We fabricated micro-pump using stereolithography technology. The pump was fabricated using PZT for its drive and used non-movable valve of diffuser/nozzle concept. Size of the pump chamber is, $14mm{\psi}$, narrow hole of diffuser/nozzle is $0.5mm{\psi}$ and wide hole $1mm{\psi}$ and chamber depth is 1.2mm, respectively. We confirmed its operation at frequency 100Hz, supply voltage $90{\sim}250Vp-p$. As the result of the pump working measurement, when ethanol is used, the pressure head difference between inlet and outlet of the pump is about 53mm in the frequency of 100Hz, 200V of Vp-p.

The gas jet pumps serve to preduce a vacuum or can be used as gas jet compressors. These are operated on the same principle as a steam jet vacuum pump : in the driving nozzle the pressure energy of the motive medium is converted into the kinetic energy. In the diffuser the driving jet mixes with the suction medium and the kinetic energy is reconverted into the pressure enegy. The application fields of gas jet ejectors are the evacuation of siphoning installations, the elevation of liquids, the production of vacuum filters, the vacuum supporting airlift system, the evacuation of the suction line of centrifugal pumps and the ventilation of the dangerous gases to the atmosphere. The performance of gas jet ejector is influenced strongly to velocity coefficient of motive nozzle, the distance between the motive outlet to the diffuser inlet and the dimensions of diffuser. This study is performed for the computer aided design of gas jet ejectors in future. Through the present experiments, it is known that the velocity coefficient of the motive air nozzle ranges from 0.91 to 0.95 and the maximum efficiency of gas jet ejector is 24.6%.
This paper presents the fabrication and performance inspection of a peristaltic micropump by flow simulation. The valve-less micropump using the diffuser/nozzle is consists of base plate, mid plate, top plate and connection tubes fur inlet and outlet. In detail, the base plate is composed of two diffuser nozzles and three chambers, the mid plate consists of a glass diaphragm for the volumetric change of the pumping chamber. The inlet and outlet tubes are connected at the top plate and the actuator fur pressing the diaphragm is located beneath the top plate. The micropump is fabricated on the silicon wafer by DRIE (Deep Reactive ion Etching) process. The pumping performances are tested by the pneumatic test rig and compared with the simulated results fur various dimensions of diffuser nozzles. The pumping characteristics of the micropump by the volumetric change at the pumping chamber is modeled and simulated by the commercial software of FLOW-3D. The simulated results shows that reverse flow is the inherent phenomena in the diffuser nozzle type micropump, but it can be reduced at the dual pumping chamber model.
The present study is an experimental work of the sonic/supersonic air ejector-diffuser system. The pressure-time dependence in the secondary chamber of this ejector system is measured to investigate the steady operation of the ejector system. Six different primary nozzles of two sonic nozzles, two supersonic nozzles, petal nozzle, and lobed nozzle are employed to drive the ejector system at the conditions of different operating pressure ratios. Static pressures on the ejector-diffuser walls are to analyze the complicated flows occurring inside the system. The volume of the secondary chamber is changed to investigate the effect on the steady operation. the results obtained show that the volume of the secondary chamber does not affect the steady operation of the ejector-diffuser system but the time-dependent pressure in the secondary chamber is a strong function of the volume of the secondary chamber.
Experimental study was conducted to increase the oxygen transfer efficiency of air diffusers in clean water. By measuring the bubble size from the bubbly two-phase flow visualization with several air diffusers the size of air bubbles near the top surface of aeration tank seems to be independent on the diffuser types. Considering design parameters for the better breakup of larger bubbles around the air diffusers, advanced conceptual air diffusers using nozzle-type throat showing the higher oxygen transfer efficiencies were made.

The performance characteristics of a subscale diffuser under non-reacting conditions for high-altitude simulation were numerically investigated with respect to different lengths of the secondary throat diffuser. The ratio of the length of the diffuser entrance to the nozzle exit diameter was set to 0, 50, and 100%. In addition, flow characteristics were studied for a range of length-to-diameter ratios of the secondary throat diffuser. An insufficient diffuser entrance length caused contraction of the plume immediately after the nozzle exit. When the length-to-diameter ratio was less than 8, a strong Mach disk was formed inside the diffuser, resulting in a sharp increase in pressure. In addition, flow characteristics in the diverging part of the diffuser were investigated for a range of diverging part lengths. A short diverging part may lead to abrupt pressure recovery, resulting in the possible application of mechanical load to the diffuser.

The characteristics of second throat exhaust diffuser were investigated by using CFD. Because the second throat exhaust diffuser(STED) is known as the effective device for simulating high-altitude circumstance more than a cylindrical supersonic diffuser STED was analyzed. The back pressure around nozzle was reduced by entrance size of STED and it was observed that the initial strong shock was the weak oblique shock along the diffuser. Therefore the static pressure at nozzle exit was recovered as the ambient pressure and the STED worked well.

Steam ejector is a equipment which compresses the gases to desired discharge pressure. It is widely used for the evacuation systems because of its high working confidence. And recently it is used as the thermo-compressors in the various energy saving systems. Steam ejector is constructed of three basic parts; a suction chamber, a motive nozzle and a diffuser. The high velocity stream jet of steam emitted by the motive nozzle creats suction chamber, which draws the low pressure gases. The diffuser converts the kinetic energy of high velocity flow to pressure energy. It is not easy to determine the dimensions of a steam ejector met to the desired design condition, because that the expected suction rates must be obtained by reapeating the complicate calculation. And also such a calculation is concomitant with geometrical analysis for suction part and diffuser based on the stability of steam flow. Therefore, it is considered that the Computer-Aided Design (CAD) of steam ejector is a powerful design method. In this paper, computer program for steam ejector design is developed based on the theoretical research and the previous experimental results. And the determinating method of diffuser inlet angle and the velocity development profile of suction gas along to the diffuser are suggested. The validity of the development profile of suction gas along to the diffuser are suggested. The validity of the developed computer results with other's for the practical design calculation of a manufactured steam ejector.
Compressible gas flow through a convergent-divergent nozzle is choked at the nozzle throat under a certain critical pressure ratio, and then being no longer dependent on the pressure change in the downstream flow field. In practical, the flow field at the divergent part of the critical nozzle can affect the effective critical pressure ratio. In order to investigate details of flow field through a critical nozzle, the present study solves the axisymmetric, compressible, Wavier-Stokes equations. The diameter of the nozzle throat is D=8.26mm and the half angle of the diffuser is changed between $2^{\circ}\;and\;10^{\circ}$ Computational results are compared with the previous experimental ones. The results obtained show that the divergence angle is significantly influences the critical pressure ratio and the present computations predict the experimented discharge coefficient and critical pressure ratio with a good accuracy. It is also found that a nozzle with the half angle of $4^{\circ}$ nearly predicts the theoretical critical pressure ratio.

Recently, according to increase in the requirement of electric power, a thermoelectric power plant equipped with pulverized coal combustion system is highly valued, because coal has abundant deposits and a low price compared with others. For efficient use of coal fuel, most of plant makers are studying to improve combustion performance and flame stability, and reduce pollutants emission. One of these studies is how to control the profile of particle injection and velocity dependant on coal nozzle configuration. Basically, nozzle which has mixed flow of gas and particle is required to have the balanced coal concentration at exit, but it is very difficult to obtain that by itself without help of other device. In this study, coal distribution and pressure drop in gas-solid flow are calculated by numerical method in nozzle with various shapes of venturi diffuser as a means to get even coal particle distribution. The tentative correlations of pressure drop and exit coal distribution are deduced as function of the height, length and reducing angle of venturi from the calculated results. When coal hurner nozzle is designed, these equations are very useful to optimize the shape of venturi which minimize uneven particle distribution and pressure drop within coal nozzle.
