Preference-based User Interface Model for Personalized EPG (개인화된 전자프로그램가이드를 위한 선호도 기반의 사용자 인터페이스 모델)

  • 본 논문은 개인별 프로그램 선호도와 채널 선호도를 기반으로 프로그램을 추천해주는 선호프로그램편성표를 구성하여 이를 효과적으로 보여주는 사용자인터페이스(UI) 모델을 제안한다. 현재 개인 맞춤화 전자프로그램가이드(PEPG)에 대한 다양한 연구가 이루어지고 있으나 주로 추천 알고리즘 연구에 그 초점이 맞춰져 있는 실정이다. 동일한 추천 알고리즘에 의해 추출된 프로그램이라 할지라도 정렬 순서와 디스플레이 방법에 따라 편성표를 이용하는 사용자의 용이성이 달라질 수 있다. 이에 본 논문은 추천 알고리즘에 의해 추출된 프로그램들의 선호도에 현재시간 기준으로 가중치를 부과하여 그 프로그램들의 선호도를 합산한 값으로 정렬한 편성표를 구성하였다. 이러한 선호프로그램편성표는 시청자가 가장 선호하는 프로그램과 채널이 최우선으로 보여지게 되므로 쉽고 빠르게 원하는 프로그램을 찾아갈 수 있다는 장점이 있다. 따라서, 사용자는 원하는 프로그램이 시작할 때까지 기다리거나 하는 시간의 낭비없이 시청이 가능하다. 본 논문을 통해 향후 등장하게 될 많은 개인 맞춤화된 서비스들을 개발하는데 도움이 될 수 있길 바란다.

  • 본 논문은 시청자가 TV를 시청하다가 마음에 드는 화면이 있으면, 이를 캡춰해서 친구들에게 메시지로 보내는 서비스를 구현하는 방법을 기술한다. 이를 위해서는 셋톱박스에서 실행되는 Xlet 애플리케이션에서 비디오 스트림의 특정화면을 캡춰할 수 있어야 하는데, 현재 미들웨어는 이런 기능을 제공하고 있지 않다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 Xlet application 에서 시청자가 지정한 화면의 시점값을 방송국 서버로 전송하고, 서버에서 해당 화면을 캡춰하여 이를 시청자가 원하는 수신자에게 보내주는 방법을 사용한다. 미들웨어 API 표준에서 현재의 NPT (Normal Play Time) 을 알려주는 API 를 제공하므로, 애플리케이션에서 시청자가 원하는 시점의 NPT 를 구해 이를 방송국 서버로 보내고, 서버에서는 이 NPT 에 해당되는 동영상의 미디어 타임을 구해, 그 시간에 해당되는 프레임을 계산하여 화면을 캡춰한다. 본 기술을 활용하면 서버에서 캡춰된 화면을 Mobile, Web 등의 매체에도 전송할 수 있으므로 유무선통합, 방통융합형 서비스로 확장해 나갈 수 있다.

  • This paper design QHA(quadrifilar helical antenna) to receive efficiently Satellite-Digital Multimedia Broadcasting video signal. It is designed as quadrifilar structure with phase variation $0^{\circ}C$, $90^{\circ}C$, $180^{\circ}C$, $270^{\circ}C$ to obtain circular polarization. Upper gap, turn number and height of QHA are varied to obtain optimization dimensions. Optimization dimensions are gap=2.2mm, turn number=0.9, height=42mm and input reflection coefficient is approximately -5.8dB. Designed QHA can be applied to Satellite-DMB terminal.

  • 본 논문에서는 정밀한 3차원 복원 및 시점 합성을 위해 매칭 비용을 반복적으로 업데이트하는 Generalized Soft 3D Reconstruction (GenSoft3D) 알고리즘을 제안한다. 먼저 다시점 영상들과 카메라 자세정보가 주어지면 GenSoft3D는 볼륨 기반의 다시점 스테레오 매칭 알고리즘으로 시점별 초기 매칭 비용 볼륨 및 시차 맵을 계산한다. 그 후 정제 과정에서 각 시점은 모든 시차 맵을 이용하여 표면 확률 및 가시 확률을 계산한다. 표면 확률은 초기 매칭 비용 업데이트에 사용하며, 가시 확률은 폐색 영역의 정확한 시차를 계산하기 위해 사용된다. 해당 정제 과정을 일정 횟수 반복할 경우 시점별 고정밀의 시차 맵 획득이 가능하다. 또한 시차 맵의 정확도가 향상됨에 따라 정확한 시점 합성이 가능하다.

  • Unlike traditional analog broadcasting, digital broadcasting provides users with various additional services that we have never seen before. To receive these kind of services. data broadcasting includes not only audio, video signal, but also additional data associated with the program. In this paper, we present the efficient parsing and caching mechianism for data carousel in digital broadcasting set-top box. In order to speed up the process of parsing, we use the Message Pool that stores elementary_pid syntax of DSM-CC message packets.

Scalable Extension of HEVC for Flexible High-Quality Digital Video Content Services

  • This paper describes the scalable extension of High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) to provide flexible high-quality digital video content services. The proposed scalable codec is designed on multi-loop decoding architecture to support inter-layer sample prediction and inter-layer motion parameter prediction. Inter-layer sample prediction is enabled by inserting the reconstructed picture of the reference layer (RL) into the decoded picture buffer of the enhancement layer (EL). To reduce the motion parameter redundancies between layers, the motion parameter of the RL is used as one of the candidates in merge mode and motion vector prediction in the EL. The proposed scalable extension can support scalabilities with minimum changes to the HEVC and provide average Bj${\o}$ntegaard delta bitrate gains of about 24% for spatial scalability and of about 21% for SNR scalability compared to simulcast coding with HEVC.

A Study on Users' Perception on the Reallocation of 700MHz Spectrum After Digital Transition of Terrestrial Broadcasting (지상파 방송의 디지털 전환 완료 이후 700MHz대역 주파수 재배치에 대한 이용자 인식 연구)

  • This study investigates the users' preference of frequency reallocation and frequency auction after digital transition of terrestrial broadcasting and it focuses on the relationships between media using pattern, reception environment of broadcasting telecommunication, and expectation for the universal service and requirement for the public interest. The results show that the longer DMB viewing hours, people prefer to frequency allocation for the telecommunication side. The technical aspects such as perception on the reception environment of broadcasting don't make effect on the users' preference of frequency allocation. In addition, the more people think the universal service of terrestrial broadcasting important, the more people think it unnecessary to adopt auction system to the broadcasting frequency. These results give implication that it is the most basic condition to improve the reception environment in order to accomplish universal service duty of terrestrial broadcasting.

  • Digital Broadcasting serves a variety of broadcasting services for satisfying the requirement of customers. One of main factors for new broadcasting environment is interoperability between providers and consumers. For this interoperability, metadata standards are proposed for the digital broadcasting and TV-Anytime metadata is one of these standards. On the one hand, there are some researches for efficiently managing the broadcasting metadata on Set-Top Box. This paper proposes the metadata management system for efficiently managing the broadcasting metadata based on the STB which is low-cost and low-setting. Our system consists of a storage engine to store the metadata and an XQuery engine to search the stored metadata and uses special index for storing and searching. We expect that our system will keep the interoperability amongst a variety of applications for broadcasting because we adopts the XQuery for searching the metadata and the XQuery is a standard language for searching XML data.

  • Today, each broadcasting station makes the best use of CG (computer Graphics), which is the latest technology in election broadcasting, and competes to attract the eyes of viewers. This paper investigated the history of CG technology and design transitions in election ballot counting broadcasts from the perspective of CG designers. From the 1980s, when computer-based election ballot counting began, to the full-scale use of virtual studios, the image and technology produced by CG while watching the ballot-counting broadcast video of general elections, presidential elections, and local elections. We analyzed the utilization from various angles. In Korea, we started with the EDDS (Election Data Display System) developed in-house, created a database using a computer, and introduced manual animation CG every day from that time. After that, broadcasting stations focused on diverse and gorgeous CG image competition, and CG images were expanded from 2D to 3D while technology and design developed together. From 1985 to 1992, Korean broadcasting can be seen as a transitional period in which the image changes due to the emphasis on information power while utilizing digital technology.

  • In this paper, we propose a prototype system of digital data broadcasting system based on the ATSC data broadcasting standard. This prototype system uses data piping as a mechanism for delivery of arbitrary user-defined data inserted directly into the payload part of the MPEG-2 Transport Stream packets. This data type includes URL or HTML content. After the contents are inserted into the MPEG-2 Transport Stream, they can be delivered through the broadcasting to the DTV set-top receiver. The 75 packets received in real-time during the TV broadcast are used to start display or switch content. This prototype system describes how to achieve common design goals and integrating digital TV and web pages based on the ATSC data broadcasting standard. The prototype system can be used to display digital data contents - HTML, images-on existing TV or digital TV set-tops.
