A Study on the Hand-written Number Recognition by HMM(Hidden Markov Model) (HMM을 이용한 수기숫자 인식에 관한 연구)

  • In the most of recognizing systems of hand-written numbers. extraction of feature shape by using character elements shapes and a method of morphological analysis by using then extraction of feature shapes were usually used. In this paper, however, peculiar chain-code is used, and differential code which gets minimal value by differentiating the chain-code which is generated by the peculiar chain-code is made. We found this differential code is very successful in discriminating hand-written numbers according to the result of applying to most of the hand-written numbers. Testing recognition of hand-written numbers by HMM network. From the results, we can recognize of 96.1 percentage hand-written numbers but can not recognize extremely distorted hand-written numbers.

Writer Verification Using Spatial Domain Features under Different Ink Width Conditions

  • In this paper, we present a comparative study of spatial domain features for writer identification and verification with different ink width conditions. The existing methods give high error rates, when comparing two handwritten images with different pen types. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to design the feature with different ink width conditions. To address this problem, contour based features were extracted using a chain code method. To improve accuracy at higher levels, we considered histograms of chain code and variance in bins of histogram of chain code as features to discriminate handwriting samples. The system was trained and tested for 1,000 writers with two samples using different writing instruments. The feature performance is tested on our newly created dataset of 4,000 samples. The experimental results show that the histogram of chain code feature is good compared to other methods with false acceptance rate of 11.67%, false rejection rate of 36.70%, average error rates of 24.18%, and average verification accuracy of 75.89% on our new dataset. We also studied the effect of amount of text and dataset size on verification accuracy.

Effective Image Retrieval for the M-Learning System (모바일 교육 시스템을 위한 효율적인 영상 검색 구축)

  • As the educational media tends to be more digitalized and individualized, the learning paradigm is dramatically changing into e-learning. Existing on-line courseware gives a learner more chances to learn when they are home with their own PCs. However, it is of little use when they are away from their digital media. Also, it is very labor-intensive to convert the original off-line contents to on-line contents. This paper proposes education mobile contents(EMC) that can supply the learners with dynamic interactions using various multimedia information by recognizing real images of off-line contents using mobile devices. Content-based image retrieval based on object shapes is used to recognize the real image, and shapes are represented by differential chain code with estimated new starting points to obtain rotation-invariant representation, which is fitted to computational resources of mobile devices with low resolution camera. Moreover we use a dynamic time warping method to recognize the object shape, which compensates scale variations of an object. The EMC can provide learners with quick and accurate on-line contents on off-line ones using mobile devices without limitations of space.

Triqubit-State Measurement-Based Image Edge Detection Algorithm

  • Aiming at the problem that the gradient-based edge detection operators are sensitive to the noise, causing the pseudo edges, a triqubit-state measurement-based edge detection algorithm is presented in this paper. Combing the image local and global structure information, the triqubit superposition states are used to represent the pixel features, so as to locate the image edge. Our algorithm consists of three steps. Firstly, the improved partial differential method is used to smooth the defect image. Secondly, the triqubit-state is characterized by three elements of the pixel saliency, edge statistical characteristics and gray scale contrast to achieve the defect image from the gray space to the quantum space mapping. Thirdly, the edge image is outputted according to the quantum measurement, local gradient maximization and neighborhood chain code searching. Compared with other methods, the simulation experiments indicate that our algorithm has less pseudo edges and higher edge detection accuracy.

A Study on the Pattern Segmentation and Classification in Specially Documentated Imaged (제한된 문서 영상에서 패턴 분절과 구분 처리에 관한 연구)

  • In order to design the automatic processing system of image document, the pattern segmentation of image document and classification methods are presented. The contour extraction using first order differential operator of Gauassian distribution fucntions, the image segmentation using the chain code, and the pattern classication using the second order moments and two=dimensional Rf distance(in transform domain) are implemented. The resuts applied in specially documantated image shows to classify the characters, fingerprints, seals etc well. And the utility of the used algorithms is verified.

  • When the GPS system was come to the operation, the U.S Coast Guard initiated development of differential GPS system based on a marine radiobeacon. It has rapidly been spread out to many countries. DGPS equals to P(Y) code in a positioning accuracy. USA has recently determined to expand the coverage of DGPS to inland in order to install a nationwide DGPS chain. Korea is under processing for improving the DGPS as a nationwide positioning system. Before expanding the service area inside Korea, we need to verify the relation between the field strength and DGPS accuracy for the service area. The Japanese DGPS data is received in the southern Part of the Korean peninsula. The Korean DGPS was not a complete system, so we selected the Japanese DGPS data as a model for the study. This paper investigate accuracy and reliability characteristics of RBN/DGPS over the effective service area. Through the experimental and simulation study, we obtained the reliable and stable positioning accuracy in the southern part of the Korean peninsula. In addition, the characteristics of RBN/DGPS were examined in the land over the effective coverage from Japan. The results would be a basic reference to research the RBN/NDGPS in Korea.
