  • With the development of advanced technology, automation of agricultural work is spreading. In association with the 4th industrial revolution-based technology, research on field smart farm technology is being actively conducted. A state-of-the-art unmanned automated agricultural production demonstration complex was established in Naju-si, Jeollanam-do. For the operation of the demonstration area platform, it is necessary to build a sophisticated, advanced, and intelligent field smart farming model. For the operation of the unmanned automated agricultural production demonstration area platform, we are building data on the growth of soybean for smart cultivated crops and conducting research to determine the optimal time for agricultural work. In order to operate an unmanned automation platform, data is collected to discover digital factors for water management immediately after planting, water management during the growing season, and determination of harvest time. A subsurface drip irrigation system was established for smart water management. Irrigation was carried out when the soil moisture was less than 20%. For effective water management, soil moisture was measured at the surface, 15cm, and 30cm depth. Vegetation indices were collected using drones to find key factors in soybean production prediction. In addition, major growth characteristics such as stem length, number of branches, number of nodes on the main stem, leaf area index, and dry weight were investigated. By discovering digital factors for effective decision-making through data construction, it is expected to greatly enhance the efficiency of the operation of the unmanned automated agricultural production demonstration area.

  • In this paper we show the performance of neural Chandrasekhar filtering which is a special case for the new method of neural filtering using the artificial neural network systems developed recently for the filtering problems of linear and nonlinear, stationary and nonstationary stochastic signals. The neurofilter developed has either the finite impulse response(FIR) structure or the infinite impulse response(IIR) structure. The neurofilter differs from the conventional linear digital FIR and IIR filters because the artificial neural network system used in the neurofilter has nonlinear structure due to the sigmoid function. Numerical studies for the estimation of a second order Butterworth process are performed by changing the structures of the neurofilter in order to evaluate the performance indices under the changes of the output noises or disturbances. In the numerical studies both Chandrasekhar filtering estimates and true signals are used as the training signals for the neurofilter. The results obtained from the studies verified the capabilities which are essentially necessary for on-line filtering of various stochastic signals.

  • In order to maker unmanned machining systems with satisfactory performances, it is necessary to incorporate appropriate condition monitoring systems in the machining workstations to provide the required intelligence of the expert. This paper deals with condition monitoring for chatter, tool wear and fracture during turning operation. To develop economic sensing and identification methods for turning processes, sound pressure measurement and digital signal processing technique were proposed. We suppressed chatter by stability control methodology, which was studied through manipulation of spindle speeds regarding to chatter frequencies. It was shown that tool wear and fracture were identified and to be estimated by using the wear indices. The validity of the proposed system was confirmed through the large number of cutting tests.

  • In this paper, the development of English Intonational Phonology is introduced. The existing representation systems of intonation are largely divided into the American structuralist school and the British school, which describe intonation by means of 'levels' and 'configurations' respectively. Both representation systems have some theory-internal problems, however. As for the American school, there is no way to represent pitches much lower than the reference line, while the system of intonation in the British school is limited in that intonation is described in a phonetic impressionistic way rather than from a phonological perspective. Intonational Phonology, a real phonological approach, which has grown out of the basic assumptions of autosegmental-metrical(AM) theory has been suggested by Pierrehumbert(1980). In her approach, an intonational tune is made up of one or more pitch accents, followed by an obligatory phrase accent and an obligatory boundary tone, and interestingly 22 combinations are possible. Intonational Phonology has been revised from Beckman & Pierrehumbert(1986) in developing ToBI(Tones & Break Indices), a proposed standard for labelling prosodic features of digital speech databases in English.

  • A novel control method involving an automatic tuning of digital PID controller parameters has been developed for better regulation of DO (dissolved oxygen) concentration in batch fermentation processes. Heuristic reasoning allows the PID controller to reach improved tuning decisions based upon the supervision of certain control performance indices in the same cognitive manner as in an expert control.

  • This paper presents the selection method of Minimal Cut Sets(MCS) for substation reliability evaluation. We used the Quality solution in order to model the FT for the substation equipment. Quantitative analysis is performed to estimate the probability of top event occurrence and unreliability of the substation component. In this result, it means that reliability indices which can be predict get electricity services and better maintenance in substation management.

  • In this paper, a state-space model of the burnthrough point control system of an industrial sintering process is derived. The model is then used in designing a self-tuning controller which consists of the receding horizon control law and a least-squares prediction algorithm with covariance resetting. By applying this controller to POSCO IV sintering process, satisfactory experimental results have been obtained. This paper presents some of these real-time experimental results and analyzes the control performance through productivity, operation indices, quality, sintered material composition, etc. From these experimental results and simulation results, the validity of the model can be observed. Moreover, the properties of the controller, e.g. stability, steady-state error, are shown based on the model.

  • We have fabricated a multi-mode nonlinear plastic optical fiber (POF) using organic nonlinear optical materials and demonstrated the propagation of light. The refractive indices of core and cladding are 1.5240 and 1.5172. We made a POF preform by rod-in tube method. The core diameter of the fabricated POF is about $30{\mu}m$. We evaluated the temperature characteristics of POF. The sensitivity is $0.345{\;}mW/^{\circ}C$ and the linearity of sensor was good.

  • Recently, digital doorlock systems have been employing biometric recognition and smartphone as personal authentification means. The performance of a digital doorlock system is determined by the two conflicting indices such as security and convenience. This paper proposes and implements one grip based doorpull shaped doorlock systems using fingerprint and touch sensor grip pattern. The proposed system sequentially performs fingerprint recognition and grip pattern identification when a user grips the doorpull in order to open the door. This method so called 'One Grip' is considered to enhance security while maintaining users' convenience. We expect the proposed method can solve the phone missing problem encountered in developing smart doorlock systems based on smartphones.
