The Prevention of Melting Contact in Accordance Relay of Controller for Turn on/off High Pressure Sodium Vapor Lamp (고압 나트륨램프의 점등과 소등을 위한 제어기의 릴레이 접점의 융착 방지)

  • For turn on high pressure sodium vapor lamp, Starting Voltage is very important factor. This starting voltage supply to high pressure sodium vapor lamp as electric discharge lamp, Electric field is producted in electric discharge tube, So accelerative electron collide against vapor atom and second electron is generated, And rapidly the current flow to electric discharge tube. This starting voltage is high voltage and source for melting contact that relay is according as turn on/off high pressure sodium vapor lamp. Consequently, This paper propose that the prevention of melting contact in accordance relay of controller for turn on/off high pressure sodium vapor lamp.

  • To investigate degradation procedure and life time of the oxidized PE and the unoxidized PE, alternative voltage is applied to the CIGRE Method-II (CM-II) electrode system, which is loaded artificial void, and measures the distribution of partial discharging generation. From the results, the samples etched by oxidation had wide degradation area of dielectric strength. Furthermore, discharge starting voltage was shifted to low voltage, the discharge generation frequency was high and consequently, the quantity of mean charge becomes small. Also, life time of the oxdized sample is shortened according as the oxidation time is longer.

  • It is necessary for starting voltage to him on high pressure discharge lamp. This starting voltage supply to high pressure sodium vapor lamp as electric discharge lamp, Electric field is producted in Electric discharge tube, So accelerative electron collide against vapour atom and second electron is generated, And rapidly the current flow to Electric discharge tube. This paper showed that the life cycle and exchanges time for all electric discharge lamp was different according to each manufactures, This paper is proposed the evaluating algorithm of exchanges time for high pressure sodium vapor lamp, used LabVIEW software package.

  • Heat cycle aging of insulating materials in large generator stator winding has been investigated using both on-line and off-line test methods. On this study, principally, off-line test against actual generator in service was carried out to acquire information about polarization index(PI) and dissipation factor, dissipation factor tip-up, maximum partial discharge for the purpose of remnant breakdown voltage and life assessment. It was found from the tests that both dissipation factor and maximum partial discharge decreased with the increase of operating hours and starting numbers. It was found from off-line tests that the remnant breakdown voltage had a strong relationship with both dissipation factor and maximum partial discharge the remnant breakdown voltage as a results of both operating hours and starting number and the nondestructive tests were proposed as parameters which can predict the remnant lifetime of insulating materials in large generator stator windings.   • The power system and control system constantly reveals surge voltage such as switching surge of lighting devices and power conversion devices, operating and stops surge of rotating devices, charge & discharge surge, opening & closing surge of circuit breakers and the like. Such a surge voltages can cause damage or malfunction of the element such as CPU, Memory, semiconductor etc. In the industry, in order to protect the system from the surge voltage, a surge protector with low discharge starting voltage, fast response time, and low capacitance is required, and technical development research for that is ongoing. In this paper, in order to solve the problem of the existing GDT discharge tube not discharging from the transient voltage which is higher than the commercial voltage and lower than the discharge voltage of the discharge element, we have developed a discharge element having the control electrode & control circuit. The discharge element having the control electrode and the control circuit can control the discharge voltage according to the needs of the consumer and can satisfy the requirement of the discharge element and the technology of the surge protector downsizing technology and the surge protection technology. It is judged to be effective for development.

  • Characteristics of corona discharge of the different types of the plasma reactors which are cone-hole and cone-plate is investigated experimentally. The discharge starts at lower voltage for the cathode corona than the anode corona and spark occurs at higher voltage for the cathode corona. And the cathode corona makes more stable discharge than the anode corona. The effect of the base gas in corona discharge for different O$_2$/N$_2$ concentrations is related with the gas molecular weight. The discharge for the smaller molecular weight gas occurs easier than for the high molecular weight gas. The discharge current decreases with the increase of oxygen concentration and it increases more sharply for anode corona than for cathode corona as discharge voltage increases after corona onset voltage. NO-NO$_2$ conversion increases with the energy density of corona discharge and the addition of O$_2$ in a base N$_2$ gas.

  • This paper presents a stable lighting method for HID lamp for ship from initial discharging current limit with discharging voltage control. The output voltage of the proposed control scheme is boosted for ignition, and the charging voltage is decreased by the resistor discharging. The proposed controller fires the initial discharge at the designed discharging voltage to limit the discharge current. After the discharging, constant current controller is used for brightness in steady state. The proposed control scheme can limit the initial discharge current using the starting point control without a complex voltage controller. so it can improve the life-time of HID lamp and get a stable discharge from restricted the initial discharge current. In order to improve the protection of the system, a simple instantaneous error detecting circuit for open state and short state of HID lamp is used. The proposed error detecting of HID lamp can protect the power system of lamp control. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is verified from the experiments of practical 2.5[kW] HID search light for ship.

  • Discharge characteristics research for high voltage and large current electric machinery design, the development of ozonizer with high yield and efficiency for environment improvement, generation of plasma & laser and EMI EMC are research fields of Enersy & Environment Electromagnetic Laboratory(EEEL) in the school of electrical & electronic engineering of Yeungnam University. On this paper, we would like to introduce the discharge and ozone generation characteristics of ozonizers designed and manufactured by EEEL. After starting research for fluid gas discharge characteristics early in the 1980's, high voltage nozzle(HVN) type ozonizer, neon lamp(Nelamp) type ozonizer, ozone lamp(Olamp) type ozonizer and multi-discharge type ozonizer(MDO) have been investigated since 1990.

  • A silent type ozone generator using water surface electrode was proposed. And it was investigated experimentally that a variation of water conductivity affected to water surface discharge. Important factors affecting to water surface discharge are ions in discharge space and ions and polarized molecules in water and so on. In this study, It was intended to change the characteristics of discharge by controlling the number of ions in water. The number of ions in water could be controlled by changing the water conductivity. Water conductivity was controlled by quantity of inserted NaCl to distilled water. At this time, current-voltage characteristics and characteristics of ozone generation quantity were investigated in each case. As a result, when NaCl was inserted in distilled water, more stable discharge was generated. As the quantity of NaCl was increased, discharge starting voltage could be lowered.

  • A power supply for magnetic-stimulation devices was designed via a control algorithm that involved a start current application based on a resonant converter. In this study, a new power supply for magnetic-stimulation devices was designed by controlling the pulse repetition frequency and pulse width. The power density could be controlled using the start-current-compensation and ZCS (zero-current switching) resonant converter. The results revealed a high-repetition-frequency, high-power magnetic-stimulation device. It was found that the stimulation coil current pulse width and that pulse repetition frequency could be controlled within the range of 200-450 ${\mu}S$ and 200-900 pps, respectively. The magnetic-stimulation device in this study consisted of a stimulation coil device and a power supply system. The maximum power of the stimulation coil from one discharge was 130 W, which was increased to 260 W using an additional reciprocating discharge. The output voltage was kept stable in a sinusoidal waveform regardless of the load fluctuations by forming voltage and current control using a deadbeat controller without increasing the current rating at the starting time. This paper describes this magnetic-stimulation device to which the start current was applied.
