This contribution reports on the potential of L-band Permanent Scatterer technique for the detection and monitoring of ground subsidence. We present the use of PS in the abandoned mining area, Korea. Discrete and temporarily stable natural reflectors or permanent scatterers (PS) can be identified from long temporal series of interferometric SAR images. This subset of image pixels can be exploited successfully for high accuracy differential measurements (Ferretti et al., 2000).
Peak interval for reversible permeability is presented for nondestructively evaluating the remanent life of 1Cr-0.5Mo steel. The method to measure the peak interval of reversible permeability is based on the value of reversible permeability is the same as the differential value of the hysteresis loop. The measurement principle is based on the first harmonics voltage induced in a sensing coil using a lock-in amplifier tuned to a frequency of the exciting voltage. Results obtained for the peak interval of reversible permeability and Rockwell hardness on the aged samples decrease as aging time and the Larson-Miller parameter increase. We could estimate the remanent life of 1Cr-0.5Mo steel by using the relationship between the peak interval of reversible permeability and the Larson-Miller parameter, nondestructively.

Compressive sensing (CS) has drawn much interest as a new sampling technique that enables signals to be sampled at a much lower than the Nyquist rate. By noting that the block-based compressive sensing can still keep spatial correlation in measurement domain, in this paper, we propose a novel encoding technique for measurement data obtained in the block-based CS of natural image. We apply discrete wavelet transform (DWT) to decorrelate CS measurements and then assign a proper quantization scheme to those DWT coefficients. Thus, redundancy of CS measurements and bitrate of system are reduced remarkably. Experimental results show improvements in rate-distortion performance by the proposed method against two existing methods of scalar quantization (SQ) and differential pulse-code modulation (DPCM). In the best case, the proposed method gains up to 4 dB, 0.9 dB, and 2.5 dB compared with the Block-based CS-Smoothed Projected Landweber plus SQ, Block-based CS-Smoothed Projected Landweber plus DPCM, and Multihypothesis Block-based CS-Smoothed Projected Landweber plus DPCM, respectively.
SeNtinel's Application Platform (SNAP) is an open source software developed by the European Space Agency and consists of several toolboxes that process data from Sentinel satellite series, including SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) and optical satellites. Among them, S1TBX (Sentinel-1 ToolBoX)is mainly used to process Sentinel-1A/BSAR images and interferometric techniques. It provides flowchart processing method such as Graph Builder, and has convenient functions including automatic downloading of DEM (Digital Elevation Model) and image mosaicking. Therefore, if computer memory is sufficient, InSAR (Interferometric SAR) and DInSAR (Differential InSAR) perform smoothly and are widely used recently in the world through rapid upgrades. S1TBX also includes existing SAR data processing functions, and since version 5, the processing capability of KOMPSAT-5 has been added. This paper shows an example of processing the interference technique of KOMPSAT-5 SAR image using S1TBX of SNAP. In the open mine of Tavan Tolgoi in Mongolia, the difference between DEM obtained in KOMPSAT-5 in 2015 and SRTM 1sec DEM obtained in 2000 was analyzed. It was found that the maximum depth of 130 meters was excavated and the height of the accumulated ore is over 70 meters during 15 years. Tidal and topographic InSAR signals were observed in the glacier area near Jangbogo Antarctic Research Station, but SNAP was not able to treat it due to orbit error and DEM error. In addition, several DInSAR images were made in the Iraqi desert region, but many lines appearing in systematic errors were found on coherence images. Stacking for StaMPS application was not possible due to orbit error or program bug. It is expected that SNAP can resolve the problem owing to a surge in users and a very fast upgrade of the software.
$NO_2$ vertical column densities were retrieved via ground based Multi-Axis Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (MAX-DOAS) measurements for the first time for 6 months over the spring season in 2007 and 2008 in Seoul, one the megacities in the Northeast Asia. The retrieved $NO_2$ vertical column densities were compared with those obtained from space borneOzone Monitoring Instrument (OMI). Over the entire measurement period, the $NO_2$ vertical column densities measured by MAX-DOAS ranged from $1.0{\times}10^{15}molec{\cdot}cm^{-2}$ to $6.0{\times}10^{16}molec{\cdot}cm^{-2}$ while those obtained by OMI ranged $1.0{\times}10^{15}molec{\cdot}cm^{-2}$ to $7.0{\times}10^{16}molec{\cdot}cm^{-2}$. The correlation coefficient between $NO_2$ vertical column densities obtained from MAX-DOAS and OMI is 0.73 for the entire measurement period whereas the correlation coefficient of 0.85 is found for the dates under the clear sky condition. The cloudy condition is thought to play a major role in increase in uncertainty of the retrieved OMI $NO_2$ vertical column densities since air mass factor may induce high uncertainty due to the lack of cloud and aerosol vertical distribution information.

In this study, the effects of differential heating by land-use types on flow and air temperature at an Seoul Automated Synoptic Observing Systems (ASOS) located at Songwol-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul was analyzed. For this, a computation fluid dynamics (CFD) model was coupled to the local data assimilation and prediction system (LDAPS) for reflecting the local meteorological characteristics at the boundaries of the CFD model domain. Time variation of temperatures on solid surfaces was calculated using observation data at El-Oued, Algeria of which latitude is similar to that of the target area. Considering land-use type and shadow, surface temperatures were prescribed in the LDAPS-CFD coupled model. The LDAPS overestimated wind speeds and underestimated air temperature compared to the observations. However, a coupled LDAPS-CFD model relatively well reproduced the observed wind speeds and air temperature, considering complicated flows and surface temperatures in the urban area. In the morning when the easterly was dominant around the target area, both the LDAPS and coupled LDAPS-CFD model underestimated the observed temperatures at the Seoul ASOS. This is because the Kyunghee Palace located at the upwind region was composed of green area and its surface temperature was relatively low. However, in the afternoon when the southeasterly was dominant, the LDAPS still underestimated, on the while, the coupled LDAPS-CFD model well reproduced the observed temperatures at the Seoul ASOS by considering the building-surface heating.
In this present study, we quantified the $SO_2$ effect on $O_3$ retrieval from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) measurement. The difference between OMI-Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS) and OMI-Differential Optical Absorption Spectrometer (DOAS) total $O_3$ is calculated in high $SO_2$ volcanic plume on several volcanic eruptions (Anatahan, La Cumbre, Sierra Negra, and Piton) from 2005 through 2008. There is a certain correlation ($R{\geq}0.5$) between the difference and $OMI-SO_2$ in volcanic plumes and the significant difference close to 100 DU. The high $SO_2$ condition found to affect TOMS $O_3$ retrieval significantly due to a strong $SO_2$ absorption at the TOMS $O_3$ retrieval wavelengths. Besides, we calculated the difference against various $SO_2$ levels. There is the considerable difference (average = 32.9 DU; standard deviation = 13.5 DU) in the high $OMI-SO_2$ condition ($OMI-SO_2{\geq}7.0DU$). We also found that the rate of change in the difference per 1.0 DU change in middle troposphere (TRM) and upper troposphere and stratosphere (STL) $SO_2$ columns are 3.9 DU and 4.9 DU, respectively.

Weakly electric fish uses active sensing to detect the distortion of self-generated electric field in the underwater environments. The active electrolocation makes it possible to identify target objects from the surroundings without vision in the dark sea. Weakly electric fish have many electroreceptors over the whole body surface of electric fish, and sensor readings from a collection of electroreceptors are represented as an electric image. Many researchers have worked on finding features in the electric image to know how the weakly electric fish identify the target object. In this paper, we suggest a new mechanism of how the electrolocation can recognize a given target object among object plants. This approach is based on the differential components of the electric image, and has a potential to be applied to the underwater robotic system for object localization.
GPS is one of today's most widely used surveying techniques. But, users can't acquire an enough accuracy in applications of the navigation or geodesy by the GPS positioning technique because of the effects of the ionosphere and troposphere. The solution of these restrictions in the DGPS technique that is to eliminate the common errors and can achieve a high accuracy. Although of sufficient density for good DGPS, accuracy of positioning is just not dense enough to provide complete coverage for real-time positioning, because distances between base and rover is short. In this paper, we suggest Realtime Long-Distance Transmission Method of DGPS Error Correction Signal, which consist of TCP, UDP and IP, which allows a user to increase the distance at which the rover receiver is located from the base, due to radio modem.

The recent interest in artificial intelligence and machine learning has partly contributed to an interest in the use of such approaches for hyperspectral remote sensing (HRS) imagery classification, as evidenced by the increasing number of deep framework with deep convolutional neural networks (CNN) structures proposed in the literature. In these approaches, the assumption of obtaining high quality deep features by using CNN is not always easy and efficient because of the complex data distribution and the limited sample size. In this paper, conventional handcrafted learning-based multi features based on expert knowledge are introduced as the input of a special designed CNN to improve the pixel description and classification performance of HRS imagery. The introduction of these handcrafted features can reduce the complexity of the original HRS data and reduce the sample requirements by eliminating redundant information and improving the starting point of deep feature training. It also provides some concise and effective features that are not readily available from direct training with CNN. Evaluations using three public HRS datasets demonstrate the utility of our proposed method in HRS classification.
