DEVELOPMENT OF WEB-DOWNLOADING SYSTEM ON WWW

  • Korea Aerospace Research Institute(KARl) has been receiving Terra and Aqua MODIS data at ground station of Daejeon since July 2002. MODIS data can cover whole East Asia including the Korean Peninsula, Japan and The East China each almost scene and is monitoring ocean, atmosphere and land. By this time, over two thousand scenes have been archived including Terra and Aqua in the storage system and they occupied about over 10TB of disk space. In this study, Web-Downloading system of MODIS data developed on WWW is including following main functions: spectral subset (250m, 500m, 1000m chnnels) Level 1B data of HDF format, result display, ftp download and statistic viewer etc. Users using this system can directly download MODIS data on WWW with a few input parameters. This system is available via the Internet URL after October 2005 on the following, 'http://webmodis.kari.re.kr/'

  • CD-ROM drive is improved in rotation speed up to 10,000 rpm. But Vibration and Noise are also increased simultaneously more and more. So many attempts are tried to reduce the unexpected effects. Most attempts are not enough to cover the increasement of Noise and Vibration. Merely availed tries are accumulated in many part and it makes the structure complicated. The Axiomatic approach could arrange the order of design and estimate the optimum design in good oder. In Axiomatic Approach, the composition is divided by Customer Requirement, Functional Requirement, Design Parameter and Design Matrix in large portion. This method also could show more effective way to design before making a prototype.

  • Recently, many methods are studied to analyze the noise of HDD and to reduce it. In this study, the simulation tool(SPATH) was developed to analyze a noise of HDD. The prediction technique of sound pressure level(SPL) of a given structural shape enables us to design a cover and a base with much less vibration and noise. In this paper, we measured the force of disk-spindle motor and predicted SPL from HDD by computational simulation. To get a SPL of HDD by computational simulation, modal analysis and forced vibration analysis were performed with ANSYS, and sound radiation was computed using SYSNOISE. The calculated results were compared with experimental results and a good agreement was obtained.

  • In near-field recording (NFR) optics using solid immersion lens (SIL), near-field air gap induces unwanted spherical aberration, defocus and astigmatism. This phenomenon can be explained with the apodization of phase and amplitude between each linearly polarized light. In this paper, we analyzed the effect of phase and amplitude apodization with the fundamental multiple beam interference theory, and we compared resultant diffracted patterns on the image plane for the Si-disk first surface media structure and cover-layer incident media structure.

Finite Element Simulation of Axisymmetric Sheet Hydroforming Processes (축대칭 박판 액압 성형 공정의 유한요소 시뮬레이션)

  • A finite element formulation lot the simulation of axisymmetric sheet hydroforming is proposed, and an implicit program is coded. In order to describe normal anisotropy of steel sheet, Hill's non-quadratic yield function (Hill, 1979) is employed. Frictional contacts among sheet surface, rigid tool surface, and flexible hydrostatic pressure are considered using mesh normal vectors based on finite element of the sheet. Applied hydraulic pressure is also considered as a function of forming rate and time and treated as an external loading. The complete set of the governing relations comprising equilibrium and interfacial equations is approximately linearized for Newton-Raphson algorithm. In order to verify the validity of the developed finite element formulation, the axisymmetric bulge test is simulated. Simulation results are compared with other FEM results and experimental measurements and showed good agreements. In axisymmetric hydroforming processes of a disk cover, formability changes are observed according to the hydraulic pressure curve changes.

  • A numerical model is employed for design of a spinner device to dry the 5-th generation LCD glass panel. The turbulent flow in a spinner is driven by rotation of a large disk and suction by the exhaust system connected to vacuum chamber, which is simulated by using the FLUENT package. Based on numerical simulation, the required capacity of exhaust system is assessed. The effects of the presence of cover on the flow characteristics are examined. A computational trouble shooting is attempted to resolve the problem of panel rising which occurred in real experiments.

  • Data on the Internet are usually represented and transfered as XML. the XML data is represented as a tree and therefore, object repositories are well-suited to store and query them due to their modeling power. XML queries are represented as regular path expressions and evaluated by traversing each object of the tree in object repositories. Several indexes are proposed to fast evaluate regular path expressions. However, in some cases they may not cover all possible paths because they require a great amount of disk space. In order to efficiently evaluate the queries in such cases, we propose an optimized traversing which combines the signature method and block traversing. The signature approach shrink the search space by using the signature information attached to each object, which hints the existence of a certain label in the sub-tree. The block traversing reduces disk I/O by early evaluating the reachable objects in a page. We conducted diverse experiments to show that the hybrid approach achieves a better performance than the other naive ones.

Observations of the Aurora by Visible All-Sky Camera at Jang Bogo Station, Antarctica

  • The auroral observation has been started at Jang Bogo Station (JBS), Antarctica by using a visible All-sky camera (v-ASC) in 2018 to routinely monitor the aurora in association with the simultaneous observations of the ionosphere, thermosphere and magnetosphere at the station. In this article, the auroral observations are introduced with the analysis procedure to recognize the aurora from the v-ASC image data and to compute the auroral occurrences and the initial results on their spatial and temporal distributions are presented. The auroral occurrences are mostly confined to the northern horizon in the evening sector and extend to the zenith from the northwest to cover almost the entire sky disk over JBS at around 08 MLT (magnetic local time; 03 LT) and then retract to the northeast in the morning sector. At near the magnetic local noon, the occurrences are horizontally distributed in the northern sky disk, which shows the auroral occurrences in the cusp region. The results of the auroral occurrences indicate that JBS is located most of the time in the polar cap near the poleward boundary of the auroral oval in the nightside and approaches closer to the oval in the morning sector. At around 08 MLT (03 LT), JBS is located within the auroral oval and then moves away from it, finally being located in the cusp region at the magnetic local noon, which indicates that the location of JBS turns out to be ideal to investigate the variabilities of the poleward boundary of the auroral oval from long-term observations of the auroral occurrences. The future plan for the ground auroral observations near JBS is presented.

EFFECT OF RESIN SEALANTS ON THE REDUCTION OF MICROLEAKAGE IN COMPOSITE RESTORATIONS (복합레진 수복물의 미세누출 감소를 위한 레진 전색제의 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the ability of three resin surface sealants to prevent microleakage in Class V composite resin restorations. Forty Class V cavities with the occlusal margin in enamel and gingival margin in dentin were prepared on the buccal surfaces of sound extracted molars, and restored with composite resin. Restorations were randomly assigned into one of four equal groups (n = 10): a control group, without resin sealing, and three experimental groups in which margins were sealed with Fortify Plus, Biscover and Permaseal, respectively. Specimens were thermocycled, immersed in a 2% methylene blue solution for 4 hours, sectioned longitudinally, and observed the leakage at the occlusal and gingival margins. The result was analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann-Whitney test and Wilcoxon signed rank test. In conclusion, the ability to reduce microleakage at occlusal margins was similar in all of three sealants. However at gingival margin, it depended on the type of used resin surface sealant. At gingival margin. control and Fortify Plus group showed statistically higher microleakage than PermaSeal group. and Fortify Plus group also showed higher microleakage than BisCover group (p < 0.05).

Speech Coarticulation Database of Korean and English ($\cdot$ 영 동시조음 데이터베이스의 구축)

  • We present the first speech coarticulation database of Korean, English and Konglish/sup 3)/ named "SORIDA"/sup 4)/, which is designed to cover the maximum number of representations of coarticulation in these languages [1]. SORIDA features a compact database which is designed to contain a maximum number of triphones in a minimum number of prompts. SORIDA contains all consonantal triphones and vowel allophones in 682 Korean prompts of word length and in 717 English prompt words, spoken five times by speakers of balanced genders, dialects and ages. Korean prompts are synthesized lexicons which maximize their coarticulation variation disregarding any stress phenomena, while English prompts are natural words that fully reflect their stress effects with respect to the coarticulation variation. The prompts are designed differently because English phonology has stress while Korean does not. An intermediate language, Konglish has also been modeled by two Korean speakers reading 717 English prompt words. Recording was done in a controlled laboratory environment with an AKG Model C-100 microphone and a Fostex D-5 digital-audio-tape (DAT) recorder. The total recording time lasted four hours. SORIDA CD-ROM is available in one disk of 22.05 kHz sampling rate with a 16 bit sample size. SORIDA digital audio-tapes are available in four 124-minute-tapes of 48 kHz sampling rate. SORIDA′s list of phonetically-rich-words is also available in English and Korean.
