디지털TV의 데이터 방송 서비스는 기존 아날로그TV에 비해 다양한 양방향 서비스 - 게임, 주식거래, 날씨정보 등을 제공하여 다양한 시청 경험을 제공하지만 방송 시청 행태를 복잡하게 변화시켜 TV 조작에 어려움을 느끼는 시청자들을 생산하고 있다. 이 에, 시청자들의 TV 조작을 편리하게 지원하는 음성 인식, 동작 인식 등의 사용자 인터페이스에 대한 연구가 진행되고 있는데 아직 시청자들의 IT 서비스의 친숙도, 적응도 등의 개인적 요인을 고려한 EPG 사용성 향상 방법에 대해서는 연구가 진행되지 않고 있다. 본 논문은 방송 네트워크가 시청자들의 개인적 요인을 기반으로 EPG 형상들을 설계하는 방법을 제안하고 이 방법을 지원하는 방안으로 시청자가 원하는 EPG 형상을 선택하면 수신 단말기에 탑재된 EPG가 그 EPG 형상을 동적으로 실현하는 환경을 제안한다.

The interference evaluation methods and criteria between the analogue TV/FM signals for BSS(Broadcasting Satellite Service) plans and the associated feeder link plans were established in WARC(World Administrative Radio Conference)-77 and 88. However, it should be applied the different interference evaluation methods and criteria of the digital TV signals from those of the analogue TV/FM signals. In this paper, the interference evaluation methods and criteria between the digital TV signals and the analogue TV/FM signals were analyzed. And also, the effects of the interference from the digital signals for Koreasat-1 into the analogue TV/FM signals for Japanese broadcasting satellite were evaluated. The amounts of EIRP reduction in the transmitting space stations were calculated to meet the interference criteria. The results showed that the digital BSS networks including Koreasat-1 would share the limited resources with the analogue BSS networks.

For the graceful transition from the analog to digital TV systems, a systematic frequency assignment scheme must be incorporated into the transition planning procedure. In this study, we have studied the frequency assignment methodology for the efficient management of the limited spectrum resources. By applying the graph-theoretic approach, this study developed a new solution method for additional frequency assignment problem whose objective is to assign available frequencies for newly generated requirements (digital TV stations) with minimum reassignment of the preassigned frequencies to LPTV stations while meeting the interference-related constraints. The proposed algorithm can be effectively applied not only to the current digital TV introduction phase but also to the development phase with some further development. This study can be utilized as the basis for the future study on frequency assignments that aims at graceful transition from analog TV to digital TV.

In the 21 st century, broadcasting, communication, and computer have been integrated due to the development of digital technology. Accordingly, to overcome the limit of respective communication media and to maintain them, their independent area shall not be classified. This study is to examine the future environment of digital TV broadcasting, to analyze customizing type service and interactive type TV technology, and to make asymmetric interactive digital TV publication broadcasting system, which is TV broadcasting in the next generation to treat visual image, sound, and various data all together by harmonizing broadcasting and communication like ISDB(Integrate Service Digital Broadcasting). In addition, to develop service on publication broadcasting with high quality, this study is tn propose to develop relative devices for TV/PC reception to realize a new communication type TV publication broadcasting, by analyzing technology for producing, sending, transmitting, receiving, and saving to apply to customizing type interactive system and by examining its application.

Our study focus on the investigations of the effect of IPRs, the relationship Digital TV with MPEG-2, and the MPEG LA stands. MPEG LA, which build up the strong patent pool, manage to IPRs system of MPEG-2. And we examine the influence of the effect for the. patent of Digital TV and IPRs based on MPEG LA Licensing agreement. Results of this study shows that to be valuable the IPRs of MPEG-2 related to Digital TV, Korea needs the strategies for effective IPRs negotiations and technical accumulation through offensive patent management, and so on.

OTT(over-the-top) 비디오 서비스가 성장하면서 스마트TV가 동반 성장 중이다. 이 연구는 간접 네트워크 효과와 보완 이론을 적용하여 디지털 콘텐츠 이용과 스마트TV 이용 간의 관계를 탐색했다. 전국 대상 설문조사를 실시한 한국미디어패널데이터를 활용하여 디지털 콘텐츠 이용(OTT 이용여부/이용량/유형별 이용, 온라인 게임/음악/교육/뉴스 서비스 이용)이 스마트TV 이용에 미치는 영향을 분석했다. 연구결과 OTT 이용자일수록, OTT 이용시간이 많을수록 스마트TV를 이용했으며, 유료OTT단독가입, 유료OTT복수가입, 무료OTT 이용자들이 OTT 비이용자 대비 스마트TV를 이용했다. 온라인 서비스 중에서 교육서비스 이용은 스마트TV 이용과 정(+)의 관계가, 뉴스 이용은 부(-)의 관계가 있었다. 이 연구결과로 디지털 콘텐츠의 다양성과 이용증대가 스마트TV의 수요를 증대시킨다는 간접 네트워크 효과 이론이 지지되었으며, OTT 이용자가 대형 TV화면을 이용하면서 OTT와 스마트TV간 보완관계가 형성된다는 보완이론이 지지되었다.

급속한 융합 현상에 의해 미디어 간 차별성이 줄어들고 대체성이 증가하고 있다. 본 연구는 융합에 따른 경쟁 미디어 간의 대체성 변화가 가입자에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 국내 디지털 유료방송 시장을 통해 알아본다. 분석을 위해 경쟁 미디어인 IPTV와 디지털 케이블 TV의 가입자 시계열 자료를 수리생태학의 경쟁 확산 모형인 Lotka-Volterra 모형에 적용하여 시뮬레이션을 위한 기초 모형을 구축하였다. 이후 대체성과 관련된 독립변수를 조절하며 미디어별 가입자 수를 추정하는 시뮬레이션을 진행하였다. 분석 결과 디지털 케이블 TV와 IPTV는 포식자-피식자 관계로 디지털 케이블 TV가 상대적 우위에 있는 대체 관계로 나타났다. 시뮬레이션 결과 융합에 의해 대체성이 증가하면 시장규모가 축소되어 두 미디어 모두 손실을 볼 것으로 나타났다. 특히 후발주자이며 뉴미디어인 IPTV가 가장 큰 손실을 볼 것으로 추정된다. 반대로 경쟁 미디어간의 차별화 전략에 의해 대체성이 감소하면 시장규모가 확대되어 경쟁 미디어 모두가 윈윈하며, IPTV가 가장 큰 혜택을 볼 것으로 추정된다.

유비쿼터스 시대의 발전과 더불어 고품질의 멀티미디어 서비스를 위해 인터넷을 통한 대용량 데이터 전송이 증가하고 있으며 성능향상을 위한 관련 기술 개발의 필요성도 증대되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 컴퓨터에서의 인터넷 데이터와 TV 수신 기능의 통합을 통해 안정적이고 빠른 인터넷 성능과 최적의 멀티미디어 연동 기술을 제안하였다. 즉, TV수신 기술과 인터넷 데이터 처리 기술을 하나의 멀티미디어 하드웨어 장치에서 구현함으로써 TV 수신 및 네트워크 장비로써의 기능을 동시에 수행함으로서 부하 조절을 통해 멀티미디어 연동을 최적화 하는 것이다. 그리고 컴퓨터, 셋톱박스, 홈 멀티미디어 게이트웨이 등 다양한 정보 기기 플랫폼 상에서 초고속 인터넷 서비스 제공과 함께 디지털 TV 방송 수신 기능도 갖춘 다기능 멀티미디어 카드를 개발하여 기술을 검증하였다. 이를 통해 개발 카드는 TV 방송 수신 기능과 인터넷 접속을 위한 통합 네트워크 장비로서의 기능을 제공할 수 있게 되었으며, 다양하고 안정된 멀티미디어 서비스의 제공을 위한 기반을 마련할 수 있었다.

최근 아날로그 TV는 디지털 TV로 교체되고 있는 추세이다. 이는 오디오/비디오 스트림 뿐만이 아닌데이터를 수신기에 전송할 수 있는 디지털 TV의 장점에 기인한다. 그러나 그러한 데이터를 프로세싱할수 있는 규격이나 규약이 존재하지 않는다. 그래서 대부분의 회사와 개발자들은 자신들의 각각의 방식으로 그 데이터를 프로세싱하는 방법을 택하고 있다. 이러한 규격과 규약의 부재는 많은 혼동과 시간, 비용, 인력의 낭비를 초래한다. 본 논문에서는 표준적인 측면이 아닌 방법적인 측면에서 이를 해결하고자 한다. 그 해결책은 방송 콘텐츠를 생성하고 표현하는데 XML을 이용하는 것이다. 이 해결책은 많은 인력과 비용을 절약해주고, 값비싼 방송 콘텐츠의 재사용률을 높여줄 것이다.

본 연구는 IPTV와 디지털케이블 사업자가 제공하는 VOD의 시청행태와 지상파 VOD 다시보기 서비스의 추세를 시계열로 분석하고 함의를 제시하는 연구이다. 연구자는 실제 미디어 플랫폼 사업자의 데이터를 바탕으로 VOD 실적을 추세 분석하였으며, 계절적 요인으로 1월과 8월에 피크 값의 반복이 진행됨을 확인하였다. 또한 개별 지상파들은 드라마 등의 히트 프로그램에 의해 본방 시청률과 VOD의 시청에 영향을 받는 것을 확인하였다. 그리고 지상파, 영화, 어린이 VOD의 관계를 시계열로 분석하고, 지상파VOD의 구매가 하락세인 것을 확인하였다. 당초 지상파와 플랫폼사업자는 본방송 시청률을 높이고 유료VOD 구매를 확대할 목적으로 홀드백 연장을 하였으나, 연구결과 오히려 시청자의 본방송 시청과 VOD 시청 모두 구매 욕구를 감소시킨 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 따라서 연구자는 본연구가 미디어사업자들이 향후 시청자를 고려한 미디어 정책을 제시하는데 도움이 되길 기대한다.
