  • A Differential line inductor is proposed for a differential power amplifier. The proposed differential line inductor is composed of two conventional line inductors rearranged to make the current direction of the two line inductors identical. The proposed line inductor is simulated with a 2.5-D and a 3-D EM simulator to verify its feasibility with the substrate information in a 0.18-${\mu}m$ RF CMOS process. The inductances of various line inductors implemented with printed circuit boards were measured. The feasibility of the proposed line inductor was successfully demonstrated.

  • Ground differential relay is used to provide fast, sensitive, and selective protection for the wye connected and grounded electrical power equipment such as generators, power transformers, and grounding transformers. The ground differential protection only protects the ground faults within the protection zone, so that it can't protect the line-to-line fault. This paper proposes the algorithm to provide the protection for the line-to-line fault through the ground differential protection. The proposed algorithm detects the line-to-line fault of transformer using the comparison between the positive and the negative current, when the ground differential relay dose not operate. The performance of the algorithm is verified using a PSCAD/EMTDC simulator under various case studies.

  • Differential signaling has become a popular choice for high-speed interconnection schemes on Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), offering superior immunity to external noise. However, conventional differential transmission lines on PCBs have problems, such as crosstalk and radiated emission. To overcome these, we propose a Twisted Differential Line (TDL) structure on a multi-layer PCB. Its improved immunity to crosstalk noise and the reduced radiated emission has been successfully demonstrated by measurement. The proposed structure is proven to transmit 3 Gbps digital signals with a clear eye-pattern. Furthermore, it is subject to much less crosstalk noise and achieves a 13 dB suppression of radiated emission. • A method for faulted line detection of four parallel lines on the same tower is presented, based on four-summing and double-differential sequences of one terminal current. Four-summing and double-differential sequences of fault current can be calculated using a certain transformation matrix for parameter decoupling of four parallel transmission lines. According to fault boundary conditions, the amplitude and phase characteristics of four-summing and double-differential sequences of fault current is studied under conditions of different types of fault. Through the analysis of the relationship of terminal current and fault current, a novel methodology for fault line detection of four parallel transmission line on the same tower is put forward, which can pick out the fault lines no matter the fault occurs in single line or cross double lines. Simulation results validate that the methodology is correct and reliable under conditions of different load currents, transient resistances and fault locations.

  • Distance relay is being used for transmission line protection. Recently, current differential relay is used with high reliability in power system. This kind of relay is reported that it has a reliable detection ability, even so high impedance faults take place in transmission line. Therefore it is expected to use and expand widely in many utilities. Tripping of the relay is decided according to the difference between differential and restraint current. However the tripping criterion can be changed by the manufacturers. This paper presents an operational scheme of current differential relay for transmission line protection with graphical model. It is developed for educational purpose for students interesting in power system and protection engineer in utility. MATLAB is used to establish the models.

  • In designing System Protection Schemes (SPSs) in power systems, protecting transmission network against extreme undesired conditions becomes a significant challenge in mitigating the transmission line overloading. This paper presents an intelligent Special Protection and Control Scheme (SPCS) using of Differential Evolution with Adaptive Mutation (DEAM) approach to obtain the optimum generation rescheduling to solve the transmission line overloading problem in system contingency conditions. DEAM algorithm employs the attraction-repulsion idea that is applied in the electromagnetism-like algorithm to support the mutation process of the conventional Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm. Different N-1 contingency conditions under base and increase load demand are considered in this paper. Simulation results have been compared with those acquired from Genetic Algorithm (GA) application. Minimum severity index has been considered as the objective function. The final results show that the presented DEAM method offers better performance than GA in terms of faster convergence and less generation fuel cost. IEEE 30-bus test system has been used to prove the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed algorithm.

  • Dynamic analysis of a transmission line which is compensated by a FACTS device such as STATCOM, SSSC and UPFC is carried out in this paper and the impacts on conventional line protection methods such as the DCPM (Differential Current Protection Method) and the DPM (Distance Protection Method) are reviewed. A refined DCRM is proposed to detect faults properly regardless of the FACTS operation. The proposed method is applied to a FACTS-compensated line with a variety of faults and is verified by simulation results. An adaptive DPM on a FACTS-compensated line was proposed previously in the literature. In order to emphasize the necessity of the modified DPM, the conventional DPM is applied to a FACTS-compensated system. Significant factors such as fault types, fault locations, and fault resistances as well as FACTS device types are considered for relaying setting.

  • In this paper, we present a miniaturized differential line (DL) using inductance-enhanced corrugated ground planes (LCGP) for effective common-mode (CM) noise suppression in high-speed packages and printed circuit boards. The LCGP-DL demonstrates the CM noise suppression in the frequency range from 2.09 GHz to 3.6 GHz. Furthermore, to achieve the same low cutoff frequency, the LCGP-DL accomplishes a remarkable 23.2% reduction in size compared to a reference DL.

  • The differential heterodyne interferometer (DHI) is suitable for precise measurement of step height and line width, since its differential configuration can significantly reduce disturbances from the environment [1,2]. Like most phase measuring interferometers, however, the DHI is limited, in that it can obtain only the phase from 0 to 2π, because of the sinusoidal nature of the optical interference involved. Thus, the measurable step height is limited to one quarter of the wavelength of the light source. This study describes a confocal differential heterodyne interferometer (CDHI) for measuring step heights of several micrometers, with a high resolution and line width with high repeatability. The CDHI has a simple structure and rapid measurement speed.
