  • A digital archive is an online platform for preserving and utilizing digital records worthy of continued preservation. However, there are no shared standards for functionality, metadata, or data technical principles across digital archives in Korea. These issues create challenges in linking distributed digital records. This study proposes a common vocabulary for digital archives to enhance the interoperability of digital records and evaluates the interoperability of the digital archive built with the common vocabulary. We collect and analyze data from the digital archive on the Korean financial crisis of 1997 to construct a knowledge graph and compare its interoperability with the knowledge graph built with RiC-O. The archive and the knowledge graph underwent evaluation using the FAIR data principles evaluation framework. The constructed knowledge graph links various objects in the archive and provides contextual information to aid in understanding the archive. The results demonstrate that a knowledge graph built with a common vocabulary significantly improves the linkage, search, and interoperability of digital records compared to a traditional archive.

  • Recently, the exhibition industry based on digital archive has been rapidly growing and the industry sees an innovative change with diverse digital archive exhibition venues emerging. Enabling visitors to enjoy new and varied exhibition provides a turning point to the exhibition environment. In today's world where IT (Information Technology) leads social changes, new framework and contents are required to establish digital culture that connects traditional culture with advanced information telecommunications. The objective of this study is to identify factors that influence the audience in a digital archive exhibition venue and to analyze impacts of these factors on exhibition success based on immersion and satisfaction. The study presents a research model that applies significant variables of emotional response theory in which fundamental psychological desire of humans is emphasized. To empirically verify the research model, the author conducted a survey for students of S university in Seoul and for ordinary people who have been to digital archive exhibition venues.

  • The Reference Model for an Open Archival Information system(OAIS) was recommended for developing digital archives effectively and for implementing interoperability and resource sharing between digital archives. But as the Reference Model is high-level recommendation, it does not specify a design and an implementation. Therefore, this study investigates the architecture of several digital archives, suggestes three strategies for persistent archive, and proposes the conceptual model for developing trusted, persistent, and secure digital archive.

  • As the amount of information increases explosively with the development of society, the need for a digital archive has emerged in order to maintain information efficiently. There is a current standard of digital archive is OAIS(Open Archival Information System) reference model. OAIS reference model is mainly interested in long-term preservation and concerned about comprehensive content. This paper propose digital archive workflow that is used not only for long-term preservation but also for the efficient utilization with the image data. The OAIS reference model and the metadata standard should be added surge information to build a digital archive. Therefore we propose metadata model should be managed based on multi-level classes not only for effective digital image archive but also for utilization.

  • Recently, National Archives of Korea has planned to develop the Standard Archive Management System, to make it economical and efficient in accordance with the local archives establishments by Seoul Metropolitan City. Also, the institution signed the MOU with National Information Society Agency to set up a digital archive system and foster professional archival manpower. These movements are rooted on the current domestic demands for digital archive systems. Keeping pace with it, the purpose of this study is suggesting feasible ways to establish the sustainable and efficient archive systems. To this end, a status study on the existing digital archive systems at both domestic and overseas bases was carried out, with the many of open source software analysis. Based on the primary implications of this study, to implement the digital archive system, functional module deducting methods and an open source software application process on each module were designed. Financial, operational and technical considerations such as the links between modules are also considered.

For this purpose, we proposed cloud digital archive framework for traditional culture. Actually, cloud computing environment is one of new technology trend and would be a important keyword for information technology. This research focus on functional framework that is able to support service in cloud computing environment to connect pansori archive model, one of traditional culture. We also make a data structure and metadata by each characteristics, and insert a service framework to support pansori archive. This structure consists of data evaluation, preservation, and access process. This archive has a relation model with digital archive and metadata.

  • A collection policy (or a collection development policy) is a document that archival institutions must have to allow them to build their collections legitimately and consistently. Digital archives often lack sustainable financial and systematic supports. Thus, it is especially important for digital archives to have a policy for consistent collection activities. Digital archives have a different set of characteristics from physical records, and these characteristics should be considered in a collection policy. This study was initiated to create such a policy for the No Gun Ri Digital Archive. It reviewed existing literature for collection policies in archives and digital archives. Moreover, it examined several cases of digital archives and their policies to identify the necessary elements as well as the legal and procedural coverages for digital content and services. Furthermore, it studied the unique characteristics of the No Gun Ri incident and the No Gun Ri Digital Archive. Based on such investigation, a collection policy for the No Gun Ri Digital Archive was suggested. It is believed that suggesting a practical collection policy will provide a useful precedent for future digital archive projects.
