  • In this paper. we propose the bias compensation methods and the eigenvoice method using the mean of dimensional eigenvoice to improve the performance of rapid speaker adaptation based on eigenvoice under mismatch between training and test environment. Experimental results for vocabulary-independent word recognition task (using PBW 452 DB) show that the proposed methods yield improvements for small adaptation data. We obtained about 22∼30% relative improvement by the bias compensation methods as amount of adaptation data varied from 1 to 50, and obtained 41% relative improvement in error rate by the eigenvoice method using the mean of dimensional eigenvoice with only single adaptation word.

  • In holographic data storage systems, data is recorded and read by page on a volume of storage medium, and it can increase transmission rate and storage capacity because of two-dimensional page-oriented data processing by charge-coupled devices. However, HDS suffers two-dimensional intersymbol interference unlike conventional data storages. In this paper, we propose a preprocessing method of decreasing ISI before read data in HDS pass to detector. This method has some advantage when we collaborate with the preprocessing for reducing misalignment error and modulation code.

  • We investigate the bit error rate against signal-to-noise ratio performance corresponding to track mis-registration for patterned media storage. The patterned media channels with and without soft underlayer are implemented, and we simulate using one-dimensional Viterbi detector and two-dimensional soft output Viterbi detector (SOVA) when the track mis-registration is 0% (on-track), 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40%. While the BER performance degrades approximate 0.3 ~ 0.5 dB at 10% track mis-registration, it degrades severe over 10% track mis-registration.

  • Adaptive mesh refinement scheme is incorporated with the Boundary Element Method (BEM) in order to get accurate solution with relatively fewer unknowns for the case of magnetostatic field analysis and A new and simple posteriori local error estimation method is presented. The local error is defined as integration over the element of the difference between solutions acquired us ing second order and first order interpolation function and is used as the criterion for mesh refinement at given grid. Case study for two dimensional problems with singular point reveals that meshes are concentrated on the neighbor of singular point and the error is decreased gradually and the solutions calculated on the domain are converged to the analytic solution as the number of unknowns increases. The adaptive mesh gives much better rate of convergence in global errors than the uniform mesh.

  • Since holographic data storage has the advantage of high recording density and data transfer rate, it is a candidate for the next generation storage systems. However, Holographic data storage system is affected by interpage interference and two dimensional intersymbol interference. Also, burst error occurs by physical impact. In this paper, we propose an LDPC product code using modified log-likelihood ratio and extrinsic information to correct burst error and improve performance of holographic data storage. The performance of proposed LDPC product code is 0.5dB better than that of the conventional LDPC code.

  • The main purpose of this study is to fit catch-per-unit-effort (CPUE) data about Korea chub mackerel (Scomber japonicus) stock with a state-space production (SSP) model, and to provide stock assessment results. We chose a surplus production model for the chub mackerel data, namely annual yield and CPUE. Then we employed a state-space layer for a production model to consider two sources of variability arising from unmodelled factors (process error) and noise in the data (observation error). We implemented the model via script software ADMB-RE because it reduces the computational cost of high-dimensional integration and provides Markov Chain Monte Carlo sampling, which is required for Bayesian approaches. To stabilize the numerical optimization, we considered prior distributions for model parameters. Applying the SSP model to data collected from commercial fisheries from 1999 to 2017, we estimated model parameters and management references, as well as uncertainties for the estimates. We also applied various production models and showed parameter estimates and goodness of fit statistics to compare the model performance. This study presents two significant findings. First, we concluded that the stock has been overexploited in terms of harvest rate from 1999 to 2017. Second, we suggest a SSP model for the smallest goodness of fit statistics among several production models, especially for fitting CPUE data with fluctuations.

  • One method for image recognition is template matching. In conventional template matching, the block matching algorithm (BMA) is performed while changing the two-dimensional translational displacement of the template within a given matching image. The template size and shape do not change during the BMA. Since only two-dimensional translational displacement is considered, the success rate decreases if the size and direction of the object do not match in the template and the matching image. In this paper, a variable is added to adjust the two-dimensional direction and size of the template, and the optimal value of the variable is automatically calculated in the block corresponding to each two-dimensional translational displacement. Using the calculated optimal value, the template is automatically transformed into an optimal template for each block. The matching error value of each block is then calculated based on the automatically deformed template. Therefore, a more stable result can be obtained for the difference in direction and size. For ease of use, this study focuses on designing the algorithm in a closed form that does not require additional information beyond the template image, such as distance information.

  • This paper handles synthesis and investigation of a neural network guidance law based on pursuit-evasion games. This work considers two-dimensional pursuit-evasion games solved by using the gradient method. The procedure of developing a guidance law from the game-optimal solutions is deeply examined, and important features of the neural network guidance are investigated. The proposed neural network guidance law takes the range, range rate, line-of-sight rate, and heading error as its input variables. By reconstructing the trajectory, the accuracy of the neural network approximation is verified. Afterwards, robustness of the neural network guidance to the autopilot lag, which results from its feedback structure, is investigated ...

  • In the next generation wireless communication systems, an energy harvesting from radio frequency signals is considered as a method to solve the lack of power supply problem for sensors. In this paper, we try to propose an efficient algorithm for simultaneous wireless information and power transfer in energy harvesting networks with channel estimation error. At first, we find an optimal channel training interval using one-dimensional exhaustive search, and estimate a channel using MMSE channel estimator. Based on the estimated channel, we propose a power allocation and splitting algorithm for maximizing the data rate while guaranteeing the minimum required harvested energy constraint, The simulation results confirm that the proposed algorithm has an insignificant performance degradation less than 10%, compared with the optimal scheme which assumes a perfect channel estimation, but it can improve the data rate by more than 20%, compared to the conventional scheme.

  • In this paper, we consider a representative integral imaging method in glasses-free 3D image processing and propose a prioritized transmission scheme for guaranteeing a received video quality in error-prone environments. According to the correlation of pixels consisting of each voxel of integral image, we set the priority differently and apply the modulation level according to this priority value. That is to say, the corresponding pixels with small variance are set to a high priority and transmitted by using a low level modulation that is robust under transmission errors, but the corresponding pixels with greater variance are set to a lower priority and transmitted by using a high level modulation that has a high bit error rate but fast transmission rate. Result shows that the proposed scheme that applies the error-robust modulation level to the important image bit stream with the high priority improves the peak to sidelobe ratio (PSR) of the received 3D image, compared with a typical method that use the same modulation level without distinction of priorities.
