  • Purpose: With the development of digital dental technology, we are manufacturing prosthetic crown in various ways. However, the wax-up method that makes existing prosthetic crown is also used steadily. Thus, we will compare the shape of the crown designed with wax-up and the crown designed with CAD. Methods: Sculpt the crown with wax-up on the model to 10 dental technicians. The same model was used to design the crown CAD. Measure the size of the sculpted crown. The shapes were compared in three dimensions. Results: As a result, we could observe a difference in size and shape in crown designed with wax - up crown and crown. Conclusion: These results suggest that there are differences according to the method of carving crown and the method of processing.

  • A performance-based design (PBD) procedure, initially proposed for the seismic design of buildings, is tailored herein to the structural configurations commonly adopted in bridges. It aims at the efficient design of bridges for multiple performance levels (PLs), achieving control over a broad range of design parameters (i.e., strains, deformations, ductility factors) most of which are directly estimated at the design stage using advanced analysis tools (a special type of inelastic dynamic analysis). To evaluate the efficiency of the proposed design methodology, it is applied to an actual bridge that was previously designed using a different PBD method, namely displacement-based design accounting for higher mode effects, thus enabling comparison of the alternative PBD approaches. Assessment of the proposed method using nonlinear dynamic analysis for a set of spectrum-compatible motions, indicate that it results in satisfactory performance of the bridge. Comparison with the displacement-based method reveals significant cost reduction, albeit at the expense of increased computational effort.

  • A novel robot-operating-system-based flight and mission state communication node for X-Plane 11 flight control simulation environments and its simulation results were discussed. Although the proposed communication method requires considerable implementation steps compared with the conventional MATLAB/Simulink-based User Datagram Protocol (UDP) block utilization method, the proposed method enables a direct comparison of cockpit-view images captured during flight with the flight data. This comparison is useful for data acquisition under virtual environments and for the development of flight control systems. The fixed/rotary-wing and ground terrain elements simulated in virtual environments exhibited excellent visualization outputs, which can overcome time and space constraints on flight experiments and validation of missionary algorithms with complex logic.

  • Purpose: This in vitro study was conducted to evaluate the marginal and internal fit of three-unit Co-Cr frameworks fabricated by computer-aided metal milling and direct metal laser sintering(DMLS) systems in comparison to conventional casting method. Methods: Three-unit Co-Cr frameworks were fabricated by conventional wax up with casting(CWC), computer-aided metal milling(MM) and direct metal laser sintering(DMLS)(n=10 each). The marginal and internal fit of specimens were examined using a light-body silicone impression material. The thickness of light-body silicone was measured at eight reference points each, divided in the mesio distal and bucco lingual directions. All measurements were conducted by a stereomicroscope. Digital photos were taken at 150× magnification and then analyzed using a measurement software. The Kruskal-Wallis test and Bonferroni correction were used for analyzing the results. Results: The mean(SD) is ㎛ for fabrication methods, the mean marginal fit were recorded respectively, DMLS 39(27), followed by CWC 63(38), MM 220(128). and the mean internal fit CWC 95(47), DMLS 116(49), MM 210(152). In addition, the largest gap was found in the occlusal surface area among the internal measurement areas of all groups. Conclusion: As a result, the direct metal laser sintering method showed better marginal and internal fit than the metal milling method. The marginal and internal fit were statistically different according to the three fabrication methods(p<0.001). Except the MM group, the marginal fit of the CWC and DMLS groups was below the clinical standard of 120 ㎛. Based on the results of this study, it can be applied to clinical use in the future.

  • In this paper, improved direct torque control(DTC) of five-phase induction motor(IM) is proposed. Due to the additional degrees of freedom, five-phase IM drives present unique characteristics. One of them is the ability of enhancing the torque producing capability of the motor. Also five-phase motor drives possess many others advantage compared with the traditional three-phase motor drives. Such as, reducing the amplitude and increasing of frequency of torque pulsation, reducing amplitude of current per phase without increasing the voltage per phase and increasing the reliability. The direct torque control method is advantageous when it is applied to the five-phase IM. Because the five-phase inverter provides 32 space vectors in comparison to 8 space voltage vectors by the three-phase inverter. The 32 space voltage vectors are divided into three groups according to their magnitudes. The characteristics and dynamic performance of traditional five-phase DTC are analyzed and new DTC for five-phase IM is proposed. Therefore, a more precise flux and torque control algorithm for the five-phase IM drives can be suggested and explained. For presenting the superior performance of the pro-posed direct torque control, experimental results is presented using a 32 bit fixed point TMS320F2812 digital signal processor

  • Performance of DI diesel engine with high-pressure fuel injection equipment is directly related to its emission characteristics and fuel consumption. So, the electro-hydraulic injector for the common-rail injection system should be designed to meet the precise high fuel delivery control capability. Currently, most high pressure injector in use has a needle driven by the solenoid coil energy or the piezo actuator controlled by charge-discharge of output pulse current. In this study, macroscopic spray approaching method was applied under constant volume chamber to research the performance of three different injectors : solenoid, indirect-acting piezo and direct-acting piezo type for CR direct-injection. LED back illumination for Mie scattering was applied on the liquid spray visible of direct-acting piezo injector, including hydraulic-servo type solenoid and piezo-driven injectors. As main results, we found that a direct-acting piezo injector had better a spray tip penetration than hydraulic-servo injectors in spray visualization.

  • The transfer of predictive models using various chemometric techniques has been reported for FTNIR and scanning-grating based NIR instruments with respect relatively dry samples (<10% water). Some of the currently used transfer techniques include slope and bias correction (SBC), direct standardization (DS), piecewise direct standardization (PDS), orthogonal signal correction (OSC), finite impulse transform (FIR) and wavelet transform (WT) and application of neural networks. In a previous study (Greensill et at., 2001) on calibration transfer for wet samples (intact melons) across silicon diode array instrumentation, we reported on the performance of various techniques (SBC, DS, PDS, double window PDS (DWPDS), OSC, FIR, WT, a simple photometric response correction and wavelength interpolative method and a model updating method) in terms of RMSEP and Fearns criterion for comparison of RMSEP. In the current study, we compare these melon transfer results to a similar study employing pairs of spectrometers for non-invasive prediction of soluble solid content of peaches.
