  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between effects of TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) and IFC(Interferrential Current Therapy) to the change of body surface temperature. Cases are 22 normal persons and 22 patients with low back pain. Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging system was used for the detection of body surface temperature. 50Hz in frequency and 25-35mA in intensity were applied to TENS and IFC, 15 and 10 minutes on each. The results were follows ; 1. TENS and IFC has on effect of decreasing surface temperature, which would be from cardiovascular factors. (P<0.001) 2. The influence of IFC to the body surface temperature is greater than TENS, and it seems to be vasoconstriction of sympathetic activity. 3. There were no significant differences of body surface temperature between the two groups before and after electrical stimulation.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine whether vasodilation occurs when interferential current is applied to the cervical sympathetic chain and peripheral sympathetic nerves. A digital thermometer was used to record skin temperature change. The protocols used for interferential stimulation were 90-100 Hz, applied for 20 minutes via two pairs of electrodes 1) to the throat and 2) to the forearm. Forty subjects were stimulated at each of the two sites. There was no significant correlation between inital skin temperature, sex or age and temperature change. Even though there was a statistically significant temperature increase with cervical sympathetic chain stimulation, this had no clinical vasodilatory effect. More research on interferential current stimulation is needed so that the potential benefits to normal subjects and patients is better understood.

  • Objective: The popularization of smartphones can lead to abnormal cervical alignment in university students. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship among smartphone screen time, cervical alignment, and muscle function in university students. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Seventy-five university students participated in the study. They completed the evaluation of cervical alignment and muscle function, such as handgrip strength, proprioception, and muscle quality (tone, stiffness, and relaxation time). All participants recorded their general characteristics and individual smartphone screen time before the evaluation. They were evaluated craniovertebral angle (CVA) using smartphone application (angle meter 360) for measuring cervical alignment. The muscle function was assessed using a digital hand-held dynamometer, dual inclinometer, and MyotonPRO device. Results: Of all participants, twenty-five university students had forward head posture (CVA<49°, 33.33%). Independent t-test revealed that there were significant differences on smartphone screen time, muscle stiffness, and muscle relaxation between the participants with and without forward head posture (p<0.05). There were significant correlations between the smartphone screen time and the CVA, muscle tone, and muscle relaxation (r=-0.493, 0.250, and -0.500, respectively). Conclusions: The results indicate that the university students with forward head posture had high smartphone screen time and muscle stiffness compared to the students without forward head posture, and smartphone screen time might be associated with cervical alignment and muscle quality.

  • Given the surge in the elderly population, and increasing in dementia cases, there is a growing interest in digital therapies that facilitate steady remote treatment. However, in the cognitive assessment of digital therapies through clinical trials, the absence of log data as an essential evaluation factor is a significant issue. To address this, we propose a solution of utilizing weighted derived variables based on high-importance variables' accuracy in log data utilization as an indirect cognitive assessment factor for digital therapies. We have validated the effectiveness of this approach using machine learning techniques such as XGBoost, LGBM, and CatBoost. Thus, we suggest the use of log data as a rapid and indirect cognitive evaluation factor for digital therapy users.
