  • X-ray diffraction analysis technique was used for the fatigue damage analysis and fatigue life prediction in Al 7075-T651 alloy. The tensile test, fatigue strength and fatigue crack propagation test with change of stress ratio were carried out. As a result, half-value breadth was increased with the plastic deformation in the specimen increasint at all test conditions. In particular, half-value breadth at the surface of the specimens fractured by fatigue was increased as stress intensity factor range and effective stress intensity factor range were increased. In addition, the good relationship between half-value breadty and diffraction pattern was shown.

  • The use of primitive cell volume and zero order Laue (ZOLZ) pattern is proposed to identify phase in a complex microstructure. Single convergent beam electron pattern containing higher order Laue zone ring from a nanosized region is sufficient to calculate the primitive cell volume of the phase, while ZOLZ pattern is used to determine the zone axis of the crystal. A computer program is used to screen out possible phases from the value of measured cell volume from convergent beam electron diffraction (CBED) pattern. Indexing of ZOLZ pattern follows in the program to find the zone axis of the identification from a single CBED pattern. An example of the analysis is given from the rapidly solidified $Al-Al_3Ti$ system.

  • In this paper, we propose diffraction-based sound control method to improve sound immersion in a virtual environment. The proposed technique can express the wave and flow of sound in a physical environment and a pattern similar to diffraction in real-time. Our approach determines whether there is an obstacle from the location of the sound source and then calculates the position of the new sound reflected and diffracted by the obstacle. Based on ray tracing, it determines whether or not it collides with an obstacle, and predicts the sound level of the agent behind the obstacle by using the vector reflected and refraction by the collision. In this process, the sound attenuation according to the distance/material is modeled by attenuating the size of the sound according to the number of reflected/refracted rays. As a result, the diffraction pattern expressed in the physics-based approach was expressed in real time, and it shows that the diffraction pattern also changes as the position of the obstacle is changed, thereby showing the result of naturally spreading the size of the sound. The proposed method restores the diffusion and diffraction characteristics of sound expressed in real life almost similarly.

  • Blue phase shows several different reflection colors from the randomly oriented domains and crystal direction. Also there are variations in the size of domains. The domain size is dependent on the temperature gradient. With smaller cooling rate of temperature, the domain size was increased compared with rapid cooling. With injection of light of specific wavelength, we find that the diffraction patterns were occurred around the light spot in the cell of blue phase. It was supposed to be from the matching of the phase retardation and domain size. However, actually the diffraction pattern is reflecting the lattice structure in double twist of the blue phase. The lattice constant from the radius of diffraction patterns shows very similar one from the reflection spectrum, which indicates the internal lattice constant in double twist of the blues phase.

  • In this paper, the simulation and optimization of SRH (Surface Relief Hologram) masks for printing LCD gate patterns using TIR (Total Internal Reflection) holographic lithography was investigated. A simulation and optimization algorithm based on SDTA (Scalar Diffraction Theory Analysis) method was developed. The accuracy of the algorithm was compared to that of the RCWA (Rigorous Coupled Wave Analysis) method for estimating the Fresnel diffraction pattern of Cr amplitude masks for the given system geometry. In addition, the results from the optimization algorithm were validated experimentally. It was found that one to the most important conditions for the fabrication of SRH masks is to avoid nonlinear shape distortions of the resulting grating. These distortions can be avoided by designing SRH masks with recorded gratings having small aspect ratios of width versus depth. The optimum gap size between the Cr and SRH masks was found using the optimization algorithm. A printed LCD gate pattern with a minimum line width of $1.5{\mu}m$ exposed using the optimized SRH mask was experimentally demonstrated.

  • We studied relation of X-ray diffraction and charge/discharge capacity of LiMn$_2$O$_4$ cathode. LiMn$_2$O$_4$ is prepared by reacting stoichiometric mixture of LiOH.$H_2O$ and MnO$_2$ (mole ratio 1 : 2) and heating at $700^{\circ}C$, 80$0^{\circ}C$ for 24hr, 36hr, 48hr, 60hr and 72hr. Through X-ray diffraction pattern, it is analyzed that crystal structure and lattice parameter and peak ratio so on. We obtained X-ray diffraction pattern that varied lattice parameter and peak intensity by function of calcining temperature and time. Cathode active materials calcined at 80$0^{\circ}C$ for 36hr shown that (111)/(311) Peak ratio at X-ray diffraction pattern was 0.37. It means that crystal structure is formed very well in this temperature and time. In the result of charge/discharge test, cathode active material calcined at 80$0^{\circ}C$ for 36hr displayed excellent charge/discharge properties than that of cathode active materials calcined at other temperature and title. In this study, we certified that spinel structure basied cubic is formed very well at 80$0^{\circ}C$ for 36hr. In this case, (111)/(311) peak ratio at X-ray diffraction is 0.37, and charge/discharge properties is excellent than others.

  • The array patterns of a patch array antenna were calculated using an active element pattern (AEP) method that considers ground edge effects. The classical equivalent radiation model of the patch antenna, which is characterized by two radiating slots, was adopted, and the AEPs that include mutual coupling were precisely calculated using full-wave simulated S-parameters. To improve the accuracy of the calculation, the edge diffraction of a ground plane was incorporated into AEP using the uniform geometrical theory of diffraction. The array patterns were then calculated on the basis of the computed AEPs. The array patterns obtained through the conventional AEP approach and the AEP method that takes ground edge effects into account were compared with the findings derived through full-wave simulations conducted using a High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) and FEKO software. Results showed that the array patterns calculated using the proposed AEP method are more accurate than those derived using the conventional AEP technique, especially under a small number of array elements or under increased steering angles.

  • The Gaussian diffraction pattern initially assumed in the diffraction inverse problem is further sharply defined by multiplying $e^{-q{\omega}_0$\mid${\chi}$\mid$}$. The modified pupil function is obtained and the diffraction intensity distribution for the finite aperture ($-{\omega}_0~{\times}{\omega}_0$ is obtained, and then the OTF is derived analytically. It is found the OTF is equal to or less than the $(OTF)_{q=0}$, namely the modulation is not useful. It is shown that the narrowing down the initial Gaussian diffraction pattern does not give the anticipated improvement in OTF and the reason is clarified.

  • Diffraction patterns of the electromagnetic field scattered by a circular cylindrical cavity embedded in a dielectric medium are analyzed. When the wavelength of the incident wave is comparable to the radius of the cavity, strong double dips occur at the locations corresponding to the top and the bottom of the cavity. Furthermore, the phase changes abruptly about the dip points. The changes of the amplitude and the phase patterns are observed as the measuring distance and the signal frequency varies. The effects of the change of the medium dielectric constant on the diffraction pattern is also presented.

  • To evaluate the cooling rate of clinker quantitatively, several clinkers with different cooling rate were made in the laboratory. The X-ray diffraction pattern of Ferrite 002 reflection were measured and the parameters were calculated by using split type pseudo-Voigt function. The X-ray diffraction patterns of the Ferrite phase in the clinkers from cement manufacturing plant were analyzed by using the parameters and the analysis program was developed to calculate the cooling rate quantitatively. The cooling rate coefficients of the clinkers were calculated by using the profile fitting method of the program and the influence of cooling rate on strength was evaluated. The results show that there is a close relation between the cooling rate of clinker and the strength of cement.
