  • Recently, a service robot industry outstands as an up and coming industry of the next generation. Specially, there are so many research in self-steering movement(SSM). In order to implement SSM, robot must effectively recognize all around, detect objects and make a surrounding map with sensors. So, many robots have a sonar and a infrared sensor, etc. But, in these sensors, We only know informations about between the robot and the object as well as resolution faculty is of inferior quality. In this paper, we will introduce new algorithm that recognizes objects around robot and makes a two dimension surrounding map with a omni-direction vision camera and two stereo vision cameras.

  • Sensors are used to measure the states in need for control in a closed-loop system. Accuracy, reliability, stability of sensors are closely related to the controller performance. In case of sensor faults, they are detected by examining the sensor output values and the major values of the system. And then the types of the faults are recognized by the analysis of symptoms of faults. In this paper, a self-validating sensor is applied to the control of an aerodynamic plant system with the sensor fault problems in the potentiometer module for exact positioning to show the applicability. We propose a digital controller can provide a satisfactory loop performance even when the sensor faults occur.

  • We have designed a portable electronic nose (e-nose) system using an array of commercial gas sensors and personal digital assistants (PDA) for the recognition and analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOC) in the field. Field screening of pollutants has been a target of instrumental development during the past years. A portable e-nose system was advantageous to localize the special extent of a pollution or to find pollutants source. The employment of PDA improved the user-interface and data transfer by Internet from on-site to remote computer. We adapted the Lavenberg-Marquardt algorithm based on the back-propagation and proposed the method that could predict the concentration levels of VOC gases after classification by separating neural network into two parts.

  • We designed a weld monitoring system with UV and IR sensors using a embedded DSP controller for implementing a distribution system; running stand alone and communication with outside by industrial standard protocols. Also this system provided a USB port in order to be acquiring data in PC. The user interface program in PC visualized the IR and W data in time, frequency and state space. A correlation of IR and UV signals showed closely related to weld quality. A rapid change of geometry can be found through a moving average filter. And the average value of IR signal at an interval represented a welding width and depth. Through these results, we proposed a monitoring algorithm for a integer type DSP.

  • Servo drives with microcomputer control provide the possibility of using modern and sophisticated control algorithms. As an additional feature it is possible to implement parallel and/or redundant software and hardware structures to realise safe motion or similar security functions. Unfortunately microcomputer control also has some impact on the behaviour of servo drives. Control algorithm, cycle time, sensors and interface have to be perfectly synchronised. Special control schemes are necessary on the line side (power supply) to meet the actual requirements concerning EMC. This contribution presents experiences and results obtained from a modern digital drive system pointing out the influences of low and high accuracy position sensors and the interdependencies mentioned above.

  • This paper describes the realization of a coordinates tracking algorithm for an EOTS (Electro-Optical Tracking System). The EOTS stabilizes the image sensors, tracks targets automatically, and provides navigation capability for vehicles. The coordinates tracking algorithm calculates the azimuth and the elevation angle of an EOTS using the inertial navigation system and the attitude sensors of the vehicle, so that LOS designates the target coordinates which are generated by a Radar. In the error analysis, the unexpected behaviors of an EOTS due to the time delay and deadbeat of the digital signals of the vehicle equipments are anticipated and the countermeasures are suggested. The application of this algorithm to an EOTS will improve the operational capability by reducing the time which is required to find the target and support flight especially in the night time flight and the poor weather condition.

  • In the distribution networks, it is required to develop compact and smart current and voltage sensors for compact and digital switchgears. The sensor developed newly adopt the priciple of rogowski coil for current sensing and resistive voltage divider for voltage sensing. The sensing characteristics and reliabilities were improved compared to conventional ones. In the near future, these voltage and current sensing apparatus will be widely used with electronic protection units for the distribution switchgear.

  • Rogowski coil which detects magnetic flux on current changes. It is used for digital integration with watt-hour meter's current sensor, because, Rogowski coil has non-cored or non-magnetic core structure, so that, it cannot be saturated magnetically. This is a study for inventing accurate electric current sensors that have been applied on multi-layer ceramic substrate. We have confirmed its properties from each different layer's materials and pattern sizes by MWS 3D Electromagnetic field analysis program. And, after sensor manufacturing on multi-layer ceramic substrate, we confirmed its sensing quality is reliable as accurate electric current sensor for watt-hour meter.

  • The phase currents must be accurately measured to achieve the instantaneous torque control of AC motors. In general, those are measured using the current sensors. However, the measured current signals can include the offset errors and scaling errors by several components such as current sensors, analog amplifiers, noise filter circuits, and analog-to-digital converters. Therefore, the torque-controlled performance can be deteriorated by the current measurement errors. In this paper we have analyzed the influence caused by vector control of 2-phase induction motor when two errors are included in measured phase currents. Based on analyzed results, the compensation method is proposed without additional hardware. The proposed compensation method was applied vector-controlled inverter for 2-phase induction motor of 360[W] class and verified through computer simulations and experiments.

  • This paper proposes a new method to reduce the torque ripple in vector controlled inverter fed synchronous motor systems. In three phase voltage source inverter systems, all the three line currents are generally not measured and the currents of two lines are measured through two sensors and two A/D converters. The measured currents may contain some error due to the non-ideality of the current sensors and A/D converters, and the error coefficient of two line currents are not same. As a result, the developed torque contains the torque ripple. The proposed method can eliminate the torque ripple by setting the error coefficient to same value. To verify the proposed method, digital simulations are carried out.
