing polymer content in gastric juice (pH 1.2).

The polyurethane resin used for the garment skin leather surface coating was synthesized by varying the content of polyethylene glycol (PEG) in [NCO] / [OH] mole % ratio. The mechanical properties of the synthesized polyurethane resin were analyzed by SEM, FT-IR, UTM. As the [NCO] / [OH] mole % ratio of nonionic poly ethylene glycol (PEG) increased, there was no change in flexural resistance (dry, wet) and abrasion resistance and tensile strength measurement value were lowered. In contrast, the elongation property values were increased. The result of viscosity measurement showed that the viscosity became thinner with increasing [NCO] / [OH] mole % of PEG.

This study aims to obtain fundamental understandings involving the manufacturing processes of nano-composites with chemically surface-modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs), and explore the role of functionalized MWCNTs in the epoxy/MWCNT composites. For this purpose, MWCNTs were purified by the thermo-chemical oxidation process, and incorporated into an epoxy matrix by in situ polymerization process, the surface of MWCNTs were functionalized with carboxyl functions which were demonstrated by an infrared spectroscopy. The mechanical properties of epoxy/MWCNT nano-composites were measured to investigate the role of a chemically functionalized carbon nanotubes. To improve the dispersion quality of MWCNTs in the epoxy matrix, methanol and acetone were exploited as dispersion media with sonification. The epoxy/MWCNT nano-composites with 1 or 2 wt.% addition of functionalized carbon nanotubes show an improved tensile strength and wear resistance in comparison with pure epoxy, which shows the mechanical load transfer improves through chemical bonds between epoxy and functionalized MWCNTs. The tensile strength with 7 wt.% functionalized MWCNTs increases by 28% and the wear resistance is dramatically improved by 100 times.

Nanocomposites are used as a new class of polymer system and many researchers have been interested in the clay nanocomposite because of its good mechanical properties, heat resistance, flame retardancy, and barrier property. Modified layered silicates as fillers are dispersed at a nanometer-level within a polymer matrix and then new extraordinary properties are observed. In this study, polypropylene/clay nanocomposites were prepared in a twin screw extruder by the melt compounding method. In order to increase the compatibility of PP with the clay, the MAPP was used as a compatibilizer. And organic modified clays were used as a nanometric filler during the melt extrusion. Through the analysis of SAXS, WAXS, the dispersion of clay was investigated. These nanocomposites compared with a neat polypropylene/talc composite have high modulus, low toughness, and reduced shrinkage at the stable dispersion.

This paper presents a novel single-step method to prepare the Ag nanometallic particle dispersed fluid (nanofluid) by electrical explosion of wire in liquid, deionized water (DI water). X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) were used to investigate the characteristics of the Ag nanofluids. Zeta potential was also used to measure the dispersion properties of the as-prepared Ag nanofluid. Pure Ag phase was detected in the nanofluids using water. FE-SEM analysis shows that the size of the particles formed in DI water was about 88 nm and Zeta potential value was about -43.68 without any physical and chemical treatments. Thermal conductivity of the as-prepared Ag particle dispersed nanofluid shows much higher value than that of pure DI water.

This article presents a band-stop filter (BSF) by using a periodic structure property of frequency selective surfaces (FSSs) embedded in a microstrip transmission line. The proposed BSF is designed with FSS unit cells modifying the cross-loop slots. The BSF is interpreted with an equivalent circuit model and a dispersion diagram. The center frequency (fo) of the BSF is 6.6GHz. Proposed filter increases the number of unit cell. As a result, 3dB bandwidth is wider and insertion loss is reduced. Also, Facbricated BSF exhibits uniplanar geometry, simple fabrication.

In this study, we investigated the effects of precipitates and oxide dispersoids on the high-temperature mechanical properties of oxide dispersion-strengthened (ODS) Ni-based super alloys. Two ODS Ni-based super alloy rods with different chemical compositions were fabricated by high-energy milling and hot extrusion process at 1150 ℃ to investigate the effects of precipitates on high-temperature mechanical properties. Further, the MA6000N alloy is an improvement over the commercial MA6000 alloy, and the KS6000 alloy has the same chemical composition as the MA6000 alloy. The phase and microstructure of Ni-based super alloys were investigated by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. It was found that MC carbide precipitates and oxide dispersoids in the ODS Ni-based super alloys developed in this study may effectively improve high-temperature hardness and creep resistance.
We present a spectroscopic study of the globular clusters (GCs) in the giant elliptical galaxy (gE) M86 in the Virgo galaxy cluster. Using the spectra obtained from the Multi-Object Spectroscopy (MOS) mode of Faint Object Camera and Spectrograph (FOCAS) on the Subaru Telescope, we measured the radial velocities of 25 GCs, the metallicities of 16 GCs, and the ages of 8 GCs in M86. The mean velocity and the vocity dispersion of the GCs are < ${\upsilon}_p$ > = -354 ${\pm}$ 80 km/s and ${\sigma}_p$ = 292 ${\pm}$ 32km/s, respectively. The M86 GC system shows some rotation with a large uncertainty and the velocity dispersion of the blue GC system is 60 km/s larger than that of the red GC system. The mean metallicity and age of M86 GCs are <[Fe/H]> = -1.13 ${\pm}$ 0.47 and = 9.7 ${\pm}$ 4.0 Gyr, respectively. We found one GC younger than 5 Gyr. We discuss the spectroscopic results of the M86 GC system in comparison with the GC systems in other gEs.
