  • The present study was aimed to investigate the effects of the application of pulsed electromagnetic fields on the blood components associated hyperlipidemia, antioxidant enzymes and reactive oxygen. The subjects were divided into three groups: General Diet, High fat Diet, High fat diet and pulsed electromagnetic fields. Pulsed electromagnetic field was applied with pulsed electromagnetic energy therapy equipment. The Glucose, free fatty acids, triglycerides, cholesterol and insulin was used to measure hyperlipidemia-related blood components, and the GSH, GRD, XO and MDA was used to measure antioxidant enzymes and reactive oxygen. The applied pulsed electromagnetic field has improved the concentrations of blood components and increasing GSH and GRD, that were decreased due to a high-fat diet and by reducing the increased MDA and XO to a level of general diet group. Therefore, the applied pulsed electromagnetic field can be the effective treatment for changes in the blood composition of hyperlipidemic rats, enhancement of antioxidative activity and the inhibition of reactive oxygen.

  • To identify virtual reality (VR) interventions used for upper extremity rehabilitation in stroke patients. The Medline database was searched up to February 11, 2015. Randomized controlled and clinical trials that included a VR intervention for upper extremity rehabilitation in stroke patients were included. The Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) scale was used to assess the quality of the included studies. In total, 8 studies were included. PEDro scores varied from 5 to 8/10. All studies showed significant improvement in outcomes in favor of the VR group. This review suggests that VR applications used for upper extremity rehabilitation in stroke patients predominantly mediate learning through providing task-oriented and graduated learning with variable and unpredictable practice.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the cultural perspectives and experiences relating to insulin therapy among the diabetes. The authors conducted four semi-structured focus groups and individual interviews with 19 adults with type 1 and 2 diabetes, focusing on the personal experiences and thoughts regarding insulin therapy. Patients' perspectives and experiences relating to taking insulin formed three categories of themes: preoccupations about insulin, barriers to taking insulin, and benefits to taking insulin. The theme for preoccupations about insulin was "vague fear," while the theme of barriers to taking insulin were "worrisome insulin-related issues", "ambivalent feelings (trust/mistrust) about healthcare providers," "dependent life," "feeling about supporters(family, friends, and religion)," "inconvenience," "regret about the past," and "embarrassment." The theme of benefits to taking insulin were "recognition" and "physical recovery and confidence in regulating blood glucose". Based on this study, patients' feelings about their insulin should be respected by healthcare providers.

  • This study was a literature review to investigate the trends and characteristics of music intervention studies on psychological support for children and adolescents from multicultural families. A total of 19 researches(13 theses and 6 articles) from 2009 to 2018 was reviewed through the selection and exclusion criteria. First, in the general characteristics, researches employing quasi-experimental design and those of one-group pre-post tests scored a higher ratio, and studies for children under the age of 13 also showed the highest percentage. Second, about the intervention characteristics, the goal mainly focussed on self-related factors such as self-identity, self-esteem and self-concept, and with the intervention type, there were mostly found the group activities integrating singing, playing and creating. It is meaningful that this study can be used as basic data developing music intervention programs for them, and suggesting music intervention considering the characteristics of them will be conducted more actively in the future.

  • This study was to investigate whether a trunk correction taping plus scapular setting exercises has an effect on trunk muscle activation and trunk balance and upper extremity function in patients with stroke. Twenty stroke patients were randomly divided into a trunk correction taping with scapular setting exercise group (n=10) and a scapular setting exercise group (n=10), and each group performed given interventions for 30 minutes for 4 weeks. In the experimental group, there were significant increases in muscle activation, K-TIS, and MFT (p<.05), and a significant improvement was detected in K-TIS and MFT compared to the control group (p<.05). This study suggests that a trunk correction taping with scapular setting exercises was more effective on trunk muscle activation, trunk balance, and upper extremity function in stroke patients compared to a scapular setting exercise. It could be clinically more significant if the change in the onset time of muscle activity is confirmed in the further researches.
