Direct Solid State Synthesis of Zn4Sb3 by Hot Pressing and Thermoelectric Properties (열간 압축 공정에 의한 Zn4Sb3의 직접 고상 반응 합성 및 열전특성)

  • Direct solid state synthesis by hot pressing has been applied in order to produce high efficiency $Zn_4Sb_3$ bulk specimens. Single phase $Zn_4Sb_3$ with 98.5% of theoretical density was successfully produced by direct hot pressing of elemental powders containing 1.2 at.% excess Zn. Thermoelectric properties as a function of temperature were investigated from room temperature to 600 K and compared with results of other studies. Transport properties at room temperature were also evaluated. Thermoelectric properties of single phase $Zn_4Sb_3$ materials produced by direct synthesis were measured and are comparable to the published data. Direct solid state synthesis by hot pressing provides a promising processing route in this material.

  • The Hydroxyapatite powders were prepared by Wet-direct and Hydrothermal synthesis using Ca(NO3)2.4H2O and (NH4)2.HPO4.Stoichiometric and good cristalline HAp powders were obtained 9$0^{\circ}C$ by wet-direct process. The aspect ratio of HAp powders prepared by hydrothermal synthesis was increased with increasing synthetic temperature. The HAp particles obtained at 20$0^{\circ}C$ for 10hr were needle shaped ultra fine crystals, about 100nm in size. Small amount of TCP was obtained above 80$0^{\circ}C$ after heat-treatment of hydrothermally synthesized HAp but good crystalline HAp phase was maintained up to 120$0^{\circ}C$ as the primary phase.

  • Oxindole dimers have been used as intermediates in the synthesis of various cyclotryptamine alkaloids. An efficient direct synthesis of oxindole dimers has been carried out from 3-substituted oxindoles via an oxidative dimerization using manganese(III) acetate or copper acetate/silver acetate system.

  • Non-genotoxic diamines 2,2'-dimethyl-5,5'-dipropoxybenzidine and 5,5'-dipropoxy-benzidine were employed as potential alternatives to benzidine in the synthesis and evaluation of new direct dyes for cotton. Assessment of the resultant dyes indicated that both diamines can be used to prepare new direct dyes having colors and fastness properties that make them comparable to commercial direct dyes, and that the structures of the new direct dyes can be confirmed by negative ion electrospray mass spectrometry (ESMS). The mutagenic properties of new direct dyes were established using the standard Ames Salmonella mammalian mutagenicity assay.

  • The kinetics of the direct synthesis of DME was studied under different conditions over a temperature range of $220\~280^{\circ}C$, syngas ratio $1.2\~ 3.0$ All experiment were carried out over hybrid catalyst, composed to a methanol synthesis catalyst (Cu/ZnO/$Al_2O_3$) and a dehydration Catalyst ($\gamma$-Al_2O_3$) The observed reaction rate qualitatively follows a Langmiur-Hinshellwood type of reaction mechanism. Such a mechanism is considered with three reaction, methanol synthesis, methanol dehydration and water gas shift reaction.   • This paper deals with a method for finding the physical structure of dynamic systems which shows reasonable response to a given specifiation. The method uses only four basic models of bond graph prototypes which have been originally proposed by the authors as a general model for dynamic systems, and then makes its procedure highly physical in the sense that it can synthesize a dynamic system through the structural transformation directly on bond graph models without any mathematical manipulation. Also, it is shown that this method has further advantages in optimizing parameters for an existing system rather than developing design concepts for a new device, the latter being more suitable using the so-called analytical synthesis method introduced by Park and Redfield. One example serves to trace the outlines of the direct synthesis method proposed in this paper for dynamic systems in terms of bond graph prototypes.

  • Synthesis of catecholamine from aniline is achieved by plasma enhanced CVD process. Catecholamine has a variety of functions in body such as brain and bloodstream controls. Catecholamine also has an interesting property of a material independent ability of functionalizing surface, which is found at mussels' adhesive nature. Synthesis of catecholamine has only been available from DOPA by chemical reduction and oxidation. This study presents the direct synthesis of catecholamine from further elemental source, aniline, which has not been achieved by a conventional chemical method. The process also indicates that a variety of catecholamine can be formed by controlling reactant gases. In additional to PECVD's very useful properties such as conformal, ultrathin and uniform coatings, a direct synthesis from aniline and a capability of controlling formation of a variety catecholamine is believed to open up a numerous applications.

  • TiB2 was simultaneously synthesized and densified with concurrent self-propagating high-temperature synthesis and direct contact-heating by electrcial power input and pressure. Density of TiB2 synthesized by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis and consolidated simultaneously by direct contact-heating and pressure was maximum 80% of the theoretical density (4.52g/㎤). Temperature profile was analyzed by solving heat balance equation with numerical method (FTCS method). The temperature of the sample was sufficiently raised to that temperature sufficient to be densified. It was ascertained that the density of the SHS synthesized TiB2 is exponentially proportinal to the input thermal energy per mass.

  • Optimum directivity synthesis of ultrasonic transducers in linear array is considered. To realize the desired directivity, a robust and efficient method is proposed which is the direct inversion combined with the iterative DFP (Davidon-Fletcher-Powell) method. A quasi-ideal beam with the beam width and the steering beam angle specified are chosen for the numerical demonstrations. The demonstration is then extended to the case of multi-beams. The proposed combination method shows quick convergence over the single LMS or DFP method at the expense of the system matrix inversion.

  • The multivariate statistical analysis methods, using both multiple linear regression(MLR) and partial least square(PLS), have been applied to predict the reactor properties and the product quality of a direct esterification reactor for polyethylene terephthalate(PET) synthesis. On the basis of the set of data including the flow rate of water vapor, the flow rate of EG vapor, the concentration of acid end groups of a product and other operating conditions such as temperature, pressure, reaction times and feed monomer mole ratio, two multi-variable analysis methods have been applied. Their regression and prediction abilities also have been compared. The prediction results are critically compared with the actual plant data and the other mathematical model based results in reliability. This paper shows that PLS method approach can be used for the reasonably accurate prediction of a product quality of a direct esterification reactor in PET synthesis process.
