  • In order to evaluate the lifespan of high-temperature parts with thermal barrier coating in gas turbines used for power generation, this study was performed on an 80 MW-class gas turbine exceeding 24 k equivalent operating hours. Degradation characteristics were evaluated by analyzing the YSZ (Yttria Stabilized Zirconia) top coat, which serves as the thermal barrier coating layer, the NiCrAlY bond coat, and interface layers. Microstructural analysis of the top, middle, and bottom sections showed that Thermal Growth Oxide (TGO) growth, Cr precipitate growth within the bond coat layer, and formation of diffusion layer occur actively in high-temperature sections. These microstructural changes were consistent with damaged areas of the thermal barrier coating layer observed at the surface of the used blade. The distribution of Cr precipitates within the bond coat layer, in addition to the thickness of TGO, is regarded as a key indicator in the evaluation of degradation characteristics.

  • The purposed of this study was to investigate the effect of Gold bonding agent as intermediate layer between metal substrate and ceramic coating. Gold bonding agent used to seal off any surface porosity, to mask the greyish color of the metal, and to provide an underlying bright golden hue to the ceramic coverage. The adhesion between metal substrate and ceramic is related to diffusion of oxygen during ceramic firing. The oxide layer produced on non-precious alloy anti titanium was considered to have a potentially adverse effect on metal-ceramic bonding. The oxidation characteristics of titanium and non-precious alloys are the main problem. Every group were divided into test and control groups. Control groups are carried out process of degassing for product oxide layer. Au coating was applied on each Ni-Cr, Co-Cr alloys and cp-Ti specimens with difference surface condition or degassing. Specimens surfaces and cutting plane was characterized by SEM/EDS. Results suggested that Au coating is effective barriers to protect metal oxidation during ceramic firing.

  • To improve the electrochemical properties of thin-film LiCoO$_2$ cathodes, metal oxides were coated on the LiCoO$_2$ thin films using f sputtering. Galvanostatic charge-discharge experiments showed the enhanced cycling behaviors in the metal-oxide coated LiCoO$_2$ thin films than the uncoated ones. These results are because the metal-oxide coating layer suppresses the degradation of Li-diffusion kinetics during cycling, which is related to the protection of cathode surface from the electrolytes [l-3]. The variation in the metal-oxide coating thickness ranging from 10 to 300 nm did not affect the electrochemical properties. Changes of lattice constants in the coated and bare LiCoO$_2$ thin films at different charged states will also be discussed.

  • Thermal spray technology has been used in many industrial application. Especially, thermal spray coating have been employed with the purposes of achieving better resistances in abrasion, heat and corrosion. In the previous studies on the thermal spray coating, thermal spray characteristics from the perspective of combustion engineering have not been investigated sufficiently, while the material characteristics of the coated substrates have been investigated widely. In this study, the effect of spray particles on the flame behavior was experimentally investigated. The amount of the injected particles was measured using the light scattering method and the temperature of the particles was estimated using a two-color method. Various flame-spray interactions were observed and it was found that the high temperature zone near the flame is elongated by particles density. Based on these results, the applicability of the light scattering method and the two-color method was discussed.

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the characteristics of the catalytic burner to bum LPG and toluene alternately which can be applied to the dryer of an acryl coating process of textile. It was difficult to obtain complete conversion when the catalytic burner was installed to downward direction. The catalytic burner was improved by introducing the forced diffusion combustion air and the premixing air. The optimal operating conditions for the newly improved catalytic burner were obtained. The catalytic burner for toluene mixture was also investigated to incinerate toluene mixture exhausted from drying process. Results showed that the catalytic burner could oxidize toluene mixture completely at the proper operating conditions. Finally, the catalytic burner to bum LPG and toluene alternately was applied to the dryer of acryl coating. By using the catalytic burner, benefits of energy savings and environmental protection were obtained.

  • It has between investigated that the optimum spaying conditions, such as, spraying distance, fusing temperature and fusing time, ect, in a Ni-cr base self fluxing alloy sprayed on the mild steel substrate by oxygen-acetylenc flame spraying. Sprayed specimens on various conditions were fuused in a vacuum furnace and the results were as follows. The optimum spraying condition for excellent coating layer are obtained under spraying distances, fusing temperature and fusing and time ; 180~240mm,1050~110$0^{\circ}C$and 15~30min, respectively. The adhesive strength and surface hurface hardness of the as sprayed specimens were very low by mechanical bonding becaus of the diffusion layer during process. The carbides and borides and formed in the sprayed coating layer and densification of the layer was resulted from the elimination of pores and oxides. The hardness of sprayed coating layer, particularly in the high temperature, was superior to ordinary tool steels.

  • A theoretical model which combines gaseous transport and solid state diffusion was used to study aluminide coating process by pack cementation. The aluminide coatings were applied in the high activity pack containing $NH_4Cl$ activator with Ni substrate under argon atmosphere. On the basis of the process conditions, the suggested model allows the surface composition, the growth rate of coating layers and the aluminium concentration profiles in coatings to be calculated. In the case of $NH_4Cl$ activator, careful consideration was required in the analysis, because activator contains nitrogen and hydrogen as well as halogen element to activate the pack. A good agreement is obtained between the theoretical predictions and the experimental results.

  • In this study the effect of nickel addition on the coating weight of mini-mill steels containing silicon has been studied. It is shown that the pure zinc accelerated growth of the alloy layers occurred by a rapid growth of the zeta phase at 0.06%Si. The addition of 0.06%Ni to a pure zinc bath was found to be very effective in reducing the coating weight and promoting preferential development of the delta phase. The coating obtained by immersion in the Zn-Ni bath shows the presence of a nickel-rich region between the zeta phase and the eta phase. It is suggested that nickel prevents the rapid growth of the zeta phase due to the formation of the Zn-Ni-Fe ternary compound, which may act as a barrier to inward diffusion of zinc or iron at the zeta-eta boundary.

  • With a specially designed electrochemical cell, the changes in impedance behavior for Inconel 600 and aluminide diffusion coatings under molten sulfate film with thermal cycles (from $800^{\circ}C$ to $350^{\circ}C$) were monitored with electrochemical impedance measurements. It was found that corrosion resistance for both materials increased with lower temperatures. At the same time, the state of molten salt was also monitored successfully by measuring the changes in impedance at high frequency, which generally represents the resistance of molten salt itself. After two thermal cycles, both Inconel 600 and aluminide diffusion coatings showed excellent corrosion resistance. The results from SEM observation and EDS analysis correlated well with the results obtained by electrochemical impedance measurements. It is concluded that electrochemical impedance is very useful for monitoring the corrosion resistance of materials under molten salt film conditions even with thermal cycles.
