  • A microcontroller-based DC motor control system for a total artificial heart(TAH) was developed. Using a one-chip microcontroller, 87Cl96KB, the design of digital motor speed control system and servo control system is demonstrated. Functionally, the control system consists of a position control unit, a speed control unit, and a communication unit. The performance and the reliability of the developed control system were assessed through a series of mock circulation system experiments.

Follicular Unit Classification Method Using Angle Variation of Boundary Vector for Automatic Hair Implant System

  • This paper presents a novel follicular unit (FU) classification method based on an angle variation of a boundary vector according to the number of hairs in several FU images. The recently developed robotic FU harvest system, ARTAS, classifies through digital imaging the FU type based on the number of hairs with defects in the contour and outline profile of the FU of interest. However, this method has a drawback in that the FU classification is inaccurate because it causes unintended defects in the outline profile of the FU. To overcome this drawback, the proposed method classifies the FU's type by the number of variation points that are calculated using an angle variation a boundary vector. The experimental results show that the proposed method is robust and accurate for various FU shapes, compared to the contour-outline profile FU classification method of the ARTAS system.

  • 점점 더 가속화하고 있는 이동통신 기술의 진보에서 비롯된 통신 환경의 변화는 폭증하는 데이터 트래픽에 대한 효율적인 관리 제어를 요구하고 있으며, 이러한 요구에 대응한 다양한 방식의 시스템들이 개발되고 있다. 이 중에서 RU(Radio Unit)와 DU(Digital Unit)의 분리 및 관련 기술의 고도화는 이동통신 시스템 환경 구축의 효율성과 유연성을 제고하는 신기술 방식으로 자리 잡고 있다. 본 고에서는 RF 처리부를 소형 모듈화한 RF 단위모듈을 이용하여 RU를 구현함으로써, 다양한 용량과 서비스 영역을 제공할 수 있는 기지국 솔루션 개발현황을 소개하고자 한다.

Efficient Algorithms for Approximating the Centroids of Monotone Directions in a Polyhedron

  • We present efficient algorithms for computing centroid directions for each of the three types of monotonicity in a polyhedron: strong, weak, and directional monotonicity, which can be used for optimizing directions in many 3D manufacturing processes. Strongly- and directionally-monotone directions are the poles of great circles separating a set of spherical polygons on the unit sphere, the centroids of which are shown to be obtained by applying the previous result for determining the maximum intersection of the set of their dual spherical polygons. Especially in this paper, we focus on developing an efficient method for approximating the weakly-monotone centroid, which is the pole of one of the great circles intersecting a set of spherical polygons on the unit sphere. The original problem is approximately reduced into computing the intersection of great bands for avoiding complicated computational complexity of non-convex objects on the unit sphere, which can be realized with practical linear-time operations.

  • A fiber optic intrusion sensor system using the variations of speckle patterns was developed. The intrusion sensor system consisted of an analog unit, a digital control unit, and a DSP unit. Some experiments were carried out using a 500 m length optical fiber sensor. The system detected intruders without missing, and distinguished between cars and persons. When the intruders were cars, the discrimination probability was 100% and when the intruders were persons, the discrimination probability was 90%.

  • This paper presents a multiple gain controlled digital phase and frequency detector with a fast lock-time. Lock-time of the digital PLL can be significantly reduced by applying proposed adaptive gain control technique. A loop gain of the proposed digital PLL is controlled by three conditions that are very large phase difference between reference and feedback signal, small phase difference and before lock-state, and after lock-state. The simulation result shows that lock-time of the proposed multiple gain controlled digital PLL is 100 times faster than that of the conventional structure with unit gain mode.

  • In information society, Convergence was combined with a word 'digital'. Digital convergence means a service or new product which appeared through fusion of unit technologies in information and communication regions. The effects of convergence technologies and social phenomenons are visualized in overall regions of society such as economy, society, culture, etc. Nowadays, manufacturing field are facing new challenges, through digital information and global integration, toward sophisticated production. This paper presents the system configuration and issues of current manufacturing execution system(MES), and describes major issues and solving elements to establish a MES system for cloud services. Also, we propose a method for building a manufacturing information system to have the optimized production flow and to respond appropriately to consumer market.

  • In order to access digital items in a server via ubiquitous devices, the digital items should be adapted according to the system environment, device characteristics and user preferences. In ubiquitous environment, those device-dependent adaptation requirements are not statically determined and not predictable. Therefore an application specific adaptation mechanism can not be applied to a general digital item adaptation engine. In this paper, we propose an application independent digital item adaptation architecture which has a set of minimal transcoders, transcoding path generator for a required adaptation requirement, and adaptation scheduler. And a CFG based method of finding a sequence of multiple unit transcoders called a transcoding path Is described in detail followed by experimental results.

  • This study is to carry out meta-analysis on doctoral dissertations which had been written after 2004 when the empirical analysis about digital politics had begun. This study aims to identify tendency of recent analysis. For this purpose, it classifies the research trends of digital politics as political participation, political process, political advertising and election campaigns, and examines the researcher's definition, framework of empirical analysis, and all the results. Moreover, the study systematically summarizes the research model, analysis unit, concept and its components in order to ensure availablity so that the information could be available for the further research.

  • In 2011, Government introduced "IT Convergence Technology Prediction Survey 2025". This report includes 10 ICT industries. Convergence was combined with a word 'digital'. Digital convergence means a service or new product which appeared through fusion of unit technologies in information and communication regions. The effects of convergence technologies and social phenomenons are visualized in overall regions of society such as economy, society, culture, etc. In this paper, we described a prospects and technologies needed in digital convergence environment. And we described IT-Building, IT-Car, IT-Medicine, IT-Textile which was related with our lives in today among 10 ICT industries.
