  • MPEG 표준화 그룹에서는 응용 서비스 중심의 목적 지향형 표준 규격 제정을 목표로 멀티미디어 응용 표준화 (MPEG-Applications: ISO/IEC 23000, MPEG-A) 활동을 활발하게 진행하고 있다. 멀티미디어 응용 표준화는 기존의 규격들 중 특정 서비스를 위해 이미 존재하는 필요한 표준 규격만을 조합하여 하나의 표준으로 규격화하므로 산업계의 요구에 유연하게 대처하고 다양한 응용 서비스를 제공하는데 효율적이다. 본 논문에서는 2006년 10월 중국 항주에서 개최된 제 78차 MPEG 회의에서 제안된 디지털 멀티미디어 방송 (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) 멀티미디어 응용 포맷 (Multimedia Application Format, MAF) 기술을 소개한다. 디지털 멀티미디어 방송 마프 기술은 기존의 DMB AV 콘텐츠 및 그것의 부가 데이터 그리고 소비자가 원하는 형태의 소비를 돕도록 하는 방송 콘텐츠 정보 메타데이터 및 콘텐츠 보호 메타데이터를 하나의 파일 형태로 구성 하는 파일 포맷 구조를 제공한다. 이러한 기술을 이용하여 일방적인 DMB 방송 서비스 형태에서 벗어나 사용자가 원하는 다양한 소비 형태를 지원할 수 있도록 하는 맞춤형 DMB 방송 서비스 등 일회성 사용에서 벗어나 콘텐츠의 활용도를 높일 수 있다.

An Estimation of the Market Potential for a New Service by Applying the Ordered Response Model (순위반응모형을 이용한 신규서비스 잠재시장규모의 추정)

  • In this research, we develope an estimation method for the estimation of the market potential in the new service (or product) diffusion model. The developed method is based on the ordered response model which can effectively incorporate the survey result of the multi-point scale intention for subscription as well as the responder's characteristics, the characteristics & attitudes of the related service. We also apply the developed method to an estimation of the market potential of the digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) service. As a result, an optimistic and a pessimistic estimates of DMB market potential are 41.10% and 14.83% of the cellular subscribers respectively.

  • 본 논문에서는 지상파 이동 멀티미디어 방송(Digital multimedia Broadcasting, DMB) 에서 비디오 영상과 데이터를 동기화 하는데 필요한 규약을 제안하고, 비디오와 데이터간의 동기화 규약을 생성하는 저작도구 구현을 기술한다. 기존의 아날로그 라디오 방송에서는 단순히 오디오만 청취할 수 있었던 것에 반해, DMB 방송에서는 비디오 영상과 관련된 정보들이 결합하여 시청자의 의견이 즉각 방송에 반영 가능한 인터랙티브 TV 프로그램을 시청 할 수 있게 되었다. 예를 들어, 퀴즈 쇼에서 출제된 문제(데이터)들이 비디오 영상과 동기를 맞추는 것이 가능해 짐에 따라 시청자도 퀴즈 쇼 출연자와 동시에 같은 문제를 풀 수도 있고 정답을 바로 응답할 수 있게 되는 것이다. 이때, 위와 같이 비디오 영상과 동기화된 데이터를 전송하기 위해서는 비디오와 데이터간의 동기를 이루어 낼 수 있는 기준 시간 즉 동기화 시간의 설정이 선행되어야 한다. 동기화 시간으로 사용 가능한 시간 값으로는 DMB의 한 서비스 형태인 Slide-Show Application 에서 사용되는 UTC를 이용하는 방법, 혹은 비디오 영상의 CTS를 이용하는 방법이 있다. 본 논문에서는 비디오와 데이터간의 동기화를 위해서는 UTC가 적합하지 않고 CTS를 사용해야 된다는 것을 보이고, CTS를 이용하는 동기화 규약을 생성하는 저작도구를 기술한다.

A Small Meander line Antenna for T-DMB Applications (지상파 DMB에 적용되는 소형 평면 안테나)

  • A small meander line antenna for T-DMB (Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) is presented. The antenna proposed here is based on a typical planar meander line antenna and miniaturized by using a double sided structure. A prototype antenna is manufactured based on the simulation results and the basic performances are measured. The presented antenna designed to operate in T-DMB band (174~216MHz) and can be adopted for various mobile applications.

  • In this paper, the implementation of location based services (LBS) using S-DMB (satellite-digital multimedia broadcasting) system was proposed. In S-DMB System, the frequency of transmitted signal is about 2 GHz which has a characteristics of strong straightness but weak diffraction so that there are many shade areas such as indoors and underground spaces. Therefore the signal transmitted from the satellite should be retransmitted by the earth repeaters called as gap filler. Because each gap filler has its own identification value, the gap filler ID introduces the area in which the gap filler was installed. Generally, the 51st data symbols of S-DMB pilot signal transmitted from the satellite are padded by dummy value and gap filler ID is embedded in this pilot symbol by the gap filler when S-DMB signals are retransmitted by gap fillers. So using gap filler ID of S-DMB system, LBS such as region registration, distance and time to destination, alarm of local area information could be implemented. In the experiment to prove the performance of the proposed LBS system using the gap filler ID of the S-DMB system, the firmware of S-DMB chip composing of RF and baseband parts was lightly modified so that application processor was able to manipulate the gap filler ID and the its related regional information.

  • This paper presents the design and implementation of a multi-mode mobile broadcasting Emergency Warning System (EWS) transmission and reception system which enables the propagation of disaster information using the encoding and transmission, reception and decoding methods specified in diverse mobile broadcasting standards. The implemented system supports global mobile broadcasting standards such as Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB), Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld (DVB-H), Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial (ISDB-T), and the Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) digital radio standard. The system consists of two key part: an encoding/transmission part and a reception/decoding part. The multi-mode mobile broadcasting EWS encoding and transmission system generates EWS data according to each broadcasting specification. The generated EWS data is then transmitted through a channel interface which meets the commercial broadcasting equipment specification. The receiver system receives and decodes the EWS data on a single hardware platform and can display the results on screen. Verification and conformity testing has been carried out on the implemented system by transmitting emergency data for each mode in real-time and displaying the received information in text on the receiver display.

Design of a Single-Feed Dual-Band Circular Antenna for Reception of S-DMB and ITS Services (위성 DMB와 ITS 서비스 수신을 위한 단일 급전 이중 대역 원형 패치 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, we proposed and fabricated the single-feed dual-band circular patch antenna for S-DMB(Satellite-Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) and ITS(Intelligent Transport Systems) services. The manufactured dual-band antenna showed that the measured -10 dB bandwidth and the minimum return loss was 90 MHz and -35 dB for S-DMB, 180 MHz and -18 dB for ITS, respectively. It is noticed that the measured and the simulated results are agreed well. And the antenna gain of S-DMB and ITS has 2.3 dBi and 2.7 dBi, respectively.

Novel Equalization On-Channel Repeater with Feedback Interference Canceller in Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting System

  • In this paper, we propose a novel equalization on-channel repeater (OCR) with a feedback interference canceller (FIC) to relay terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting signals in single frequency networks. The proposed OCR not only has high output power by cancelling the feedback signals caused by insufficient antenna isolation through the FIC, but also shows better output signal quality than the conventional OCR by removing multipath signals existing between the main transmitter and the OCR through an equalizer. In addition, computer simulations and laboratory test results demonstrate that the proposed OCR successfully cancels feedback signals and compensates channel distortions and provides a higher quality transmitting signal with higher output power than conventional OCRs.

Audio Transcoding for Audio Streams from a T-DTV Broadcasting Station to a T-DMB Receiver

  • We propose an efficient audio transcoding algorithm that can convert audio streams from terrestrial digital television broadcasting service stations to those for terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting hand-held receivers. The proposed algorithm avoids the complicated psychoacoustic analysis by calculating the scalefactors of the bit-sliced arithmetic coding encoder directly from the signal-to-noise ratio parameters of the AC-3 decoder. The bit-allocation process is also simplified by cascading the nested distortion control loop. Through subjective evaluation, it is shown that the proposed algorithm provides comparable audio quality to tandem coding but it requires much smaller complexity.

  • Characteristics of digital broadcasting are multi-channel, high-definition and multi-function. especially, multi-function is enable us to do a variety of services except for an image and a voice. This paper, therefore, is analyzed propagation environment in Busan into ETRI model application about 지상파 DMB service. It takes to be simulated in Busan area around the mountains area and high building. So it measures the electric field strength in standards. Distribution pattern are similar with mutually in the 이론 and real measurement. Even areas are almost the same, but urban areas and mountains are different with mutually. Therefore, we conclude that ETRI propagation model and theoretical modeling in a free space in Busan area is not suitable.
