Subject-Object Asymmetries of Morphological Case Realization

  • Case markers in Korean are omissible in colloquial speech. Previous discourse studies of Caseless bare NPs in Korean show that the information structure of zero Nominative not only differs from that of overt Nominative but it also differs from that of zero Accusative in many respects. This paper aims to provide a basis for these semantic/pragmatic properties of Caseless NPs through the syntactic difference between bare subjects and bare objects: namely, the former are left-dislocated NPs, whereas the latter form complex predicates with the subcategorizing verbs. Our analysis will account for the facts that (i) the distribution of bare subject NPs are more restricted than that of bare object NPs; (ii) bare subject NPs must be specific or topical; (iii) Acc-marked NPs in canonical position tend to be focalized.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose a model built on the theoretical foundation of ecological sensitivity applicable to group and coaching process for organization members in industry management environment. For this, I have looked into theoretical foundation basis-foundation required for the ecological sensitivity process based on ecological discourse, based on which I have proposed a process model. The ecological basis-foundation with regards to ecological sensitivity dealt with in this paper includes 1)Crisis awareness, 2)Acquisition of ecological unconsciousness, 3)Fostering green imagination and 4)Setting targets.

The Influence of Machine Translators on the English Writing of Pre-service English Teachers

  • This study investigated how pre-service English teachers perceive the effects of machine teaching on their English writing competence. 35 Korean students who are majoring in English education participated in this study. The participants used machine translators for one of the required courses related to English composition. A survey and focus group interview were conducted at the end of the course. They were asked to answer to what degree they perceive the effects of machine translators on their writing in terms of lexical, sentential, and discourse levels. Furthermore, their perspectives on the effects of machine translation on English teaching including limitations of machine translators, were interviewed in more detail. The results show that the participants perceive machine translators quite positively in terms of improving their writing competence, but they also point out some critical limitations of machine translators. These findings have some pedagogical implications for English writing course instructors, English teacher educators, and program developers.

Remediated Food in Media Revised model of Lévi-Strauss' Culinary Triangle

  • This study suggests a revised model of Lévi-Strauss' culinary triangle, which is frequently cited in food-related articles. To scrutinize how the media shares content about food and to remediate food discourse, this study conducted a focus group interview and targeted food program viewers and classified discoursal elements or nodes by Nvivo qualitative tools. In the process of classification, it found what seems to be hard to explain in the current food culture with Lévi-Strauss' culinary triangle, even if it still depicts appropriately, in the post-modern era implied complexity. Then, it arranged obtained discoursal nodes and analyzed the relationship between them. Interestingly, food in media plays as an important role beyond food itself, such as it can trigger memories, create social divides, play a role in economic invigoration, etc. Consequently, this paper suggests the revised culinary triangle model expanded from Lévi-Strauss' in which traces the molding process of food remediation with discoursal nodes in stages.

패션 일러스트레이션에 표현된 스테레오타입 여성성 (Stereotype Femininity Expressed in Fashion Illustration)

  • This study analyzes the stereotyped femininity with a focus on body codes, which has been continuously expressed in fashion illustrations from the late $19^{th}$ century to the year 2010, and examines the changes in its meaning. Stereotyped femininity was reorganized by the changes in female sex role effected by social changes, as well as by the body discourse and feminism in the late $20^{th}$ century, These socio-cultural backgrounds led to the change in the meaning of stereotyped women expressed in fashion illustrations. The stereotyped women in fashion illustrations are characterized by gender-oriented body, and the typical image of women was reproduced with the marks of poses and looks that feature passiveness and subordination. Then, the gender-oriented body since 1990's shifted to active meaning that positively revealed sexual desire. The space positioned by women is also the symbol of gender. In line with changes over time, the backgrounds in fashion illustrations have changed from private space such as home and nature to public space such as city, which reflects diversification and expansion of space for women. This study has identified the changes in meaning, based on the analysis of the characteristics of stereotyped women expressed in fashion illustrations. Above all, women who were objectified as a subject by dominant discourse have established the concept of active body as an entity. In addition, the symbol of typical femininity is "slim" and "beauty", which reflects the change from the emphasis on childbirth-related femininity to self-control and conquer. On the other hand, the typical features expressed through body have reproduced dichotomous structure, but the emergence of body and background deviated from gender has reorganized the symbolic order of gender.

도로시 워즈워드의 후기 대화시 연구 (A Study of Dorothy Wordsworth's Later Conversation Poetry)

  • This paper aims at investigating Dorothy Wordsworth's later conversation poetry, which has not been the focus of critical discussions on her literary works. While many critics have been emphasizing Dorothy Wordsworth's journals and the tendency of self-effacement in her prose, this paper argues that her later poetry often reveals acute self-consciousness about the circumstances that condition this self-annihilation and searches for a creative way to endorse her own identity. In "Lines Intended for My Niece's Album," she expresses anxiety and uncertainty about the inclusion of her poetic piece in Dora Wordsworth's album, which contains poems by prominent male writers of the contemporary period. "Irregular Verses" presents Dorothy Wordsworth's self-conscious narrative of her girlhood and shows how her own ambition to become a "Poet" has been stifled by external circumstances, including the ideology that instills the idea of proper womanhood into aspiring girls. While these poems examine contemporary gender discourse and the frustrated poethood resulting from it, other poems activate conversations with William Wordsworth's poems and thereby provide a revisionary re-writing of her brother's texts. For example, in "Lines Addressed to Joanna H." Dorothy Wordsworth becomes "a woman addressed who herself addresses others." Her scrupulous approach to her own addressee refuses to subordinate the other to the self's will, and through this revision of "Tintern Abbey," Dorothy Wordsworth vicariously liberates her own self confined in her brother's poems. "Thoughts on My Sick-Bed," which echoes "Tintern Abbey" through borrowed phrases and direct address to William Wordsworth, foregrounds her own poetic identity in the form of the first-person pronoun "I." Dorothy Wordsworth's continual illness during this period of her life paradoxically allows her the time for personal reflection formerly denied to her in her busy life constantly occupied by physical and spiritual labor for others. Instead of earning satisfaction from the subsumption of her creative energy under William Wordsworth's poetical endeavor, Dorothy Wordsworth finally starts to affirm her own poetic identity that can properly express her inner vision and artistic talent. Although this final affirmation remains largely incomplete due to her later mental collapse bordering on madness, it powerfully conveys the hidden literary aspiration of the formerly frustrated female poet.

암호화폐 온라인 커뮤니티와 유튜브의 역할 및 담론분석 연구 : FGI 인터뷰를 중심으로 (Roles and Discourse of Cryptocurrency's Online Community and YouTube : Using Focus Group Interviews)

  • 본 연구는 FGI 인터뷰를 중심으로 암호화폐 관련 온라인 커뮤니티와 미디어(레거시 미디어와 유튜브)의 역할과 담론을 분석하고, 이를 바탕으로 암호화폐 정책 방향을 제언했다. 문헌 연구를 통해 투자자 특성과 투자 환경 요인으로서의 커뮤니티와 유튜브의 역할을 분석했다. 암호화폐 전문투자자와 커뮤니티 활동가 인터뷰를 통해 커뮤니티 이용 목적과 역할을 파악했고, 구독자 수 상위 5개의 암호화폐 관련 유튜브 채널을 분석하여 주요 논의 주제를 고찰했다. 연구 결과, 암호화폐 투자는 20~30대가 주도했으며, 레거시 미디어 이용보다 뉴미디어의 정보를 선호하고 신뢰했다. 온라인 커뮤니티는 정서적 동질감과 공감 역할을 하였고, 유튜브는 정보제공의 기능을 주로 수행했다. 담론 분석과 인터뷰 결과, 암호화폐 정책의 일관성과 투자자 보호를 위한 법적 안정성 마련이 필요했다. 본 연구는 문헌 연구, 인터뷰, 커뮤니티/유튜브 내용 분석 등 다양한 연구 방법을 활용해, 뉴미디어의 정보 제공과 정서 공감 역할을 분석했고, 나아가 디지털 뉴딜 블록체인 기술 장려와 금융산업 공정성 저해 방지를 위한 규제 방향성을 제안했다는 점에 의의가 있다.

영어교육 열풍에 관한 시사다큐멘터리의 서사분석: '조기 영어교육 열풍, 신음하는 아이들' 방송을 중심으로 (Narrative Analysis of a TV Documentary on Early Childhood English Education Fever: Focus on the Coverage of )

  • 본 연구의 목적은 2013년에 방영된 '조기영어교육 열풍, 신음하는 아이들' 시사다큐멘터리의 서사구조를 Chatman(2003)의 모형으로 분석하는 것이다. 통합체 분석을 위해 사건의 전개에 초점을 맞추어 이야기의 내용 흐름을 탐색하고, 계열체 분석을 통해서는 텍스트에 잠재되어 있는 이항대립 구조를 분석했다. 해당 방송은 '균형-혼란-재균형'의 서사 구조를 바탕으로, 영어 몰입교육 금지에 따른 혼란의 상황이 영어 사교육 시장을 확장시켰으며, 학생들의 영어학습이 점점 앞당겨지는 상황이 발생했고, 그로 인해 새로운 해결책을 모색할 수밖에 없다는 내용으로 전개시켰다. 그러나 조기 영어교육의 열풍을 유발했다는 정부의 목소리는 제대로 등장하지 않고, 피해자로 위치화된 학생들의 모습도 구체적으로 묘사되어 있지 않은채, 학부모, 사립초등학교 관계자, 영어학원 관계자들이 조기 영어교육의 열풍과 영어 몰입교육의 행위를 유발하는 핵심 주체로 등장하고 있다. 또한 조기 영어교육 열풍을 잠재울 해결안으로 정서적 단면, 교수 방법적 차이 등을 다루면서 보다 중층적인 진단과 대안을 모색하지 못했다.

  • 우리 앞에는 상상할 수 없이 많은 가능성이 놓여있다. 이로 인해, 미래예측이 어렵지만 예측 자체가 무의미한것은 아니다. 다양한 가능성들을 예측함으로써 우발상황에 대처할 수 있는 유연성을 가질 수 있기 때문이다. 본 연구는 한국의 인구 분야에 대한 극단적 사건(X-events)을 탐색하기 위해 진행되었다. 이를 위해, 정부 및 공공 부문의 비상계획관 32명을 대상으로 심층 인터뷰를 실시했고, 이를 토대로 인구 감소, 고령화 등의 인구 문제가 경제, 국방등의 다양한 분야에 영향을 미칠 수 있다는 유의미한 연구결과를 도출했다. 본 연구를 계기로 우리 사회에 일어날 수 있는 극단적 사건에 대한 논의와 토의가 더욱 활성화되길 기대한다.

가정어린이집 보육교사들의 권리실제에 관한 질적 연구 (A Study on the Rights Practice of Childcare Teachers in Home Daycare Centers)

  • Objective: The present study examined how childcare teachers at home daycare centers perceive their rights as teachers and what kind of rights situations pertain to them at their respective daycare centers. Methods: Adopting a qualitative research method approach, this study conducted focus group interviews to collect empirical data. The participants were childcare teachers and directors at home daycare centers, which were shown to have relatively poor work environments compared to other types of daycare centers Results: The findings revealed that the participants at home daycare centers perceived their rights as childcare teachers to be extremely vulnerable. It was shown that their rights could not be protected in various frameworks involving mutual relations between teachers and directors, the Infant Care Act and childcare policy, and social perceptions that fail to recognize them as professionals. Conclusion: The fingdings from the present study contribute to our understanding of the rights situation faced by childcare teachers at home daycare centers and to the social discourse on finding ways to realize the teachers' full rights as childcare professionals.
