  • Finding intersection point between a surface and a line is one of major problem in CAD/CAM. The intersection point could be found in an exact form or with numerical method. In this paper, the exact solution of the intersection point between a ruled surface which is generated by the movement of an endmill and the z-direction vector is presented. The cutter swept surface which is a ruled surface and the Z-direction vector are represented with parametric equations. With the nature of parametric equations, the geometric properties at the intersection point are easily acquired.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method for a correlative phase comparison direction finding(DF) which detects the arrival direction of radio waves by data fusing the calculated phase difference and the measured phase difference between the antennas when the radio waves are incident on the circular array antenna composed of 7 antennas respectively. The correlation type phase comparison method uses a uniform circular array(UCA) and a linear array method. The phase difference data calculated formally and the phase difference data measured in the test environment are fused with a correlation function, therefore, it is superior to the currently used phase comparison direction detection method. When the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the received signal is 20dB and the inter-antenna distance to the wavelength of the received signal($L/{\lambda}$) is 0.5, the accuracy of the correlative DF is $1.7^{\circ}$ while measurement phase comparison's is larger than $2.5^{\circ}$, It can be used for electromagnetic signal monitoring and military direction detection.

  • This paper describes the design of a simulator for analyzing the accuracy of a correlative interferometer(CI) direction finder. CI direction finder is robust to noise, so it is often used in aircraft or ships where complex antenna installation is required, and the direction finding accuracy is very high. When the radio wave is incident at a specific azimuth angle, the phase difference calculated in a noiseless environment and the phase difference measured in a real environment with noise are fused to estimate the largest correlation coefficient as the azimuth angle of the radio wave. The simulator receives RF frequency, the number of antennas, the antenna coordinates, the transmission signal intensity, the bandwidth of the receiver, the gain and the payload effect, and calculates the direction finding accuracy of 0-360 degrees azimuth and 0-60 degree elevation with 0.5 degree. accuracy.

  • This paper proposes an aircraft-installed compact offset-parabolic-reflector antenna for the spinning direction-finding applications. The feeder of the reflector antenna is a LPDA antenna that has the ultra-wideband characteristics and the $45^{\circ}$ slant linear polarization. The reflector is designed to be slanted by $5^{\circ}$ in the elevation and to be small in size on the basis of the reference parabolic shape for the purpose of the high gain and mounting on the underside of aircraft fuselage. Over the ultra-wideband 20:1 bandwidth from S to Ka band, the measured average gain of the proposed antenna is 27.97 dBi, and the average half-power beam width is $4.55^{\circ}$ in the azimuth and $4.3^{\circ}$ in the elevation which is the pencil-beam radiation pattern. All the measured data are similar to the simulation results. The designed compact offset-parabolic-reflector antenna that is installed in the limited area has the ultra-wideband and high-gain characteristics. We expect that the newly designed antenna can be applied to the spinning direction-finding antenna system installed in an aircraft.

  • In this paper, self-calibration algorithm based on covariance matrix is proposed for compensating amplitude/phase mismatch in multi-baseline interferometer direction finding system. The proposed method is a solution to nonlinear constrained minimization problem which dramatically calibrate mismatch error using space sector concept with cost function as defined in this paper. This method, however, has a drawback that requires an estimated initial angle to determine the proper space sector. It is well known that this type of drawback is common in nonlinear optimization problem. Superior calibration capabilities achieved with this approach are illustrated by simulation experiments in comparison with interferometer algorithm for a varitiety of amplitude/phase mismatch error. Furthermore, this approach has been found to provide an exceptional calibration capabilities even in case amplitude and phase mismatch are more than 30 dB and over $5^{\circ}$, respectively, with sector spacing of less than $50^{\circ}$.

  • In this paper, we implemented a real-time 2.4 GHz direction finding system using a time-modulated array(TMA) and an Universal Software Radio Peripheral(USRP). Our system consists of two commercial monopole antennas, self-designed switch board, and an USRP, and it is controlled using LabVIEW program in real-time. From measured results, it is verified that our system can exactly detect the incident angle within 4 degree in the range of 30 degree. Our direction finding system has advantages of a simple hardware architecture than conventional one with multiple receivers, and a simple algorithm only by using a main lobe and a first side-lobe of switching frequency.

  • In the direction and location finding field of application, AOA, TDOA and FDOA, etc. are used to improve the performance of geolocation. But, these methods cause some limitations such as the calibrations for phase and amplitude matching and precise time synchronization among receiving channels. In this paper, We suggest a method for generating FDOA using rotating antenna and the geolocation of stationary emitter using two receivers in one platform for minimizing the limitations. We present performance of simulation results and test results of the FDOA geolocation system. The direction finding errors of the system are less than $0.1^{\circ}$ rms and the distance errors are less than 3 % compared with the practical distance.

  • In this paper, we consider an online compensation algorithm considering the mutual coupling and suggest a new GPS antenna array to apply. To evaluate the anti-jamming performance for the proposed antenna array, ULA and URA, we divide direction finding of multiple jamming signals into environments. 1. there is no mutual coupling. 2. there is mutual coupling but no compensation. 3. mutual coupling is compensated. RMSE analysis showed that the online compensation algorithm works and that peak detection is possible for multiple jamming signals.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel small antenna for direction finding applications. The proposed antenna employs a skirt type disk to eliminate the radiation null on the broad-side direction in the high frequency range. Additionally, the multi-section matching stub is used for impedance matching in the low frequency range, The size of the proposed antenna is reduced as a half of the 60cm dipole which has a same resonance frequency of 200MHz. The antenna maintains a donut shape radiation pattern with a broad beam width for a wide range of frequency while the 60cm dipole shows radiation nulls on the broad-side direction and the high side-lobe level from 700MHz to 1,300MHz.
