Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate the thickness of deep neck flexors (DNF) and sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM) bilaterally during deep neck flexor endurance test using ultrasonography images. Methods: Healthy volunteers (n=22), 20-25 (mean 22.2) years old, were recruited for the study. Participants were asked to perform the craniocervical flexion test (CCFT) in a seated position to measure deep neck flexor endurance. The thickness of DNF and SCM was assessed bilaterally and was measured using ultrasonography images at resting, contracted, pre-terminal and terminal phases of the neck muscle endurance test. Muscle contraction pattern was also observed along with the changes in muscle thickness from the resting phase to the terminal phase. Repeated-measure ANOVA was employed to compare muscle thickness bilaterally at each phase. Results: The thickness of right and left muscles was found to be significantly different in DNF both at resting and contracted phases (p=0.02, p<0.01, respectively), whereas no significant difference was observed in SCM at resting or contracted phases (p=0.59, p=0.18, respectively). Thickness changes from resting to contracted phase were not significantly different both in DNF and SCM (p=0.18, p=0.22, respectively). Muscle contraction patterns in right and left muscles were shown to be similar. Conclusion: The current study, performed on (with) healthy subjects, significantly detected different right and left muscle thickness in DNF, but the muscle contraction patterns were similar in DNF and SCM bilaterally. Further study is required to investigate DNF and SCM muscle size and function in people with neck pain.
Background: Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is characterized by pain and limited range of motion in the jaw. TMD patients generally prefer to chew on the unaffected or less-affected side, and this tendency often results in asymmetries in masseter muscle thickness and range of mandibular motion. Objects: The purpose of this study was to compare the asymmetries in masseter muscle thickness and range of mandibular motion in subjects with and without temporomandibular disorders. Methods: Thirty-nine subjects were divided into two groups: A TMD group ($n_1=19$) and a control group ($n_2=20$). The jaw opening range and laterotrusion were measured using a digital vernier caliper. The masseter muscle thickness was examined in both the resting state and the maximal clenching state using ultrasonography. The absolute asymmetry indices calculated based on the laterotrusion and masseter muscle thickness of the respective right and left sides. A two-way ANOVA and a Mann-Whitney U test were used for statistical analysis. Results: No significant different was found in the masseter muscle thickness between the TMD and control group. A significant difference was found in the absolute asymmetry indices of mandibular laterotrusion between the TMD and control groups (p<.05). Furthermore, the ranges of jaw opening were significantly different between males and females (p<.05). The absolute asymmetry index values of masseter muscle thickness at rest and during maximal clenching were also significantly different between males and females (p<.05). Conclusion: These results demonstrated that the subjects with TMD had a larger degree of asymmetry in laterotrusion than those without TMD. Therefore, a physiotherapy program needs to be designed to restore normal laterotrusion capacities for TMD subjects. These results also showed that female subjects had greater absolute asymmetry indices in masseter muscle thickness than male subjects. Therefore, more training is needed to promote bilaterally balanced chewing among women.
Mesoporous silica films with three different pore sizes were prepared by using cationic surfactant, non-ionic surfactant, or triblock copolymer as structure directing agents with tetramethylorthosilicate as silica source in order to control the pore size and wall thickness. They were synthesized by an evaporation-induced self-assembly process and spin-coated on Si wafer. Mesoporous silica films with three different pore sizes of 2.9, 4.6, and 6.6 nm and wall thickness ranging from $\sim$1 to $\sim$3 nm were prepared by using three different surfactants. These materials were optically transparent mesoporous silica films and crack free when thickness was less than 1 m m. The photoluminescence spectra found in the visible range were peaked at higher energy for smaller pore and thinner wall sized materials, consistent with the quantum confinement effect within the nano-sized walls of the silica pores.

The study was performed to investigate the thickness of lamina dura of the human teeth in normal condition, which obtained from the intraoral roentgenograms of the 1200 cases taken by bisecting technique. All films were divided into the different ages, the different sexes, and the different location of the different teeth. The obtained results were as follows: 1. With advancing age in both sexes, the lamina dura tends to become thinner as following. (equation omitted) 2. Generally, the alveolar crest is the thickest among the root surfaces, and apex, midroot followed, and the average thickness of the posterior teeth is thicker than that of the anterior teeth. 3. The mean value of the whole maxillary teeth is larger than the one of the whole mandibular teeth. 4. On the whole cases, the differences of male and female is about 0.019㎜, which is not a significant differences.

This study examined the motif, weave structure, fabric density, and thread thickness of the patterned silks excavated from the Lady Lee's Tomb to trace the weave composition of the 18th Century in Korea. Different weave compositions were adopted depending on the weave structure. Two weave structures appeared in these patterned silks : simple gauze and satin damask. In the case of simple gauze Jergori, all the components, Gil(bodice), Somae(Sleeve) had similar fabric density and thread thickness. On the other hand, the satin damask Jergoris was composed of the components of different fabric density and thread thickness. According to the fabric density and thread thickness, the motif sharpness of damask Jergori was represented in three different ways : smooth and clear, rough and clear, and rough and vague. This revealed that Lady Lee selected not only pattern but also fabric density and thread thickness in the design of damask Jergori.

Resistance distribution in thin film type SFCL elements of different shunt layer thickness was investigated. The 300 nm thick film of 2 inch diameter was coated with a gold layer and patterned into 2 mm wide meander lines. The shunt layer thickness was varied by ion milling the shunt layer with Ar ions, and also by having the shunt layer grown in different thickness. The SFCL element was subjected to simulated AC fault current for measurements. It was immersed in liquid nitrogenduring the experiment. The resistance distribution was not affected by the shunt layer thickness at applied voltages that brought the temperature of the elements to similar values. This result could be explained with the concept of heat transfer from the film to the surroundings. The resistance distribution was independent of the shunt layer thickness because thick sapphire substrates of high thermal conductivity dominated the thermal conductance of the elements.
Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare the marginal fit of POM restorations with 3 different thickness of metal coping. Methods: 2.0mm Occlusal reduction, 1.0mm preparation of axial wall with 6degree taper, and chamfer margin was prepared a maxillary first premolar on dentiform. Duplicate prepared die and, make 30 individual dies with Ni-Cr metal. Make 3 groups of 30 press ceramic on Metal crown with different thickness of metal coping; 10 of 0.1mm, 10 of 0.3mm, 10 of 0.5mm thickness metal coping. The marginal fit of the crowns was evaluated 50 points per 1 crown, around the crown margin circumference under a optical microscope at original magnification ${\times}100$. A 1-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to compare data. Results: The mean marginal discrepancy for POM with 0.1mm metal copings was $72.56{\mu}m$, $67.83{\mu}m$ for 0.3mm metal coping POMs, and $72.56{\mu}m$ for 0.5mm metal coping POM. The 1-way ANOVA showed significant difference among 3 groups. Conclusion: The marginal fit of pressed-on-metal (POMs) was best with 0.3mm thickness of metal coping, fallowing by 0.1mm, and 0.5mm in the order.

This paper presents the performance of a planar, low-profile, and wide-gain-bandwidth leaky-wave slit antenna in different thickness values of high-permittivity gallium arsenide substrates at terahertz frequencies. The proposed antenna designs consisted of a periodic array of $5{\times}5$ metallic square patches and a planar feeding structure. The patch array was printed on the top side of the substrate, and the feeding structure, which is an open-ended leaky-wave slot line, was etched on the bottom side of the substrate. The antenna performed as a Fabry-Perot cavity antenna at high thickness levels ($H=160{\mu}m$ and $H=80{\mu}m$), thus exhibiting high gain but a narrow gain bandwidth. At low thickness levels ($H=40{\mu}m$ and $H=20{\mu}m$), it performed as a metasurface antenna and showed wide-gain-bandwidth characteristics with a low gain value. Aside from the advantage of achieving useful characteristics for different antennas by just changing the substrate thickness, the proposed antenna design exhibited a low profile, easy integration into circuit boards, and excellent low-cost mass production suitability.

The electrical properties and microstructure of nitrogen-doped poly 3C-SiC films were studied according to different thickness. Poly 3C-SiC films were deposited by LPCVD(low pressure chemical vapor deposition) at $900^{\circ}C$ and 4 Torr using $SiH_2Cl_2$ (100 %, 35 sccm) and $C_2H_2$ (5 % in $H_2$, 180 sccm) as the Si and C precursors, and $NH_3$ (5 % in $H_2$, 64 sccm) as the dopant source gas. The resistivity of the 3C-SiC films with $1,530{\AA}$ of thickness was $32.7{\Omega}-cm$ and decreased to $0.0129{\Omega}-cm$ at $16,963{\AA}$. In XRD spectra, 3C-SiC is so highly oriented along the (1 1 1) plane at $2{\theta}=35.7^{\circ}$ that other peaks corresponding to SiC orientations are not presented. The measurement of resistance variations according to different thickness were carried out in the $25^{\circ}C$ to $350^{\circ}C$ temperature range. While the size of resistance variation decreases with increasing the films thickness, the linearity of resistance variation improved.
The fractures in coal are the main migration and output channels of coalbed methane, directly influencing the permeability of the coal seams. It is of great significance to study the effect of fracture distribution in coals on the permeability of coal seam. The development rules of endogenetic and exogenetic fractures are different among various coal lithotypes. There is also difference in the fracture density for the same lithotype with different thicknesses. Through the observation and description of the macroscopic fractures in coal and the origin of fractures in coal, the effect of the coal lithotype and its thickness on fracture development in coal was discussed. It was found through the study that the density of fractures in vitrain band was the maximum for the same coal rank and thickness, followed by clarain band. There were few fractures developed in the durain band. However, the changes of fracture density in three types of bands presented different declining trends for low, medium and high coal rank. There were no fractures developed in the fusain. There were three variation patterns for the fracture densities at the same coal rank and coal lithotype: linear decrease, nonlinear decrease, and first decrease then remaining unchanged. However, the overall trend was that the fracture density decreased with the increase of thickness of coal band for the same coal rank and coal lithotype.
