  • This paper presents an EMG-based wireless and wearable computer interface. The wearable device contains 4 channel EMG sensors and is able to acquire EMG signals using signal processing. Obtained signals are transmitted to a host computer through wireless communication. EMG signals induced by the volitional movements are acquired from four sites in the lower limb to extract a user's intention and six classes of wrist movements are discriminated by employing an artificial neural network (ANN). This interface could provide an aid to the limb disabled to directly access to computers and network environments without conventional computer interface such as a keyboard and a mouse.

  • There are 2,100,000 disabled peoples in korea. 62% of them didn't graduate from high school. Because their low scholarship has been negative influence on economic life, We have to prepare a measure for raising their scholarship. Therefore, in this paper I propose a measure that the scholarship of the disable will be raise. That is to establish a Air & Correpondence High School at special school. Also I propose a measure that the disable have access to internet easier than now. That is to make a technology standard and a content for the disable.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest institutional reformation of public office facilities by analysis the status of services on welfare for the aged and disabled. For this study, we have researched and analyzed on two different aspects. The aspects are space composition of public office facilities, welfare systems and service support within region. And we can get the following important points as conclusion; (1) We need to consider on not only access for public office facilities site but also the connection on business such as block plan on zone and connection between quarters. Architectural plan has to be considered. (2) Most of the public office facilities use human service resources as a supporting system for shortage of convenient facilities. Variety of welfare services are required. (3) We need to secure various programs and space for local peculiarities and social demand.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the factors associated with unmet dental needs among adults with activity limitations. Methods: Data were obtained from the seventh Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). The final sample consisted of 945 adults aged 20 years or older with limited activity. Logistic regression analysis was used to examine the influence of predisposing, enabling, and need factors on unmet dental needs. Results: The proportion of adults with unmet dental needs during the last year was 52.2% in the middle-aged group and 45.5% in the older adult group. Higher household income was associated with fewer unmet dental needs in both groups. In the older adult group, married people were less likely to have unmet dental needs. In the middle-aged group, adults who perceived their oral health as poor were more likely to have unmet dental needs. Conclusions: All three factors (predisposing, enabling, and need) were found to be associated with unmet dental needs among adults with activity limitations. Special efforts should be made to improve access to dental care services for middle-aged adults with activity limitations.

  • Due to the recent Law on facilities Improvement in public performance facilities, equal access to the need of cultural satisfaction and the standards of facilities for people with disabilities are to be assessed. The aim of this study was to determine how to improve the facilities for disabled individuals and provide complementary guidelines for amenities designed for people with disabilities based on a comparative analysis of the disability codes in Korea, Japan, USA, Australia and Canada as well as a field observation. The results suggest the need for improved guidelines in terms of accessibility and accessible seating, which are summarized as follows: (1) The facility standards need to be complemented and clarified in terms of a detailed description, (2) regarding facilities for accessible seating, fall prevention handrails should be lowered to a height within the range of vision of the individual (3) The purpose and user's manual for theater and cultural facilities as well as detailed dimensional requirements need to be restated, and (4) an improvement in accessible seating in theaters and cultural facilities is needed. The purpose of the this study is to show an arrangement of a fundamental judgement and a ground data which can be complemented in planning a public performance facilities for the people with disabilities.

  • Due to the increased use of mobile devices, there is a lot of discussion on mobile accessibility. Mobile accessibility means that everyone, who includes the disabled, the elderly people, can easily use the functions of mobile devices. In this paper, we presented and implemented a mobile interface using a speech I/O APIs to improve the accessibility. The proposed interfaces are implemented on Android platforms and they used speech recognition and text-to-speech APIs supported as built-in services. In addition, to facilitate the internet access for visually impaired or blind people, we also implemented the web browsing application (web reader).

  • Voice Command systems are important means of ensuring accessibility to digital devices for use in situations where both hands are not free or for people with disabilities. Interests in services using speech recognition technology have been increasing. In this study, we developed a mobile writing application using voice recognition and voice command technology which helps people create and edit documents easily. This application is characterized by the minimization of the touch on the screen and the writing of memo by voice. We have systematically designed a mode to distinguish voice writing and voice command so that the writing and execution system can be used simultaneously in one voice interface. It provides a shortcut function that can control the cursor by voice, which makes document editing as convenient as possible. This allows people to conveniently access writing applications by voice under both physical and environmental constraints.

  • Domestic and international laws and regulations on design of residential environment are adopted, revised and supplemented to solve the problems such as access, safety and privacy in the residential space of the elderly and the disabled. This study is an comparative analysis of Korea and Japan, USA, UK laws and regulations on environment design by literature review. The purpose of this study is to present the basic materials required for development of the standard that would supports the undiscriminatory physical environment for the socially weak who are experiencing aging and disability, due to the restricted scope of entrance, bathroom and kitchen spaces with high frequency of safety accident. The results of this study are as follows. (1) Design guidelines on residential environment were compared under five residential factors for aging in place: safety, accessibility, amenity, usability and privacy. (2) The guidelines of each country applied to the entrance, bathroom and kitchen space were compared. (3) The results showed present guidelines should be completed with 'safety', 'accessibility', 'amenity', 'usability' and 'privacy' for Aging in place.

  • In Korea, the Basic Act is guaranteed through the "Act on the Guarantee of Convenience Promotion for Disabled Persons, the Elderly, Pregnant Women, etc." and various ordinances. In order to improve this situation, it is necessary to introduce Universal Design (UD). By applying this where it is most needed, access to cultural properties is enhanced to promote multiple rights. Currently, the region with the largest population of the elderly in Korea is Gyeonggi-do, but the region with the highest proportion of the elderly is Jeolla-do. However, the Jeolla-do area is lagging behind in the revision of UD regulations or guidelines. Taking this into consideration and introducing it to each facility will also help to achieve balanced national development. In order to establish and apply effective universal design-related policies, it is necessary to diagnose the aspects of social change that affect our lives. In this study, the need for UD should be expanded as a basis for expanding social activities of socially disadvantaged people in Jeollabuk-do. Its goal is to diagnose the current status of UD and to suggest directions for application of improvements.

  • This study aimed to propose application directions for South Korea's digital health policy by conducting a literature review, data analysis, and examining foreign cases. The objective was to enhance the healthcare rights of individuals with disabilities, considering the potential expansion of the digital health policy. The findings indicate that digital health holds significant promise in improving mobility and accessibility for the healthcare rights of disabled individuals in Korea. However, addressing the digital gap is crucial for achieving smooth utilization. To ensure seamless use of the digital health system, it is imperative to attain digital inclusion, encompassing digital technology, connectivity, and accessibility. Additionally, establishing governance for digital health and expanding infrastructure for affordable access to high-quality internet are essential. Despite the study's limitations arising from relying on literature research, it is anticipated that the findings can serve as foundational data for preemptive responses and provide insights into the direction of the government's digital health policy to enhance the healthcare rights of individuals with disabilities.
