The efficient Reflective Wave Removal algorithm based on IR-UWB Radar and Real-time Implementation (IR-UWB Radar에 기반한 효율적인 반사파 제거 알고리즘 및 실시간 구현)

  • In this paper we propose three existing reflection removal algorithms and one proposed algorithm to estimate accurate targets in near field using IR-UWB (Impulse-Radio Ultra Wideband) radar. The received signal includes unnecessary reflected wave signals to the target signal. A reflective cancellation algorithm was used to remove unnecessary signals and estimate only the correct target signal. The location of the targets is estimated in real time with one transmitting antenna and one receiving antenna. In order to overcome the disadvantages of the existing three reflection removal algorithms, we propose a new reflection removal algorithm and estimate the most accurate target. Also we used DSP(Digital Signal Processor) to install the external mounting of vehicles. This paper will contribute to the study of the future reflections.

  • In modern warfare, the importance of electronic warfare, which carries out a mission that using radio wave to find out enemy information or to protect ally information, has increased. Radar jamming technique is one of the most representative techniques of EA(Electronic Attack), it disturbs and deceives enemy radar system in order to secure ally location information. Velocity deception jamming technique, which is one of the radar jamming techniques, generally operate against pulse-doppler radar which use doppler effect in order to track target's velocity and location. Velocity Deception Jamming Technique can be implemented using DRFM(Digital Radio Frequency Memory) that performs Frequency Modulation. In this paper, I describe implementation method of VGPO/VGPI(Velocity Gate Pull-Off/Pull-In) velocity deception jamming technique using phase-sampled DRFM, and verify the operation of VGPO/VGPI velocity deception jamming technique with board test under signal injection condition.

Study on Flood Prediction System Based on Radar Rainfall Data (레이더 강우자료에 의한 홍수 예보 시스템 연구)

  • The use of radar rainfall for hydrological appraisal has been a challenge due to the limitations in raw data generation followed by the complex analysis needed to come up with precise data interpretation. In this study, RAIDOM (RAdar Image DigitalizatiOn Method) has been developed to convert synthetic radar CAPPI(Constant Altitude Plan Position Indicator) image data from Korea Meteorological Administration into digital format in order to come up with a more practical and useful radar image data. RAIDOM was used to examine a severe local rainstorm that occurred in July 2006 as well as two other separate events that caused heavy floods on both upper and mid parts of the HanRiver basin. A distributed model was developed based on the available radar rainfall data. The Flood Hydrograph simulation has been found consistent with actual values. The results show the potentials of RAIDOM and the distributed model as tools for flood prediction. Furthermore, these findings are expected to extend the usefulness of radar rainfall data in hydrological appraisal.

  • Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is a powerful and well established microwave remote sensing technique which enables high resolution measurements of the Earth surface independent of weather conditions and sunlight illumination. In this study, this paper first summarizes the basic SAR theory and the history of the SAR satellites. The second part of this paper gives an overview of new technologies for future SAR systems. New innovative concepts and technologies for SAR satellites will be digital beamforming, High Resolution Wide Swath (HRWS), Waveform Encoding, Terrain Observation by Progressive Scan (TOPS), and so on. These technologies will play an important role for future spaceborne SAR satellites.

Low sidelobe digital doppler filter bank synthesis algorithm for coherent pulse doppler radar (Coherent 레이다 신호처리를 위한 저부엽 도플러 필터 뱅크 합성 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we propose the low sidelobe digital FIR doppler filter bank synthesis algorithm through the Gradient Descent method and it can be practially appliable to coherent pulse doppler radar signal processing. This algorithm shows the appropriate calculation of tap coefficients or zeros for FIR transversal fiter which has been employed in radar signal processor. The span of the filters in the filter bank be selected at the desired position the designer want to locate, and the lower sidelobe level that has equal ripple property is achieved than one for which the conventional weithtedwindow is used. Especially, when we implemented filter zeros as design parameters it is possible to make null filter gain at zero frequency intensionally that would be very efficient for the eliminatio of ground clutter. For the example of 10 tap filter synthesis, when filter coefficients or zeros are selected as design parameters the corresponding sidelobelevel is reducedto -70db or -100db respectively and it has good convergent characteristics to the desired sidelobe reference value. The accuracy ofapproach to the reference value and the speed of convergence that show the performance measure of this algorithm are tuned out with some superiority and the fact that the bandwidth of filter appears small with respect to one which is made by conventional weighted window method is convinced. Since the filter which is synthesized by this algorithm can remove the clutter without loss of target signal it strongly contributes performance improvement with which detection capability would be concerned.

  • The effect of inter-channel coupling in multi-channel monopulse receiver is expected to increase by miniaturization trend of receiver. Therefore, in this paper, calibration method is proposed to compensation for inter-channel coupling in receiver of monopulse radar. And it can prevent distortion of angle information of target. Hardware configuration that consists of switch, directional coupler, matched load, ADC(Analog to Digital Converter), signal source of calibration is proposed to calibration. Total nine scattering parameters are obtained by controlling the switch and signal source of calibration. After that, method for restoring the undistorted signal is proposed using the mathematical relationship between the monopulse signal output from the antenna and the monopulse signal passing through the multi-channel receiver in the presence of inter-channel coupling.

  • Thanks to the data processing facilities of modern digital computers, the performances of radar has been promoted greatly as one of the main components of command and control systems along with the computer communications. In this study, radar data integrating and processing systems were designed for the data processing of various information from many kinds of radar in a single data processing system. The performance of the data integrating system was analyzed by applying queueing theory. A radar data integrating network was designed for synchronous relational operations among the information processing systems and the transmission characteristics were also analysed by specific models for each system. The designed data integrating systems can be divided into a simplex type and a distributed multiplex type.

  • While radar operator recognizes and tracks threat targets through the scope, it is essential to overcome the jamming signal that disturbs the normal operation of the radar. Therefore, to train operator and test the EW capability of the radar, this paper proposed the jamming signal simulation algorithm and design results to generate the deception jamming(range, velocity, angle deception and multiple false targets) and noise jamming signals(spot, barrage, swept spot and cover pulse noise). And also, the radar jamming signal simulator composed of the 6 constituents is developed on basis of the proposed algorithm and digital circuit design technique and confirmed the validity of the developed simulator by means of the test results to generate the various jamming signal.

  • In order to apply to land mine detection effectively, GPR using an optical electric field sensor as a receiver has been developed. The optical electric field sensor is very small and uses optical fiber instead of metallic coaxial cable. With the combination of these advantages and the bistatic radar system, it can be possible for an operator to measure quite flexible and safely. The sensor has been tested in stepped frequency radar system with frequency which consists of a vector network analyzer, a fixed double ridged horn antenna as transmitter. For considering effectiveness in real field, we applied impulse radar system, which consist of a digital oscilloscope and a impulse generator to produce the impulse. Detection of a PMN2 mine model was carried out by the impulse radar system at a sand pit. The PMN2 were detected clearly with sufficiently high resolution, the target contrast was almost the same while the scanning time decreased down to 1/100.

Runoff Analysis Based on Rainfall Estimation Using Weather Radar (기상레이더 강우량 산정법을 이용한 유출해석)

  • The radar relationship was estimated for the selected rainfall event at Yeongchun station within Chungjudam basin where the discharge record was the range of from 1,000 CMS to 9,000 CMS. By calibrating the rainfall coefficient parameter estimated by radar relationship in small hydrology basin, rainfall with the topography properties was calculated. Three different rainfall estimation methods were compared:(1) radar relationship method (2) Thiessen method (3) Isohyetal method (4) Inverse distance method. Basin model was built by applying HEC-GeoHMS which uses digital elevation model to extract hydrological characteristic and generate river network. The proposed basin model was used as an input to HEC-HMS to build a runoff model. The runoff estimation model applying radar data showed the good result. It is proposed that the radar data would produce more rapid and accurate runoff forecasting especially in the case of the partially concentrated rainfall due to the atmospheric change. The proposed radar relationship could efficiently estimate the rainfall on the study area(Chungjudam basin).
