EFFECT OF DIRECT-FED MICROORGANISMS ON BROILER GROWTH PERFORMANCE AND LITTER AMMONIA LEVEL

  • Broilers were fed diets supplemented with various levels of a probiotic (mixture of the following direct-fed microorganisms: Lactobacillus, Bacillus, and Streptococcus). Growth performance, abdominal fat, excreta, and litter ammonia level were determined. The results showed that birds fed the probiotic-supplemented diets had better weight gain (p < 0.01) and feed conversion (gain:feed;p < 0.12) when compared to the birds fed the unsupplemented diet. No differences in feed intake and abdominal fat were observed among birds fed the different experimental diets. Excreta (p < 0.05) and litter (p < 0.01) ammonia levels were reduced by dietary probiotic supplementation. A dosage of 0.25 g of the probiotic/kg of diet is needed to maiximize growth performance during both the starter and finisher periods. A higher dosage (approximate 0.5 g/kg) is needed to minimize litter ammonia production.

  • Optimal design of the direct-driven Permanent Magnet(PM) wind generator, combined with F.E.A(Finite Element Analysis) and Genetic Algorithm(GA), has been performed to maximize the Annual Energy Production(AEP) over the entire wind speed characterized by the statistical model of wind speed distribution. Particularly, the proposed parallel computing via internet web service has contributed to reducing excessive computing times for optimization.

  • Since a pattern defects "repair" system using a diode pumped solid state laser for Flat Panel Display (FPD) was suggested, a lot of laser systems have been explored and developed for mass-production microfabrication process. A maskless lithography system using 405 nm violet laser and Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) has been developed for PDP and Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) Thin Film Transistor (TFT) photolithography process. In addition, a "Laser Direct Patterning" system for Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) for Plasma Display Panel(PDP) has been evaluated one of the best successful examples for laser application system which is applied for mass-production lines. The "heat" and "solvent" free laser microfabrications process will be widely used because the next-generation flat panel displays, Flexible Display and Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) should use plastic substrates and organic materials which are very difficult to process using traditional fabrication methods.

  • In modern Construction Industry, as accumulation of capital and improvement of technology skills, buildings are becoming higher and more enormous, also the portion of steel works has been increasing. In addition, it is necessary to predict the optimum level of construction cost in a reasonable way. The composition of construction is direct construction cost, indirect construction cost and so on. However, it is not enough to study about indirect construction cost rather than direct construction cost. In this study, the state of productivity and indirect construction cost are analyzed in the steel production. As a result, the productivity and ratio of indirect cost in steel plant by inserted per 1ton are suggested.

  • The purpose of this paper is to introduce the KOMPSAT-2 Direct Receiving and Processing System, hereafter DRS, located in Svalbard, Tromso and Toulouse. The KOMPSAT-2 from KOMPSAT-2 satellite and generating preprocessed image data that is a kind of raw image data for standard image production. The products generate from this system are comprised of 1R and 1G product upon having a geographic coordinates. In the following paragraph, it is described that DRS configuration, data processing procedure and product characteristics and then, the value-added image production test such orthoimage is introduced.

  • In this paper, the optimal design of a wind generator, implemented with the hybridized GA(Genetic Algorithm) and ES(Expert System), has been performed to maximize the AEP(Annual Energy Production) over the whole wind speed characterized by the statistical model of wind speed distribution. In particular, to solve the problem of calculation iterate, ES finds the superior individual and apply to initial generation of GA and it makes reduction of search domain. Meanwhile, for effective searching in reduced search domain, it propose Intelligent GA algorithm. Also, it shows the results of optimized model 500[kW] wind generator using hybridized algorithm and benchmark result of compare with GA.

Genetic Analysis of Direct and Maternal Effects for Calf Market and Carcass Weights in Japanese Black Cattle

  • To evaluate direct and maternal effects on calf market weight (CMW) and carcass weight (CW) in Japanese Black cattle under an animal model, genetic parameters were estimated using 51,320 records of CMW and 11,944 records of CW, respectively. Direct and maternal heritabilities, and direct-maternal genetic correlation were estimated to be 0.22, 0.06 and 0.27 for CMW, and 0.23, 0.12 and -0.40 for CW, respectively. Correlation coefficient between maternal breeding values for CMW and CW was 0.521 for 157 sires appeared in both CMW and CW data sets. These results suggest that the maternal genetic effect on pre-weaning growth carries over to carcass weight. Maternal breeding values for both calf market weight and carcass weight could be used as the indicator traits of maternal ability in Japanese Black cattle.

Influence of Inbreeding Depression on Genetic (Co)Variance and Sire-by-Year Interaction Variance Estimates for Weaning Weight Direct-Maternal Genetic Evaluation

  • This study examined the effects of ignoring inbreeding depression on (co)variance components for weaning weight through the use of Monte Carlo simulation. Weaning weight is of particular interest as a trait for which additive direct and maternal genetic components exist and there then is the potential for a direct-maternal genetic covariance. Ignoring inbreeding depression in the analytical model (.8 kg reduction of phenotypic value per 1% inbreeding) led to biased estimates of all genetic (co) variance components, all estimates being larger than the true values of the parameters. In particular, a negative bias in the direct-maternal genetic covariance was observed in analyses that ignored inbreeding depression. A small spurious sire-by-year interaction variance was also observed.

Labor Market Regulation and MNE's Production: Evidence from OECD Countries

  • Purpose - This paper examines the impact of labor market regulations on FDI and the production of foreign firms. Design/methodology - We use an index of employment protection along with data on the FDI and production of foreign affiliates that are provided by the OECD. Findings - The empirical results show that strict employment protection discourages both the production and initial entry of foreign firms, with its impact on production being larger than that on the initial entry decision. The result is robust to various specifications in which instrumental variable estimations are used by applying a unionization rate and a severance pay for redundancy dismissal as instruments, respectively. Therefore, policymakers should not limit their focus to tax incentives, cash grants, and relaxation of market regulations, but they should also extend their attention to labor market deregulation and decreasing non-wage cost to attract more foreign firms into their countries. Originality/value - This paper attempts to answer the question on the impact of employment protection rules on the foreign firm's decisions regarding production as well as initial entry.

EU의 중.동부유럽으로의 확대와 투자입지 및 경제공간의 변화 (EU Enlargement toward Central and Eastern Europe, Location of Foreign Direct Investment and the Changing of Economic Space)

  • 최근 EU의 중 동부유럽으로의 확대로 EU의 경제활동 공간구조에 많은 변화가 예상된다. 본 연구는 EU의 중 동부유럽 확대로 인해 나타나고 있는 경제활동 공간변화를 외국인직접투자의 투자입지 분석을 통해 살펴보았다. 중 동부유럽 국가의 외국인직접투자는 1990년대 중반 이후 이 지역 국가들의 EU 가입이 구체화되면서 잠재력을 지닌 시장을 선점하고, 저렴한 노동력을 이용하여 생산의 효율성을 높이려는 EU 기업들에 의해 크게 확대되었다. 외국인직접 투자는 넓은 시장과 저렴한 노동력, 안정적인 정치구조, 적극적인 외국자본 유치노력을 보인 폴란드, 헝가리, 체코, 슬로바키아에 집중되고 있다. 그리고 투자지역으로는 발달된 하부구조와 지역산업조직, 숙력된 노동력, 시장 등 유리한 생산요인을 지닌 대도시와 값싼 양질의 노동력과 유사한 문화적 환경 그리고 저렴한 수송비의 이점을 지닌 동 서부 유럽의 인접지역이 선호되고 있다. 다시 말해, 중 동부유럽국가의 EU 통합에 따라 외국인직접투자 유입이 많은 헝가리, 체코, 폴란드의 수도와 그 주변지역 그리고 동 서부유럽의 인접지역이 EU의 새로운 경제활동공간으로 부상하고 있다. 이와 아울러, 발틱 공간은 인접국가간 교역 및 직접투자의 확대로 발달 가능성이 높은 지역이다.
