발전용 연료전지 형식에 따른 균등화 발전비용 분석 (Analysis of Levelized Cost of Electricity for Type of Stationary Fuel Cells)

  • For the economic analysis of fuel cells, levelized cost of electricity was calculated according to the type, capacity, and annual production of the fuel cells. The cost of every component was calculated through the system component breakdown. The direct cost of the system included stack cost, component cost, assembly, test, and conditioning cost, and profit markup cost were added. The effect of capacity and annual production was analyzed by fuel cell type. Sensitivity analysis was performed according to stack life, capital cost, project period, and fuel cost. As a result, it was derived how much the economic efficiency of the fuel cell improves as the capacity increases and the annual production increases.

Performance of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells with Direct Internal Reforming of Methane

  • Performance of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), in comparison with that under hydrogen fuel, were investigated under direct internal reforming conditions. Anode supported cells were fabricated with an Ni+YSZ anode, YSZ electrolyte, and LSM+YSZ cathode for the present work. Measurements of I-V curves and impedance were conducted with S/C (steam to carbon) ratio of ~ 2 at $800^{\circ}C$. The outlet gas was analyzed using gas chromatography under open circuit condition; the methane conversion rate was calculated and found to be ~ 90% in the case of low flow rate of methane and steam. Power density values were comparable for both cases (hydrogen fuel and internal steam reforming of methane), and in the latter case the cell performance was improved, with a decrease in the flow rate of methane with steam, because of the higher conversion rate. The present work indicates that the short-term performance of SOFCs with conventional Ni+YSZ anodes, in comparison with that under hydrogen fuel, is acceptable under internal reforming condition with the optimized fuel flow rate and S/C ratio.

NaOH 활성화된 탄소나노섬유의 직접 메탄올 연료전지용 연료극 촉매의 담지체로서의 특성 고찰 (Characteristics of NaOH-Activated Carbon Nanofiber as a Support of the Anode Catalyst for Direct Methanol Fuel Cell)

  • NaOH 활성화법을 이용하여 다공성 탄소나노섬유(carbon nanofibers; 이하 CNF)를 온도 범위 700~$900^{\circ}C$에서 합성하였고, 상기 제조된 다공성 CNF를 담지체로 하여 직접메탄올 연료전지의 연료극용 촉매를 제조하고 평가하였다. NaOH 활성화에 의한 CNF 표면 특성의 변화를 비표면적 및 기공 크기 분포 자료를 통하여 조사하였고, 형상 및 구조의 변화를 전자현미경을 통하여 관찰하였다. 활성화 CNF에 담지된 촉매의 활성을 메탄올 산화 특성 및 단위전지를 통하여 평가하였다. 본 활성화 방법에 의한 기공의 형성과 이에 담지된 촉매의 활성과의 관계에 대한 고찰을 하였다.

Improved Power Capability with Pyrolyzed Carbon Electrodes in Micro Direct Photosynthetic/Metabolic Bio-fuel Cell

  • As a biofuel source, direct photosynthetic/metabolic biofuel cells (DPBFC) use cyanobacteria whose photosynthesis and metabolization reactions can convert light energy to electricity, In our previous work, we fabricated a prototype micro-DPBFC that could generate a peak current density of $36{\mu}A/cm^{2}$ and a maximum power density of $270nW/cm^{2}$. In this study, we improve on the previous results by using carbon micro electromechanical systems (C-MEMS), formed from the pyrolysis of patterned photoresist, to fabricate carbon electrodes of an arbitrary shape and controlled porosity to increase the surface area. With these new C-MEMS electrodes, the maximum power density of the micro-DPBFC was $516nW/cm^{2}$, a performance twice as good as the results of our previous work.

직접 수소화붕소나트륨/과산화수소 연료전지를 위한 니켈 기반 촉매 (Nickel-Based Catalysts for Direct Borohydride/Hydrogen Peroxide Fuel Cell)

  • Nickel-based bimetallic catalysts were investigated for use in direct borohydride/hydrogen peroxide fuel cells. For anode and cathode, PdNi and AuNi catalysts were used, respectively. Nickel-based bimetallic catalysts have been investigated through various methods, such as inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersive spectroscopy. The performance of the catalysts was evaluated through fuel cell tests. The maximum power density of the fuel cell with nickel-based bimetallic catalysts was found to be higher than that of the fuel cell with the monometallic catalysts. The nickel-based bimetallic catalysts also exhibited a stable performance up to 60 minutes.

  • 본 연구에서는 직접 탄소 연료전지(DCFC)에서 세 종류의 탄화수소(메탄, 에탄, 프로판) 열분해를 이용하여 다공성 니켈 연료극에 탄소를 직접 생성시켜 연료극과 연료간의 물리적 접촉을 향상시켰다. 전자현미경으로 각각의 탄화수소로부터 생성된 탄소 입자들이 탄소 수가 증가함에 따라 각각 탄소구형체(CS), 탄소나노튜브(CNT), 탄소나노섬유(CNF)임을 확인하였다. 그리고 탄소 샘플들의 결정성을 알아보기 위해 라만 산란 분석을 수행하였고, 탄화수소의 탄소 수가 증가할수록 생성된 탄소의 결정성이 떨어지고 더 유연하였다. 동일한 질량의 탄소로 채워진 연료극의 DCFC 성능을 $700^{\circ}C$ 에서 측정하였고, CNT 와 CNF 가 CS 보다 반응성이 좋아 각각 148%, 210% 높은 전력밀도를 보였다. 이는 결정성이 떨어지는 CNT 와 CNF 의 낮은 전하전달저항에 의한 것으로 사료된다.

Preparation and Characterization of MWCNT-g-Poly (Aniline-co-DABSA)/Nafion® Nanocomposite Membranes for Direct Methanol Fuel Cells

  • Multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)-g-poly (aniline-co-2,5-diaminobenzenesulfonic acid) (DABSA) reinforced Nafion$^{(R)}$ nanocomposite membranes were prepared and characterized for direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs). The nanocomposite membranes with approximately $90{\mu}m$ thickness were prepared by the water assisted solution casting method. To evaluate the properties of nanocomposite membranes for DMFC applications, the nanocomposite membranes were characterized by methanol and water uptake, thermal stability, and ion exchange capacity (IEC). Furthermore, oxidative stability measurements in terms of the hydrogen peroxide decomposition rate that represent the oxidative stability of the membranes were examined. The methanol uptake values of the nanocomposite membranes were dramatically decreased compared to the cast Nafion$^{(R)}$ membranes. The IEC values of the nanocomposite membranes were increased about 30% compared to the cast Nafion$^{(R)}$ membrane.

  • Performance of 20-cell stack for direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) was tested at constant temperature. Electrode evaluation used to the stack was tested by the performance of a single cell. A new composite electrode prepared from active carbon cloth and high porous active carbon was developed for hydrophilic layer of the cell. Characteristics of a single cell using the composite electrode showed the current density of $500mA/cm^2$ at the cell voltage of 0.4V at $120^{\circ}C$. For the operating of 20 days. the cell voltage at constant cell current densty of $100mA/cm^2$ was slightly reduced from 0.62V to 0.53V with the cell voltage decay rate of 14.5%. Power of 20-cell stack at 5.3V, $100^{\circ}C$ was about 180W.

  • MWNT(CNTs)를 지지체로 촉매를 합성하고 특성평가를 진행하였다. $Pt/Au/TiO_2$는 CNTs(cabon 나노 튜브) 탄소 지지체에 첨가되어 직접 메탄올 연료 전지의 성능을 개선하였다. XRD와 SEM을 통해 아나타제 $TiO_2$와 Pt/Au를 확인하였고 각각의 입자 사이즈는 200 nm와 20${\sim}$25 nm 이다. 혼성 촉매의 활성은 CV를 통해 측정되었으며 제조된 촉매는 연료전지 이용에 유망하다.
