This study found a relationship between the characteristics of the elderly with disabilities and extra health care monthly costs caused by disability and suggests methods for effectively managing health care spending of the elderly with disabilities. This study used data from the 2011 Survey on the Disabled conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs. The results of the analysis indicate that the relations between the socio-demographic characteristics of the elderly with disabilities and extra health care monthly costs caused by disability of the elderly are influenced by factors such as gender, age, members of the household, average monthly income and type of health insurance. Elderly people with disabilities spend too much for their medical care. To solve this problem, the government needs to find a variety of policy approaches to improve administrative procedure, establish a medical delivery system and enhance health care services.
Purpose: This study explored the factors influencing the health-related life satisfaction of people with disabilities who engaged in physical activity, by age and gender. Methods: A secondary analysis was conducted of the 2020 Third Disability and Life Dynamics Panel (2021). The participants were 2,796 people who performed regular physical activity at least once a week. The variables selected were disability-related factors (degree of disability, multiple disabilities, and type of disability), sociodemographic factors (age, gender, living alone, and mean monthly family income), and health-related factors (amount of physical activity, self-esteem, depression, chronic disease, subjective health, and health-related life satisfaction). Descriptive statistics, the chi-square test, the t-test, two-way analysis of variance, and multiple regression analysis were conducted. Results: In total, 58.0% of participants were male, and 42.0% were female. For age groups, 14.4% were children/adolescents (0-19 years), 42.6% were adults (20-59 years), and 43.0% were seniors (≥60 years). The mean score for health-related life satisfaction was 5.0±2.15 out of 10. Adults and seniors whose level of physical activity met or exceeded recommendations had higher subjective health. Moreover, men had better subjective health than women in seniors. Health-related life satisfaction was higher among those who had higher self-esteem, were not depressed, did not have chronic diseases, and had better subjective health. Conclusion: Gender significantly influenced health-related life satisfaction in children/ adolescents and seniors. Disability-related factors were significant in adults, and health-related factors were significant in all age groups. Therefore, these factors should be considered when designing interventions to promote subjective health and health-related life satisfaction of people with disabilities.
Objectives: This study aimed to provide a scoping review of the impact of COVID-19 on people with disabilities. Methods: PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) Group's key questions (PICO) for systematic reviews, a literature search was conducted from January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2023 using the "AND" search formula. The databases used were Korea DB: RISS, SCIENCEON, and KoreaMed, and International DB: PubMed, CINAHL, and Embase. Results: Among a total of 22 selected articles, 4 studies were published in korea journals: 3 were survey studies (75.0%), 1 was an analysis study (25.0%), and 18 studies were published in international journals. Through a literature review, we confirmed the differences in difficulties between PwD (People with Disability) and PwoD (People without Disability) in the COVID-19 situation, differences by disability type, and post-COVID-19 impact. In order to examine this systematically and objectively, the results were examined by dividing them, which are components based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Conclusion: In order to respond well to crises and establish effective health policies in similar pandemic situations in the future, understanding and exploration of more diverse types and areas of disability are necessary. In addition, the development and application of appropriate health education and health promotion programs for disability type and ICF component area are required. In addition, it is necessary to develop and apply appropriate health education and health promotion programs tailored to the type of disability and ICF component area.
Background : Demands have increased for a variety of welfare services and customized services for persons with disabilities(PWD). A management System focused on PWD was needed to provide for comprehensive services. The purpose of this study was to design a disability database and an application system in order to provide continuous and comprehensive rehabilitation service for PWD. Methods : We analyzed local and abroad disability-related policies and systems and derived the contents that should be included in the integrated database for PWD through a survey among rehabilitation specialists. Result : The integrated database for PWD was composed of 7 categories including General Characteristics, Health & Medicine, Assistance, Education, Employment, Economics and Daily & Social Life. The applicable system of integrated database for PWD was proposed to help conducting policies in such areas as follows ; 'welfare', 'education and culture', 'economic activity', 'social participation' and 'Health'. Conclusion : The main goal of disability policy and strategy should be established by systematically analyzing disability-related data integrating database of PWD. Accordingly, specific objectives and directions for disability policies should be set and efficiently managed and operated. The integrated database for PWD may be utilized for disability-related policies and service monitering, sustainable and integrated management and community participation and integration based on the rights of the disabled.

Objectives : Research on the gender differences of health among older Korean people has been limited compared with the research for other stages of life. This study first examined the patterns and magnitude of the gender differences of health in later life. Second, we examined the gender differences in the health of older men and women that were attributable to differing socioeconomic conditions. Methods : Using the nationally representative 2005 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, the gender differences in disability and subjective poor health were assessed by calculating the age adjusted and gender-specific prevalence. Logistic regression analyses were used to assess if the differences between the men and women for health could be explained by differential exposure to socioeconomic factors and/or the differential vulnerability of men and women to these socioeconomic factors. Results : Our results indicated that older women were more likely than the men to report disability and poor subjective health. The health disadvantage of older women was diminished by differential experiences with socioeconomic factors, and especially education. The differences shrink as much as 43.7% in the case of disability and 35.4% in the case of poor subjective health by the differential exposure to educational attainment. Any differential vulnerability to socioeconomic factors was not found between the men and women, which means that socioeconomic factors may have similar effect on health in both genders. Conclusions : Differential socioeconomic experience and exposure between the men and women might cause gender difference in health in old age Koreans.
Patients with mental disability who are classified as dental severely disabled, have poor oral health status and many difficulties in taking health services. The purpose of this study was to investigate factors of influencing in visiting oral health care services. After receiving approval from institutional review board in Seoul National University, 39 participants were recruited and the oral health examination and questionnaire were taken. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA, independent t-test, hierarchical linear regression for predicting influence of each participants' characteristics on oral examination time and care time. In regression model, the higher the disability grade and the lower the degree of cooperation, the more oral examination time increased. However possibility of communication was not significantly influenced. Also, the higher the disability grade and the lower the degree of cooperation, the more oral care time increased.
