The purpose of this study was to find out older adults' current uses, satisfaction level and life changes by using digital home services. The study collected data from 140 persons who were 55 years and older living in a digital home. The uses and attitude of digital home services by older adults turned out to be the important variables that led to their positive life changes. For older adults, various ideas to expand their understanding of digital home services should be developed to increase the positive life changes.

Our society is rapidly digitalizing. The effects of his digitalization are very diverse and one of them is that our living environments are changing. Many routine places which certain activities have been taken places are changing. For example, home office, education at home using internet, home shopping, internet banking, and so on. These facts cause the home to be extended and digitalized. That is, as our living patterns are changing, the housing needs are also changing. The purpose of this study is to graspe the digital related housing needs of the residents and suggest the directions of the digital home design. The subjects were 400 housewives who lived in 85m2 sized multi-family houses in Busan. They were relatively young in their age, had high education level, and middle income. On the base of their demands, the digital home designed as follows would be desirable: 1) safe and secure design and digital system, 2) design to improve residents' health and encourge family interaction, 3) human, warm, and soft interior mood, 4) the space composition different from the existing one.

New paradigm of the 21st is 'Ubiquitous'. And great changes arises from the digital environment and technology. Also, our living environments are changing very rapidly. Because of rapid developments, we didn't have enough time to examine our current situation. So we had to look around the current living spaces. The main purpose of this research was to know about the home network service and environmental context in our living spaces and to explore the outlook in the forseeable future. To search them, four recent digital home exhibition houses were examined. The findings showed that many kinds of common network systems were suggested and were acted in limited spaces. And when we examined the environmental context, we found most of the instruments were installed fixed ones or integrated information appliances. Therefore, the plan of digital home needs to consider environmental context and the combination of residents and living spaces.

Recently, the cooperation among Korea, Japan, and China for the standardization of information technology is very well done due to the mutual countries' interests. Especially, in the field of digital home, that is consisted of next generation digital home technology and service based on the ubiquitous computing, the Korea and Japan have endeavored for several years, and now they are in good will competition in technology and the mutual cooperation for the standardization. In this article, the current trends of Japanese and Korean technology and service in ubiquitous home are discussed. From this discussion, the comparison between Japan and Korea will be used for the industrialization based on the best aspects from the view points of each other's technology and approach.

This study examined the awareness of the middle aged about the digital home system and well-being apartment design elements in order to suggest the design guidelines for planning of the elderly housing environment. By literature review, the concept and characteristics of the digital home system and well-being Apartment design elements were summarized the degree of satisfaction and preference of middle aged for these characteristics were investigated and analyzed. For this study, a questionnaire survey of 156 housewives living in apartment complex of Busan was carried out. The results of this study are as follows: The middle aged were generally short of recognition for digital skill and service, and also they showed positive evaluations to a few useful items of digital home system. These items belong under safety security system and interior environment control system and provided for convenient & comfortable life. Accordingly, satisfied digital home system can apply basic design element for housing for elderly. Whereas, the middle-aged were not satisfied with housework help system and cultural life system because items of these systems were not various and complicate to us. So, for the improvement of not satisfied digital home system, we needed development of digital contents and marketing & management for high accessibility and easy useability. The middle aged will concern about health & environment friendly continuously and become to stay long in their housing as the characteristics of elderly. So, It is necessary to be considered well-being apartment design elements of health & environment friendly very actively and lastingly in elderly housing environment design. Also, the awareness of middle aged for digital home system and well-being apartment design elements varied according to the background characteristics. This suggests housing environment for elderly life is considered differently as various background characteristics of middle aged.

It is estimated that 2.25 million households accounting for $13.5\%$ of total households will have home networking in 2025. As the need for intelligence and sustainability of residential environment has been increasing, the growing demand for intelligent house is obvious. The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception of consumers on digital home and their needs. A web-survey was conducted and the survey participants were limited to residents living in housing built after 2003. A total of 120 responses were used for data analysis. The images of digital home were categorized into environmental friendliness, convenience, and sophistication. Also the respondents showed the strong need for functions of digital home such as safety from emergency and entertainment.

Recently, newly built apartments in Korea are provided various home automation (HA) systems based on information technology(IT) for residents' safer, healthier and more convenient living. However, the residents in these digital apartments are often not able to use the home automation systems effectively because of lack of their IT knowledge, attitude, or education. However, there are few researches have been done to find out the HA systems' real problems with regard to residents' aspects who use those systems everyday. The purpose of this study was to find out residents' current uses, satisfaction level and existing problems of HA systems by residents' POE. The findings of this study will give useful information to digital home construction companies to provide user-friendly digital home services for increasing users' satisfaction. One distinctive apartment equipped with home automation systems located in Seoul was selected for in-depth personal interview. The researcher developed a survey instrument and collected the data from 58 residents in January, 2007 who had been living there for more than a year. The results of the study found that critical problems were existed in several systems and they caused a lot of dissatisfaction from the residents. Also, some residents do not use several systems although they need to use them due to the burden of maintenance fee. Further detail findings and suggestions of this study were discussed.

This paper presents a signal processing IC for digital HDTV, which is designed to operate in bunt-in HDW or in HD-set-top Box. The chip supports de-multiplexing an ISO/IEC 13818-1 MPEG-2 TS stream. It decodes MPEG-2 MP@HL video bitstream, and provides high-quality scaled video for display on HDTV monitor. The chip consists of ARM7TDMI for TS-Demux, PCI interface, Audio interface, MPEG2 MP@HL video decoder Display processor, Graphic processor, Memory controller, Audio int3face, Smart Card interface and UART. It is fabricated using Sam sung's 0.18-um and the package of 492-pin BGA is used.

Due to the rapid spread of high speed Internet access and the contents digitization, the demand for the copyright protection of digital contents has increased continuously so that the digital rights protection technology becomes one of the inevitable components in the digital content providing services. This paper describes the current trend of DRM(Digital Rights Management) technology and how to implement the system for the protection of digital assets in the digital home networking environment.
