가상현실 기반 작업치료프로그램이 학령기 지적장애 아동의 신체기능 및 학습능력에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Virtual Reality-Based Occupational Therapy Program on the Physical Function and Learning Capacity of School-Age Intellectual Disability Children)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a virtual reality-based occupational therapy program on the physical function and learning ability of intellectually disabled school-aged children. Methods : In this study, 20 intellectually disabled children of school age were randomly and evenly divided into experimental and control groups with children in the experimental group receiving a virtual reality-based occupational therapy intervention. The study adopted a pretest-posttest design. The intervention was conducted for a total of 12 sessions for six weeks, twice a week, and 50 minutes per session. As measurement tools, BOT-2 and grooved pegboard tests were used to compare physical function before and after the intervention program, and K-ABC was used to check changes in learning ability. Results : The occupational therapy program produced a significant improvement in both physical function and learning ability of the experimental group. A significant difference was observed between the experimental and control groups. Conclusion : This study confirmed the value and usefulness of virtual reality-based occupational therapy as a tool for enhancing the physical function and learning ability of intellectually disabled school-aged children. Based on the results, a variety of future studies are encouraged that would further test the effects of the occupational therapy program used here.

충남장애인구강진료센터에서 시행된 외래전신마취와 치과치료에 대한 조사연구 (A Survey of the Outpatient General Anesthesia and Dental Treatment in Chungnam Dental Clinic for the Disabled)

  • Background: Dental treatment under outpatient general anesthesia is an option for disabled person, children and dentally disabled person who have the difficulty of cooperating voluntary with dental care. The aim of this study was to access the patients who had dental management under general anesthesia at Chungnam dental clinic for the disabled. Methods: This survey is consisted of 114 severely disabled and dentally disabled person who undergone dental treatment under general anesthesia from January to June 2011. Data were collected by individual dental and anesthesia records. Results: Of the 114 patients studies, the 45 patients was the dentally disabled and the 69 patients was the severely disabled. Rate of dental treatment among male patients was higher than among female patients. The dentally disabled was an similar age distribution. In the severly disabled, above 13-year-old was higher than below 12-year-old. The most popular induction method of general anesthesia was sevoflurane inhalation after induced sedative effect of nitrous oxide inhalation. The severly disabled who had definitely negative behavior was applied inhalation of high concentration sevoflurane. Conclusions: Chungnam Dental clinic for the disabled provide dental management for the disabled and the dentally disabled.

통합놀이터 가이드라인의 특성 (Characteristics of Inclusive Playground Guidelines)

  • 통합놀이터는 장애인 전용 놀이터가 아닌 장애아동과 비장애아동 모두가 함께 놀 수 있는 놀이터이며, 1960년대 미국에서 장애인들의 시민권이 추구되면서 이루어진 놀이터를 보는 사회적 인식 변화로 시작되었다. 이후 통합놀이터는 여러 나라에서 발전되었으며, 실천방식은 가이드라인의 형태로 정리되었다. 국내에서도 통합놀이터를 향한 사회적 관심이 높아지고 있으나, 해외 사례나 가이드라인을 단편적으로 적용하는 데 그치고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 여러 나라의 통합놀이터 디자인 가이드라인의 유형을 분류하고, 각각의 가이드라인에서 제시하는 통합놀이터의 개념, 디자인 원칙 및 세부 지침을 분석하여 국내 통합놀이터 디자인 가이드라인 작성을 위한 기초적 틀을 제공하려 한다. 디자인 가이드라인의 목적은 구체적 설계 지침, 학문적 연구와 산업체 제품 연계, 추구 가치의 사회적 확산과 실현, 디자인 방법을 통한 추구 가치를 확장 등으로 나타났다. 목적에 따라 내용의 구성은 차이를 보이고 있다. 공통적인 추구 가치는 장애인만을 위한 놀이터가 아닌 모두를 위한 놀이터로 몇몇 가이드라인에서는 이를 구현하는 방식으로 난이도를 언급하고 있다. 디자인 원칙을 살펴보았을 때 접근성 향상은 공통적이나 경우에 따라 안정성, 독립성, 편의성, 놀이성 같은 원칙을 더하고 있다. 모든 가이드라인이 디자인 지침을 제공하지 않으며, 디자인 지침을 제공하고 있더라도 구체성의 정도와 방식에는 차이가 있다. 디자인 지침은 장애아동 놀이 지원과 통합놀이의 유도로 크게 구분할 수 있고, 장애아동 놀이지원은 '공간 및 시설물의 치수 및 재질 확보', '보조장치 추가', '새로운 시설물 디자인' 세 단계로 구분하여 정리할 수 있다. 통합놀이 유도를 위한 디자인 지침은 '다양한 난이도와 교차 공간 조성', '협력하며 놀기의 조건 제공', '보호자의 효율적 지원을 위한 조건 제공'으로 요약된다. 본 연구에서는 물리적 환경에 집중하였으나, 사회적으로는 아동의 놀 권리 보장이 이루어져야 하고 장애인을 향한 사회적 태도는 배제에서 통합으로 전환되어야 한다. 또한 통합 놀이 프로그램의 개발 및 관련 종사자 양성, 놀이 환경의 유지 및 관리 등 다양한 측면이 고려되어야 한다. 이에 통합놀이터 조성 이후의 운영과 관리를 위한 인적, 사회적 인프라 구축, 제도 정비를 다루는 후속 연구가 필요하다.

장애아 보육시설의 물리적 환경에 대한 설문조사연구 (Questionnaire Survey on the Physical Environment of Child Care Centers for Children with Disability)

Typically developing children serve as role models from which children with disabilities learn age-appropriated communications and social behavior. Therefore the children with disability can actively participate in well-designed child care settings. But unfortunately in Seoul, Korea, only 2% of children with disability are taken care of in child care centers. And even the disabled children at the child care centers are mostly mentally or emotionally disabled because the building, programs and services of the centers are restrictive to the children with severe physical disabilities. This study reviewed Korean domestic physical environment of child care centers for children with disabilities. Questionnaire survey was conducted to 103 centers located in Seoul by mail. Our survey revealed that they need more areas for nursing room and special rooms and the accessibility to buildings has to be improved. Also, there are no elevators in all buildings surveyed. Accessibility to toilet is noted as significant problem, especially wet floors in toilets. In a nursing room, a space for psychological rest and special education is needed for children with mental disability. Technical specifications on how to make buildings and facilities accessible for the children with disability should be developed. The goal of this study is to provide basic information to develop domestic design guidelines to ensure that the child care centers are safe, convenient, and usable for everyone possible.

장애아 보육시설의 물리적 환경에 대한 법적기준 및 문헌 연구 - 한국, 미국, 호주를 중심으로 - (A Study on the Legal Regulations and Design Guidelines on Child Care Centers for Children with Disability - A Comparison with Korea, U.S.A. and Australia -)

  • A study on child care centers has been developed with a focus on normal children. Also the child care centers which take care of children with disability are rare. In Seoul, Korea, only 2% of children with disability are taken care of in childcare centers. And even the disabled children at the child care centers are mostly mentally or emotionally disabled because the building, programs and services of the centers are restrictive to the children with severe physical disabilities. In Korea, it is not yet an obligation for child care centers to adopt Disability Accessibility Guidelines to make facilities accessible by the disabled. Also, Korea does not have specific design guidelines or legal standards. This study aims to review the domestic and foreign legal standards and design guidelines which are applicable to child care centers for children with disability through a reference review. Korean legal standards, and US's ABA and ADAAG were analyzed. Two representative references such as "Creating Inclusive Child Care Facilities" published in US and "Design for access and mobility requirement for Children and Adolescents with Physical Disabilities" published in Australia were reviewed. As a result, we categorized the guidelines according to contents such as locations, areas, space organizations, nursing spaces, sanitary spaces, and doors and corridors. The goal of this study is to provide the basic information to develop domestic design guidelines to ensure that the child care centers are welcoming and usable for everyone possible.

장애아동 어머니가 지각하는 스트레스 및 대처행동과 생활만족도 (The Stress, Coping, and Life Satisfaction Perceived by Mothers with Disabled Children)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the types of the stress and coping behaviors perceived by mothers of children with disabilities, and to investigate factors affecting their life satisfaction. For this study, we surveyed 239 mothers living in the city. The results are as follows: First, we can categorize the stress into parental stress, economic stress, child developmental stress, physical stress, and emotional stress. Second, we can classify the coping behaviors into active efforts, avoidance, and emotional diversion. Lastly, life satisfaction of mothers of children with disabilities tends to depend on such factors as emotional stress, husband's support, parental stress, emotional diversion coping, economic stress, school- children, and their education.

The Effects of Therapeutic Horseback Riding on Equilibrium for Children with Disabilities

  • This study was performed on 26 disabled adolescent participants (16 male, 10 female) with the objective of testing changes in equilibrium after engagement in horseback riding. Participants of total 26 persons were divided into three groups as follows: 6 children with Cerebral Palsy (CP), 14 children with Intellectual Disability (ID) and 6 children with Autism (AT). Participants engaged in therapeutic horseback riding (TR) two times per week for 30 minutes per session. The 26 participants demonstrated a considerable increase in equilibrium ability, with an average increase in equilibrium time of $44.22{\pm}50.70$ sec after TR. Equilibrium also increased according to disability group: CP (P < 0.05), ID (P < 0.001), and AT (P < 0.05). TR should be considered as a possible method for improving functionality in the physically disabled. This data may also be usefully applied to the development of a horseback riding program for the improvement of equilibrium in the disabled.

성인이 된 장애자녀를 돌보는 노인부모의 부양부담감 (The Burden of Aged Parents Caring for Adult Children with Disabilities)

  • Purpose: This study was to describe the burden of aged parents caring for adult children with disabilities and related factors. Methods: The subjects were 123 caregivers aged over 65 who were caring for 18-year-old or older children with disabilities. The research tool of this study was a structured questionnaire on family burden. Data were collected from June 3 to 25, 2010, and analyzed by Cronbach's alpha, mean, standard deviation, t-test, and ANOVA using SAS 9.2 program. Results: The major findings of this study were as follows. Elderly parents caring for adult children with disabilities perceived a moderate level of burden. The burden from concern over their children's future was highest, and economic and physical burdens were higher when the parents were younger. Burden was significantly different according to parents' characteristics such as gender, perceived health status, disease, the costs of caring for disabled children, and children's characteristics such as disability rating, health status, and ADL. Conclusion: In order to reduce the burden of elderly parents caring for adult children with disabilities, we need to improve their health status and assess comprehensive policies.

장애아 부모의 삶의 만족도에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구 (A study on the factors influencing the satisfaction of life of disabled children parents)

  • 본 연구는 장애아 부모의 삶의 만족도에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구에 목적이 있다. 설문조사 자료는 수도권 특수학교, 경기도 특수학교, 주간보호소, 장애인 복지관, 특히 한국장애인 부모회에서 전국에 있은 지회, 지부를 통하여 장애인 부모님을 대상으로 389부의 자료를 수집하였다. 통계분석은 SPSS 19.0 프로그램을 활용하여 요인분석, 신뢰도분석, 장애아 부모의 환경요인이 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향을 분석하기 위하여 인구사회학적 특성을 통제변수로 하고, 환경요인을 독립변수로 하여 위계적 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과는 인구사회학적 특성의 종교유무와 월평균 소득이 삶의 만족도에 정(+)적인 영향을 미쳤고, 환경요인 모두가 삶의 만족도에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 가족지지, 장애정도, 사회네트워크, 개인성격은 장애아 부모의 삶의 만족도에 정(+)적인 영향을 미쳤으며, 이들 요인의 상대적 영향력은 가족지지, 장애정도, 사회네트워크, 개인성격의 순으로 높았다. 이 결과는 장애아 부모가 가족으로부터 정서적 지지와 도움을 받고 아이의 장애정도가 낮을수록, 장애아 부모와의 모임이나 장애복지 관련 각종 프로그램에 참여할수록, 그리고 긍정적인 성격을 갖고 있을수록 삶의 만족도가 높아지는 것으로 해석할 수 있다.
