1-{2,4-Di-(2-hydroxyethoxy)phenyl}-2-(2-thienyl)ethene (5) was prepared and condensed with terephthaloyl chloride to yield polyester (6). Polymer 6 was reacted with tetracyanoethylene to give novel Y-type polyester (7) containing 1-(2,4-dioxyethoxy)phenyl-2-{5-(2,2,3-tricyanovinyl)-2-thienyl)}ethenyl groups as NLO-chromophores, which are parts the polymer backbones. Polymer 7 is soluble in common organic solvents such as acetone and N,N-dimethylformamide. It showed thermal stability up to 300 ${^{\circ}C}$ in thermogravimetric analysis with glasstransition temperature obtained from differential scanning calorimetry near 134 ${^{\circ}C}$. The second harmonic generation (SHG) coefficient ($d_33$) of poled polymer film at the 1560 nm fundamental wavelength was around 6.74 x $10^{-9}$ esu. The dipole alignment exhibited high thermal stability up to the glass-transition temperature ($Tg$), and there was no SHG decay below 135 ${^{\circ}C}$ because of the partial main-chain character of polymer structure, which is acceptable for NLO device applications.
In this study, a wet chemical method was used to synthesize nanostructured hydroxyapatite for biomedical applications. Diammonium hydrogen phosphate and calcium nitrate 4-hydrate were used as starting materials with a sodium hydroxide solution as an agent for pH adjustment. Scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, differential thermal analysis, thermal gravimetric analysis, atomic absorption spectroscopy, and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) titration analysis were used to characterize the synthesized powders. Having been uniaxially pressed, the powders formed a disk-like shape. The sinterability and electrical properties of the samples were examined, and the three-point bending test allowed for the measurement of their mechanical properties. Sedimentation analysis was used to analyze the slurry ability of hydroxyapatite. As in-vitro biological properties of the samples, biocompatibility and cytotoxicity were assessed using osteoblast-like cells and the L929 cell line, respectively. Solubility was assessed by employing a simulated body fluid.
Thermo-mechanical vibration of sandwich beams with a stiff core and face sheets made of functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) is investigated within the framework of Timoshenko beam theory. The material properties of FG-CNTRC are supposed to vary continuously in the thickness direction and are estimated through the rule of mixture and are considered to be temperature dependent. The governing equations and boundary conditions are derived by using Hamilton's principle and are solved using an efficient semi-analytical technique of the differential transform method (DTM). Comparison between the results of the present work and those available in literature shows the accuracy of this method. A parametric study is conducted to study the effects of carbon nanotube volume fraction, slenderness ratio, core-to-face sheet thickness ratio, and various boundary conditions on free vibration behavior of sandwich beams with FG-CNTRC face sheets. It is explicitly shown that the vibration characteristics of the curved nanosize beams are significantly influenced by the surface density effects.
[ $Zn(BH_4)_2$ ] ($8.4\;wt\%$ theoretical hydrogen storage capacity) powders have been successfully synthesized by mechanochemical reaction from mixtures of $ZnCl_2$ and $NaBH_4$ powders in a 1:2 molar ratio in different times. $$ZnCl_2\;+\;2NaBH_4\rightarrow\;Zn(BH_4)_2\;+\;2NaCl\;(1)$$$Zn(BH_4)_2$ powders were characterized by X-ray diffractometry(XRD), and Furier Transform Infrared spectrometry(FT-IR). The thermal stabilities of $Zn(BH_4)_2$ powders were studied by Differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), Thermogravimetry analysis(TGA), and Mass spectrometry(MS). $Zn(BH_4)_2$ can be tested for hydrogen evolution without further purification. The reaction to yield hydrogen is irreversible, the other products being compounds of Zn, and borane. $Zn(BH_4)_2$ thermally decomposes to release borane and hydrogen gas between about 85 and $150^{\circ}C$.
A numerical study is performed to investigate the impacts of thermal loading on the vibration and buckling of functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) conical shells. Thermo-mechanical properties of constituents are considered to be temperature-dependent. Considering the shear deformation theory, the energy functional is derived, and applying the variational differential quadrature (VDQ) method, the mass and stiffness matrices are obtained. The shear correction factors are accurately calculated by matching the shear strain energy obtained from an exact three-dimensional distribution of the transverse shear stresses and shear strain energy related to the first-order shear deformation theory. Numerical results reveal that considering temperature-dependent material properties plays an important role in predicting the thermally induced vibration of FG-CNTRC conical shells, and neglecting this effect leads to considerable overestimation of the stiffness of the structure.
Polyenaminonitriles containing cycloaliphatic and aliphatic units were prepared by interfacial or solution polymerization reaction of p-bis(1-chloro-2,2-dicyanovinyl) benzene (1) with 4-aminobenzyl-amine, 1-(2-aminoethyl)piperazine, 2-(aminomethyl)pyrrolidine and 4-(aminomethyl)piperidine. The chemical structure of the polymers was confirmed through a syntheses of the model compound. The resulting polymers possessed inherent viscosities of 0.29∼0.62 dL/g and they were easily soluble in polar aprotic solvents and common organic solvents. Thermal properties of the polymers such as curability and stability were studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and infrared spectroscopy. The polymers exhibited a large exotherm in DSC analyses and underwent a curing reaction around 340-370$\^{C}$ to form insoluble materials. The polymers showed 70-80% residual weight at 600 $\^{C}$ under nitrogen.

The anthracene derivatives were synthesized by Suzuki coupling reaction. The thermal, optical and electronic properties of MNAn and BIPAn were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), UV-vis absorption, photoluminescen ce spectroscopies, and cyclic voltammetry. The materials exhibit high thermal stability and high per formance in EL devices.
The vacuum investment casting process for a large gas turbine component, Inner Preswirl Support (IPS), was simulated by using commercial FEM package ProCAST(TM) with view factor radiation method. The solid fraction in mushy zone was directly measured by Differential thermal analysis(DTA-DSC mode). Three types gating design. considering liquid flow and heat release through it. were proposed. Solidification had begun at the ribs or thin sections of the IPS casting and advanced further through the upper and lower gates. The computed temperature gradient G and G/R values at 70% solidified temperature were used for prediction of microshrinkage formation during casting. The effect of mold preheat on the thermal history of the casting displayed minute effect on the microshrinkage formation.
In this article, the problem of a two-dimensional thermoelastic half-space are studied using mathematical methods under the purview of the generalized thermoelastic theory with one relaxation time is studied. The surface of the half-space is taken to be thermally insulated and traction free. Accordingly, the variations of physical quantities due to by laser pulse given by the heat input. The nonhomogeneous governing equations have been written in the form of a vector-matrix differential equation, which is then solved by the eigenvalue approach. The analytical solutions are obtained for the temperature, the components of displacement and stresses. The resulting quantities are depicted graphically for different values of thermal relaxation time. The result provides a motivation to investigate the effect of the thermal relaxation time on the physical quantities.
