Improvement of Elementary English Digital Textbook Design (초등학교 3학년 영어 디지털 교과서의 디자인 연구)

  • This research comes from the premise that a student-oriented English digital textbook's design should be age appropriate. Our study is intended for third-year elementary students, since that age is the onset of English education within the Korean national curriculum. Our proposal focuses on this age's need for concrete information. Three popular textbooks' designs were analyzed using Cress's "Grammar Flame of Visual Design [Cress 2006]," and the results reflected in our modified book design. Via two case studies, a focus group interview, questionnaire, and observation analysis, we learned that the design of an age-appropriate digital English textbook changes the effectiveness of the education. An age-appropriate modified digital English textbook improves student satisfaction and interest. Our research proposes a systematic textbook design guide for age-specific preferences and characteristics.

  • In this study, a digital textbook was developed for effective career and vocational education of students with disabilities. The contents of developed digital textbook consisted of 'lesson 15: Sale(1)' of middle school career and vocational education of basic curriculum. It progresses six periods and each topic activities are composed of open learning, learning activity 1, learning activity 2, and organized learning in order. NamoPubTreeEditor Program was used to develop the text book in the study, digital textbooks were designed to be compatible with various devices including smartphone of android operating system, Tablet PC, the iOS system, iphone, ipad, etc. In addition, it was designed to offer a variety of learning materials such as sale multimedia materials, glossary, evaluation questions, and linked data related to sale, supported self-motivated learning. allowed students to evaluate their study for the learning of students with disabilities.

A Study on Digital Reference Services in an Educational Research Library: Focusing on Types of Questions Among Subareas of Education (교육학분야 전문도서관에서 제공되는 디지털참고정보서비스에 관한 연구 - 하위주제영역별 이용자의 질문유형을 중심으로 -)

  • This study attempted to investigate users' information needs in an educational research library, which delivers web-based digital reference services to library users, by analyzing reference questions asked by remote users. A total of 242 questions from two electronic bulletin boards was examined in terms of 6 types of questions asked and 23 subareas of education. The study found that 56.1% of reference questions on the library bulletin board were pure reference questions in curriculum, textbooks and teaching & instruction. Suggestions for effective use of digital reference services were made: easy access to menu services, use of web forms, development of digital reference systems providing search functions and response functions.

  • The article proves that the main goal of informatization of higher education institutions in the EU countries is to improve the quality of education of future specialists by introducing digital educational resources into the education process. The main tasks of informatization of education are defined. Digital educational resources are interpreted as a set of data in digital form that is applicable for use in the learning process; it is an information source containing graphic, text, digital, speech, music, video, photo and other information aimed at implementing the goals and objectives of modern education; educational resources on the Internet, electronic textbooks, educational programs, electronic libraries, etc. The creation of digital educational resources is defined as one of the main directions of informatization of all forms and levels of Education. Types of digital educational resources by educational functions are considered. The factors that determine the effectiveness of using digital educational resources in the educational process are identified. The use of digital educational resources in the training of future specialists in the EU countries is considered in detail. European countries note that digital educational resources in professional use allow you to implement a fundamentally new approach to teaching and education, which is based on broad communication, free exchange of opinions, ideas, information of participants in a joint project, on a completely natural desire to learn new things, expand their horizons; is based on real research methods (scientific or creative laboratories), allowing you to learn the laws of nature, the basics of techniques, technology, social phenomena in their dynamics, in the process of solving vital problems, features of various types of creativity in the process of joint activities of a group of participants; promotes the acquisition by teachers of various related skills that can be very useful in their professional activities, including the skills of using computer equipment and various digital technologies.

  • In this study, we research an analysis of learner competency with students in 16 smart education research schools. The result of analysis, 2-year students showed a highly regarded competences which are the learner competencies in all areas than 1-year students. And the urban students was higher than rural students. This means that urban students have higher awareness of the learner competencies than rural students. Lastly, in a comprehensive analysis of each school year, the statistical differences between elementary and middle school did not appear. However, in the elementary, middle and high school between the difference was statistically.

Error Analysis of Writing in Elementary School Students (초등학생 작문 실태 분석 -낱말 형태 오류를 중심으로)

  • This study is the analysis of the form of the word appeared in the sixth grade of elementary school students' writing errors. The major findings of this study are as follows. 14532 words appeared, the average is 145.3. And 1903 sentences, and average 19.0 papers. On average, one sentence have consisted of 7.6 word. Second, the 69 people out of 100 had an error. This is serious. Because this study contains very basic contents. Third, the order of errors are abbreviations(33.09%), endings(27.70%), etc(19.78%), stems(19.42%). The results of this study can contribute to revise a elementary school textbooks. And the results of this study can contribute to select the contents of elementary spelling teaching.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the features of inquiry activities using technology in the 2015 revised elementary science digital textbooks. For this, we analyzed the features of inquiry context and inquiry method presented in inquiry activities using three kinds of technology: Virtual experiment, virtual reality and augmented reality. As a result, firstly, the most common types of 77 inquiry activities were realistic type which shows the phenomenon actually and vividly as possible and realistic-abstract type which shows the phenomena with the abstract concepts. Second, the ways of using three technologies were different depending on the processes of inquiry and the sub-domains of science. For example, virtual experiment technologies were mostly used in the contents of physics and chemistry with the inquiry context of realistic-abstract type for investigating the relationship between variables of experiments and describing the phenomena mechanically. On the other hand, virtual reality and augmented reality techniques tended to be used more frequently in biology and earth science contents with the inquiry context of realistic type for observing and describing the phenomena. Finally, we discussed educational implications in terms of developing and applying technology-based inquiry activities.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine acceptance factors that affect the intention to use digital textbook. The results are as follow. First, the quality characteristic factor has significant effects on the ease of use, the usefulness of use, and the intention of use. Second, the ease of use appeared to be a significant impact on the usefulness of the use. The usefulness of digital textbook appeared to be a significant impact on the intention of use. The results show that the quality characteristics consisted of six components: personalization, mobility, stability, accuracy, responsiveness, and accessibility. The results can suggest important implications for the development of digital textbook contents and system.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze mathematical storytelling in Korean elementary mathematics textbooks and propose some applications for better storytelling, Storytelling strategies were introduced for enhancing students' understanding on mathematical concepts and improving students' attitudes toward mathematics. For this study, the researcher analyzed the 2nd grade mathematics textbook that employs storytelling strategies. The results are as follows. First, current storytelling textbook chapter is designed to appreciate students' intellectual autonomy. Second, current storytelling textbook chapter includes the storytelling that helps understand mathematical concepts and exercise mathematical skills. Third, current storytelling textbook chapter is designed for enhancing students' interest and helping students' character education. The researcher suggested the followings. First, a long term field-based research should be continued for more improved mathematical storytelling materials. Second, a digital format storytelling also needs to be developed as an alternative strategy of mathematical storytelling, which reinforces interactions between teller and listeners.

  • The purpose of this study is to construct contents of elementary and secondary education which will be included in the information literacy education and to obtain basic information and implications necessary for developing new textbooks. For this study, three types of previously developed textbooks for information literacy education were analyzed, and curriculum content structure, and textbook structure of the draft version of the textbook 'Media and Information Life' developed in 2019-2020 were analyzed. The analysis results are as follows. the information literacy education textbook applied the information problem solving process model and contained the contents of print, and digital media and the media literacy necessary for democratic citizens, but it was necessary to add the types of libraries and media in sequence. Second, library, media, information, and reading literacy were major learning elements that made up the contents of the information literacy curriculum. Third, the "media and information life" textbook needed to present subject competencies, generalized knowledge, content system, and achievement standards in accordance with the system of the 2015 revised curriculum. In addition, social discussion was needed to derive the name of the information literacy curriculum.
