A multi-region model for solute transport through saturated soils has been developed to describe preferential flow. The model consists of numerous discrete pore groups, which are characterized by a discrete dispersion coefficient, flow velocity, and porosity . The hydraulic properties for each pore group are derived from a soil's hydraluic conductivity and soil water characteristic functions . Flow in pore group is described by the classical advection-disersion equation (ADE). An implict finite difference scheme was applied to the governing equation that results in a block-tridiagonal system of equations that is very efficient and allows the soil to be divided into any number of pore groups. The numerical technique is derived from methods used to solve coupled equations in fluid dynamics problems and can also be applied to the transport of interacting solutes. The results of the model are compared to the experimental data from published papers. This paper contributes on the characteristics of the method when applied to the parallel porosity model to describe preferential flow of solutes in soil.

Oil-based nanofluids are prepared by dispersing spherical and fiber-shaped $Al_2O_3$ and AlN nanoparticles in transformer oil. Two hydrophobic surface modification processes are compared in this investigation. It is obvious that the combination of nanoparticle, surfactant and surface modification process is very important for the dispersity of nanofluids. For ($Al_2O_3$+AIN) particles with 1% volume fraction, the enhancement of thermal conductivity and convective heat transfer coefficient is nearly 11% and 30%, respectively, compared to pure transformer oil. The cooling effect of ($Al_2O_3$+AlN)-oil nanofluids on the heating element and oil itself is confirmed by a natural convection test using a prototype transformer.
Monodisperse micron-sized polystyrene (PS) spheres were successfully obtained using a single stage soap-free emulsion method in aqueous media mixed with ethanol (co-solvent) containing NaCI as the electrolyte. The optimum conditions for preparing the monodisperse PS microspheres, using soap-free emulsion polymerization in a water/ethanol mixture with an electrolyte, were studied. The presence of the co-solvent and electrolyte controlled the particle dispersion stability during the polymerization. The microspheres formed using PS, with a weight-average diameter of $2.6{\mu}m$, coefficient of variation of 5.3% and zeta potential of -15.1 eV, were successfully obtained in the presence of 0.1 wt% NaCI, 10 wt% monomer, 0.1 wt% initiator and 95/5 (g/g) of a water/ethanol mixture reacted at $70^{\circ}C$ for 24 h.
In the present study, nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT) is developed for wave propagation of functionally graded (FG) nanoscale plate in the thermal environment by considering the porosity effect. $Si_3N_4$ as ceramic phase and SUS304 as metal phase are regarded to be constitutive material of FG nanoplate. The porosity effect is taken into account on the basis of the newly extended method which considers coupling influence between Young's modulus and mass density. The motion relation is derived by applying Hamilton's principle. NSGT is implemented in order to account for small size effect. Wave frequency and phase velocity are obtained by solving the problem via an analytical method. The effects of different parameters such as porosity coefficient, gradient index, wave number, scale factor and temperature change on phase velocity and wave frequency of FG porous nanoplate have been examined and been presented in a group of illustrations.

The bandwidth limitation of traveling-wave electroabsorption modulator(TW-EAM) is determined by the transit time, the velocity-mismatch between optical-wave and microwave, the impedance-matching, the dispersion and the microwave loss. In this paper, we introduce an hovel impulse response of TW-EAM considering transit time as well as velocity-mismatch. We analyze the effect of transit-time and velocity-mismatch at the same time, using the FDTD method. We investigate the modulation bandwidth by changing the depth of the intrinsic region. We suggest that the optimum depth of the intrinsic region is 0.2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ when the absorption coefficient($\alpha$) is 0.2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$-1.
This study examines changes in income inequality and income mobility associated with a transition to old age. In understanding the dynamics of income distribution over the later life course, it is important to explore the changes in income dispersion and the changes in relative income positions jointly. Data come from Korean Labor and Income Panel Study(KLIPS) 2nd, 7th, 12th wave. The results are as follows. First, a transition to old age is associated with an increase in income inequality. The Gini index of inequality increased steadily over the life course. Second, a transition to old age is associated with substantial income mobility. The Spearman's rank correlation coefficient between two periods was the lowest at the time of the transition. Increasing income dispersion and significant income mobility can be conceptualized as "income insecurity", since the older population are less likely to cope with income fluctuations. Third, in explaining such changes over time, changes in work life during old age and a subsequent decrease in earnings seem to be the most influential factor.

This paper compares the equalization algorithm of CR-MMA (Constellation Reduction-Multi Modulus Algorithm) and FC-MMA (Fast Convergence-Multi Modulus Algorithm) for the compensation of channel's distortion in transmitting the 2 dimensional 16-QAM signals. The CR-MMA adaptive equalizer use the error signal by reduce the nonconstant modulus signal to constant modulus signal in order to updates the tap coefficient, and the FC-MMA adptive equalizer use the error signal applying the modified dispersion constant considering the number of symbol level instead of signal point reduction. These two algorithm are known to its superior to the convergence characteristic among the MMA series equalizer. In this paper, the other equalization performance including the convergence characteristic was compared by computer simulation. As a result of computer simulation, FC-MMA has more good performance in the residual isi, maximum distortion and SER performance than CR-MMA, but not in convergence speed.

Characteristics of two-phase flow and heat transfer were numerically investigated in a submerged gas Injection system. Effects of both the gas flow rate and bubble size were investigated. In addition, heat transfer characteristic and effects of heat transfer were investigated when temperature of the injected gas was different from that of the liquid. The Eulerian approach was used for the formulation of both the continuous and the dispersed phases. The turbulence in the liquid phase was modeled by the use of the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. The interphase friction and heat transfer coefficient were calculated by means of correlations available in the literature. The turbulent dispersion of the phases was modeled by introducing a "dispersion Prandtl number". The plume region and the axial velocities are increased with increases in the gas flow rate and with decreases in the bubble diameter. The turbulent flow field grows stronger with the increases in the gas flow rate and with the decreases in the bubble diameter. In case that the heat transfer between the liquid and the gas is considered, the axial and the radial velocities are decreased in comparison with the case that there is no temperature difference between the liquid and the gas when the temperature of the injected gas is higher than the mean liquid temperature. The results in the present research are of interest in the design and the operation of a wide variety of material and chemical processes.
Cattle breeds have a striking effect on milk, including milk composition and technological characteristics. This study aims to compare milk composition, acidification activity, viscosity, milk dispersion system stability and casein molecular weight among three buffalo breeds in China. The technological characteristics of milk produced by three cattle breeds of river buffalo (Murrah), crossbreed 1st generation ($F_1$), crossbreed multiple generation ($F_H$, $H{\geq}3$) buffaloes were investigated. Cattle breeds showed evident effect on milk protein, fat and total solids content, but little effect on most of buffalo casein molecular weight. Milk fat, protein content and the viscosity of buffalo milk from river buffalo were lower than those of $F_1$ and $F_H$, so was the buffer capacity. The viscosity was negatively correlated to temperature and concentration. Results of stability coefficient showed that milk dispersion system had the best dynamic stability characteristics under pH 6.6 and 6 times dilution, while zeta potential of Murrah milk was slightly higher than that of hybrid offspring ($F_1$, $F_H$). SDS-PAGE results showed that buffalo ${\alpha}_s$-casein had a slightly faster mobility than standard ${\alpha}_s$-casein; while buffalo ${\beta}$-casein showed a slightly slower mobility than standard ${\beta}$-casein. There is no clear differences in molecular weight of ${\alpha}_s$-, ${\beta}$-, and ${\kappa}$-casein among Murrah, $F_1$ and $F_H$.
In order to investigate the dispersion patterns and speciations of Cu, Pb, Zn and Cd in soils, stream sediments and stream waters, geochemical studies of soil, stream sediment and stream water samples collected in the vicinity of the Shi-Heung Cu-Pb-Zn mine was carried out Cation exchange capacity measurement, size analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis and batch test were performed to select applicable soil for adsorption treatment The average content of Cu, Pb, Zn and Cd in soils collected from tailings and ore dressing plant is 1084 ppm, 2292 ppm, 3512 ppm and 29.2 ppm, respectively, and therefore, tailings and ore dressing plant site may be the major contamination sources in this study area. The mean content of Cu, Pb, Zn and Cd in stream sediments is extremely high up to 794 ppm, 1633 ppm, 2946 ppm and 25.2 ppm, respectively. Tailing particles and heavy metal ions are dispersed along the tributary system. Results from the sequential extraction analysis indicate; (1) most of Cu is bound to organic matters and sulphides, (2) fraction of Pb is mainly bound to Fe and Mn oxides. Most of Zn is largely bound to Fe and Mn oxides and residual fraction. Ion exchangeable fraction of Cd is relatively higher than those of Cu, Pb and Zn. Batch test on soils collected from the kaolinite and/or pyrophyllite mines and from the control areas was carried out to select an applicable soil samples for adsorption treatment The sample, S10, collected from the control area 2 (clay content 33.2%) shows the highest $K_d$ (distribution coefficient). Organic content in soils and several clay minerals shows relatively good correlation with $K_d$. It means that applicable soils for adsorption treatment of heavy metals show high organic and clay content.
