  • Chaff is one of important devices for heliborne protection from radars and missiles. When we use a chaff for heliborne protection, J/S(jamming signal of chaff vs reflected signal from heliborne) is important factor to analyze a heliborne survive. When the radial angle between missile and heliborne is changed, J/S of missile receiver is changed and jamming effectiveness of chaff is also changed. We calculate the RCS of chaff and heliborne, and compare the returned signals in a half power beam width of receiver antenna. We analyze chaff dispense modes and specially simulate the effectiveness of a dilution mode chaff between missile and heliborne.

  • The relationship between GMA welding conditions and the bead shape of overlay weld was studied by using ${\Phi}1.6mm$ hypo-eutectic metal-cored wire designed for hardfacing against the severe metal-to-metal wear. As the welding voltage increased, the dilution also increased but the sudden drop of dilution was observed at $30{\sim}33V$. It was considered to be due to the decrease of penetration resulting from the change of transfer mode, from short circuit to spray. It was also found that the behavior of penetration with welding current was dependant on the transfer mode. The short circuit mode exerted the penetration to decrease while the spray mode did it to increase with increase of welding current. The former was considered to be responsible for the remarkable decrease in dilution at low welding voltage region. The change of transfer mode also had an effect on the behavior of bead width with welding current but it did not on the bead spreadability defined as W/H ratio. It was considered that the optimal welding conditions for multi-pass overlay welding could be obtained from the bead spreadability suitable for bead lapping and the dilution as low as possible in the spray transfer mode.

  • Erosion is a common failure mode of materials frequently encountered in plant and power industry. Although the erosion resistance of Fe-base alloy has been inferior to the other expensive materials, it is expected that the strain-induced martensitic transformation can impart high erosion resistance to Fe-base alloy. The key technology to develop Fe-base metal cored welding wire for erosion resistant overlay welding may include the strain-induced metallurgy for hardening rate control and the welding flux metallurgy for dilution control. Sophisticated studies showed that the strain-induced martensitic transformation behavior was related to the critical strain energy which was dependent on the alloy composition. Dilution and bead shape of overlay weld were proved to be affected by metal transfer mode during gas tungsten arc welding and elements in welding fluxes. It was considered that the highly erosion resistant Fe-base overlay weld could be achieved by precise control of alloy composition to have proper level of critical strain energy for energy absorption and welding flux formulation to have small amount of deoxidizing metallic elements for dilution.

  • In this study, an integrated boration and dilution (INBAD) model is proposed to predict the required makeup flowrate for RCS boron concentration change and to analyze the boron concentration behavior at each subsystem within the RCS including CVCS during boration and dilution operation. The INBAD model is constructed by integrating an existing neutronic code and a boration and dilution model. The boration and dilution model has been developed for our specific purpose using the one-cell model and multi-cell model. In addition, in order to assess the boron concentration behavior more realistically, two important features such as variable pressurizer heater output and optional makeup mode (either direct or indirect injection) are implemented in this model. In order to demonstrate the usefulness of this model, the boron concentration behavior analysis at each subsystem were performed for both direct and indirect injection mode using YGN 3 and 4 design data. Also, the effect of pressurizer heater output on the primary loop boron concentration was investigated. The results showed that the boron concentration changes can be predicted accurately at each subsystem during boration and dilution operation.

  • Recently, the nano-PM's number concentration emitted by diesel internal combustion engine has focused on attention because this particulate matters are suspected being hazardous of human health. In this study, The nano-PM mass and size of diesel passenger vehicles were measured on chassis dynamometer test bench. The particulate matters(PM) emissions of these vehicles were investigated by number concentration too. A condensation particle counter(CPC) system was applied to measure the particle number and size concentration of diesel exhaust particles at the end of dilution tunnel along the NEDC(ECE15+EUDC) and CVS-75 vehicle test mode. As the research result, the characteristic of vehicle test mode on the diesel nano-particle number and size distribution was investigated in this study.

  • Saccharin is a commonly used artificial sweetener in foodstuffs. However, for its carcinogenic dispute, it has been regulated by government bodies. In this study, isotope dilution mass spectrometry (ID-MS) was introduced for the accurate quantification of saccharin. To employ ID-LC/MS, we obtained its isotope analogue, $^{13}C_1$-sodium saccharin, by customized synthesis. Samples were spiked with $^{13}C_1$-sodium saccharin and analyzed with LC/MS in negative mode. Chromatographic conditions were optimized for the adequate chromatographic retention and separation of saccharin with a $C_{18}$ column. MS was operated with electrospray ionization by the selected ion monitoring (SIM) mode of $[M-H]^-$ for saccharin (m/z 182) and $[M-Na]^-$ for its isotope analogue (m/z 183). To validate the ID-LC/MS method for accurate measurement, we prepared a batch of a candidate material by sortifying quasi-tea-drinks with saccharin and analyzed samples gravimetrically fortified in various levels of concentration. The repeatability and reproducibility of this method was tested by analyzing the reference material. Result show that ID-LC/MS is a reliable method for the quantitative analysis of saccharin.

  • Characteristics of $CO_2$ fixation by Chlorella sp. HA-1 were studied in a semi-continuous mode in a series operation. A high $CO_2$ fixation rate for a long time was obtained, when the method of semi-continuous mode was employed, in which the controlling parameter was the dilution ratio. A constant $CO_2$ fixation rate was maintained even when the dilution ratio was increased with the increment of 0.1 at the initial value of 0.5. The method of series operation was used to improve the efficiency of $CO_2$ fixation. The total amount of $CO_2$ fixation was proportion to the number of reactor in series operation.

  • The potential use of spin filter device to retain Propionibacterium acidipropionici in the bioreactor under continuous mode of fermentation, and improve acid productivity, was examined. The yield of propionic acid based on lactose concentration was 51% in batch and 54% in continuous (dilution rate = 0.05 h(sup)-1) operation. The yield in continuous fermentation with cell retention using spin filter of 10 micron size (dilution rate = 0.05 h(sup)-1) was even higher at 70% (w/w). The volumetric productivity under batch and continuous mode of operation were 0.312g L(sup)-1 h(sup)-1 and 0.718g L(sup)-1 h(sup)-1 respectively. Continuous fermentation with cell retention demonstrated even higher volumetric productivities at 0.98g L(sup)-1 h(sup)-1 with out clogging problems. It could be used for utilization of cheese whey to produce propionic acid at higher yield and productivities.

  • A quantitation method for free amino acids in human serum was developed using a stepwise-dilution method and a bimodal cation exchange (CEX)/hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC)-tandem mass spectrometry system equipped with an electrospray ionization source (ESI/MS/MS). This method, which was validated using quality control samples, was optimized for enhanced selectivity and sensitivity. Dithiothreitol (DTT) was used as a reducing agent to prevent the oxidation of a serum sample ($50{\mu}L$), which was then subjected to stepwise dilution using 3, 30, and 90 volumes of acetonitrile containing 0.1% formic acid. Chromatographic separation was performed on an Imtakt Intrada Amino Acid column ($50mm{\times}3mm$, $3{\mu}m$) in mixed mode packed with CEX and HILIC ligands embedded in the stationary phase. Underivatized free amino acids were eluted and separated within 10 min. As a result of the validation, the precision and accuracy for the inter- and intraday assays were determined as 2.11-11.51% and 92.82-109.40%, respectively. The lowest limit of quantification (LLOQ) was $0.5-4.0{\mu}g/mL$ and the matrix effect was 80.22-115.93%. The proposed method was successfully applied to the quantitative analysis of free amino acids in human serum.

  • Recombinant Pseudomonas lipase was used to study protein aggregation and adsorption upon in vitro refolding. Protein adsorption as well as aggregation was responsible for major side reactions upon in vitro refolding as a function of protein concentration. The optimal range of protein concentration was determined by the relative contribution of protein aggregation and adsorption. Above the optimal range, the yield of active lipase inversely correlated with protein aggregation, showing a competition between folding and aggregation. However, adsorption of protein rather than protein aggregation is thought to contribute as a major side reaction of the refolding process at sub-optimal concentrations at which the formation of aggregates should be more reduced. Protein aggregation was influenced by the amount of guanidine hydrochloride in the refolding solvent. The refolding temperature was a critical factor determining the extent of protein aggregation. The refolding yield was also affected by the dilution fold and dilution mode, which suggests that the refolding process might kinetically compete with the rate of mixing.
