The acoustical sources of intake and exhaust systems in fluid machines are often characterized by the source impedance and strength using linear frequency-domain modeling. In the case of the sources which are nonlinear and time-variant, however, the source parameters were sometimes incorrectly obtained. In this paper, the source model and direct measurement technique are modified in order to evaluate the effect due to nonlinear and periodically time-varying source character as well as the linear property of the reflectivity of in-duct fluid machine source. With a priori known kinematical information of the source, the types of nonlinear time-variant terms can be presumed by a simple physical model, in which there is practically no restriction on the form of the model. The concept of source impedance can be extendable by introducing the linear frequency response function for each nonlinear or time-variant input. Extending the conventional method and adapting the reverse MISO technique, it is possible to develop a direct method that can deal with the nonlinear time-variant source parameters. The proposed direct method has a novel feature that there is no restriction on the probability or spectral natures of the excited sound pressure data. The present method is verified by the simulated measurements for simplified fluid machines. It is thought that the proposed method would be useful in predicting the insertion loss or the radiated sound level from intake or exhaust systems.

Human activities account for approximately two-thirds of global methane emissions, wherein the livestock sector is the single massive methane emitter. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas of over 21 times the warming effect of carbon dioxide. In the rumen, methanogens produce methane as a by-product of anaerobic fermentation. Methane released from ruminants is considered as a loss of feed energy that could otherwise be used for productivity. Economic progress and growing population will inflate meat and milk product demands, causing elevated methane emissions from this sector. In this review, diverse approaches from feed manipulation to the supplementation of organic and inorganic feed additives and direct-fed microbial in mitigating enteric methane emissions from ruminant livestock are summarized. These approaches directly or indirectly alter the rumen microbial structure thereby reducing rumen methanogenesis. Though many inorganic feed additives have remarkably reduced methane emissions from ruminants, their usage as feed additives remains unappealing because of health and safety concerns. Hence, feed additives sourced from biological materials such as direct-fed microbials have emerged as a promising technique in mitigating enteric methane emissions.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine whether the direct anterior approach (DAA) can be applied to hemiarthroplasty for treatment of unstable femoral intertrochanteric fractures in elderly patients. Materials and Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of 34 cases (34 patients) who underwent bipolar hemiarthroplasty using a DAA from February 2019 to April 2020. The mean age of the patients was 82.68 years (range, 67-95 years). A cementless distal fixation hip system was used in all cases. Operation time, total amount of blood loss, intraoperative and postoperative fractures, infections, and reoperations were measured. The patients performed weight-bearing walking as tolerated immediately after surgery. Measurement of migration of the greater trochanter (GT) and progressive subsidence of the femoral stem was performed using follow-up radiographs. Results: The mean operative time was 83.50 minutes (range, 60-120 minutes). The mean amount of bleeding was 263.53 mL (range, 112-464 mL). Walking started a mean of 3.03 days (range, 3-4 days) after surgery. There was no case of progressive migration of the GT more than 5 mm even though it was not fixed. There were no cases of infection, dislocation, or reoperation. Conclusion: Bipolar hemiarthroplasty using the DAA for treatment of unstable femoral intertrochanteric fractures could be considered a useful option that provides many advantages in elderly patients.

This study was conducted to predict the rice yield loss and to determine the economic threshold levels for direct-seeding flooded rice cultivation from competition to the most serious perennial weeds, Cyperus serotinus Rottb. and Echinochloa crus-galli L. The rice yield loss model of C. serotinus and E. crus-galli were predicted as Y = 560 kg/(1+0.001883x), $r^2$=0.933, and Y = 507 kg/(1+0.001734x), $r^2$=0.867, respectively. In comparison of the competitiveness represented by parameter ${\beta}$, it was 0.001883 in C. serotinus and 0.001734 in E. crus-galli, respectively. Economic thresholds calculated using Cousens' equation were negatively related with the competitiveness of weed. The economic thresholds of C. serotinus and E. crus-galli were 15.5 and 2.3 plants per $m^2$, respectively.

This study was conducted to predict the rice yield loss and to determine the economic threshold levels for direct-seeding flooded rice cultivation from competition to the most serious weeds, Sagittaria trifolia L. and Bidens frondosa L. The rice yield loss models of S. trifolia and B. frondosa were predicted as Y = 497.0/(1+0.003760x), $R^2$=0.869 and Y = 486.0/(1+0.007612x), $R^2$ = 0.887, respectively. In comparison of the competitiveness represented by parameter ${\beta}$, it was 0.003760 in S. trifolia and 0.007612 in B. frondosa, respectively. Economic thresholds calculated using Cousens' equation was negatively related with the competitiveness of weed. The economic thresholds of S. trifolia and B. frondosa were 7.6 and 3.9 plants per $m^2$, respectively.
Osseointegrated prosthetic auricular reconstruction can be classified as either direct or indirect. In the $Br{\aa}nemark $ system of direct osseointegration, implants are placed into the mastoid process of the temporal bone. In the Epitec system of indirect osseointegration, implants are inserted into a three-dimensional carrier plate that is fixed to the mastoid by means of screws. We experienced forty-four cases using the indirect system and seventeen cases using the direct system. We compared with two systems by complications, such as skin reaction, implant loosening, implant loss. There were no specific differences in the skin reaction around the implants and abutments in relation to age or system used. The degree of skin reaction was different according to the conditions around the implant: in cases of virgin microtia, a skin flap was used to cover the implant, in contrast to grafted skin coverage for failed autogenous reconstruction. In both systems, the skin reaction was more severe and frequent in skin flap than in grafted skin. Loosening of the implant was more frequent in the direct system; however, accidental detachment of the implant from the abutment was more frequent in the indirect system. To reduce complications of skin reaction in osseointegrated prosthetic auricular reconstruction, it is important for soft tissue around implant to immobilize. Therefore, grafted skin is better than skin flap as soft tissue around implant. And immobilization of soft tissue around implant by wound dressing is major facter.

In this study, we fabricated the high-brightness AlGaInP-based red light emitting diodes (LED)s using by direct printing technique and inductive coupled plasma (ICP) reactive ion etching (RIE). In general, surface roughening was fabricated by wet etching process to improve the light extraction efficiency of AlGaInP-based red LED. However, a structure of the surface roughening, which was fabricated by wet etching, was tiled cone-shape after wet etching process due to crystal structure of AlGaInP materials, which was used as top-layer of red LED. This tilted cone-shape of surface roughening can improve the light extraction of LED, but it caused a loss of the light extraction efficiency of LED. So, in this study, we fabricated perfectly cone shaped pattern using direct printing and dry etching process to maximize the light extraction efficiency of LED. Both submicron pattern and micron pattern was formed on the surface of red LED to compare the enhancement effect of light extraction efficiency of LEDs according to the diameter of sapphire patterns. After patterning process using direct printing and ICP-RIE proceeded on the red LED, light output was enhanced up to 10 % than that of red LED with wet etched structure. This enhancement of light extraction of red LED was maintained after packaging process. And as a result of analyze of current-voltage characteristic, there is no electrical degradation of LED.

There are the free space model, the direct-path and ground reflected model, Egli model, Okumura-Hata model in the representative propagational models. The measured results at the area of PNG area were used as the experimental data in this paper. The new proposed partial interval analysis method is applied on the measured propagation data in the cellular band. The interval for the analysis is divided from the entire 30 Km distance to 5 Km, and next to 1 Km. The best-fit propagation models are chosen on all partial intervals. The means and standard deviations are calculated for the differences between the measured data and all partial interval models. By using the 5 Km- or 1 Km- partial interval analysis, the standard deviation between the measured data and the partial propagation models was improved more than 1.7 dB.

Recently, compressive sensing based data loss recovery techniques have become popular for Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) applications. These techniques involve an encoding process which is onerous to sensor node because of random sensing matrices used in compressive sensing. In this paper, we are presenting a model where the sampled raw acceleration data is directly transmitted to base station/receiver without performing any type of encoding at transmitter. The received incomplete acceleration data after data losses can be reconstructed faithfully using compressive sensing based reconstruction techniques. An in-depth simulated analysis is presented on how random losses and continuous losses affects the reconstruction of acceleration signals (obtained from a real bridge). Along with performance analysis for different simulated data losses (from 10 to 50%), advantages of performing interleaving before transmission are also presented.
This paper is a report on the parametric study of the friction characteristics on the direct acting type OHC valve train system. The numerical simulation was performed by using the IV-TAP. Dynamic analysis by using the lumped mass method was previously performed to define the acting load. The friction characteristics were analyzed by using the partial asperity contact model. The effects of operating conditions and major design parameters on the total driving torque were investigated. From the analytical prediction, it is found that valve spring stillness, surface roughness, and base circle radius are the main factors to reduce the frictional loss on the valve train system.
