  • Theoretical analysis is carried out for the beat frequency generation phenomena in the IMPATT diodes an4 the experimental studies are given in parrallel. The theory is based on the space charge modulation effect introduced to the multiplication process by the input signal. Computed results show that the beat frequency output power is linearly dependent upon the signal power and self oscillating power. Also the strong dependence of the output power with respect to the diode negative resistance is found and it turns out that the larger the negative resistance, the stronger the beat frequency output power. Experimental results show a good agreement with the theoretical values. Calculated conversion gain is about -0.4[db] at 10[GHz] and the experimental value shows -6.2[db] below this value. This difference between the theoretical and the experimental values is considered to be the results of the ineffective injection of signal power.

  • This experiment was conducted to examine characteristics of agronomic characters and estimate of gene effect for several mutant characters. The genetic populations were derived from cross between 83H-5 and Hicks. There were significant difference for plant height, stlk height, leaf shape and bacterial wilt disease index except leaf number, leaf length, and what is more, F3 variance is more than Bl and B2 generation from cross 83H-5 X Hicks. Gene actions for stalk height and bacterial wilt disease were estimated by 3-parameter, and by 6- parameter model for all characters except above two characters but stalk height and bacterial wilt disease index are not significant in the additive and dominance effects. Dominant$\times$dominant epitasis for plant height, dominant and dominant$\times$dominant epistasis for leaf length, additive and additive$\times$additive and dominant$\times$dominant epistasis for leaf width, and additive and additive$\times$dominant epistasis for days to flower were appeared significant in gene action.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of landing height on the lower extremity during a counter movement jump. Fourteen healthy male subjects (age: $27.00{\pm}2.94$ yr, height: $179.07{\pm}5.03$ cm, weight: $78.79{\pm}6.70$ kg) participated in this study. Each subject randomly performed three single-leg jumps after s single-leg drop landing (counter movement jump) on a force platform from a 20 cm and 30 cm platform. Paired t-test (SPSS 18.0; SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL) was performed to determine the difference in kinematics and kinetics according to the height. All significance levels were set at p<.05. The results were as follows. First, ankle and knee joint angles in the sagittal plane increased in response to increasing landing height. Second, ankle and knee joint angles in the frontal plane increased in response to increasing landing height. Third, there were no significant differences in the moment of each segment in the sagittal plane for the jumping height increment. Fourth, ankle eversion moment and knee valgus moment decreased but hip abduction moment increased for the jumping height increment. Fifth, Ankle and knee joint powers increased. In percentage contribution, the ankle joint increased but the knee and hip joints decreased at a greater height. Lastly, as jumping height increased, the power generation at the ankle joint increased. Our findings indicate that the height increment affect on the landing mechanism the might augment loads at the ankle and knee joints.

  • Low-temperature grown (LTG) InGaAs epilayers were grown by MBE technique for studying a correlation between terahertz (THz) emission and the intrinsic defects. The 1.2-um-thick Be-compensated LTG-InGaAs epilayers were prepared on SI-InP:Fe substrate at $200-250^{\circ}C$, and subsequently in-situ annealed under As environment at $550^{\circ}C$ for 5-30 minutes. The carrier concentration/mobility and the crystalline structure were analyzed by the Hall effect and the x-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively, and the carrier lifetime were determined by the fs time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopy. THz generation from LTG-InGaAs was carried out by a Ti-sapphire laser (800 nm) of a pulse width of 190 fs at a repetition of 76 MHz. Figure shows the spectral amplitude of generated waves in the THz region. As the growth temperature of epilayer increases, the amplitude is enhanced. However, two samples grown at $200^{\circ}C$, as-grown and annealed, show almost no difference in the spectral amplitude. This suggests that the growth temperature is critical in the formation of defect states involved in THz emission. We are now investigating the correlations between the XRD band attributed to defects, the Hall parameter, and the spectral amplitude of generated THz wave.

  • Several electrical loads such as inrush current, normal operation arcing and non-sinusoidal loads have normal current waveforms similar to arc waveforms. To detect arcs in such loads, therefore, it is necessary to analyze difference between current waveforms with or without arcs. In this paper, using apparatuses of arc generation in UL 1699, arcs are generated in these loads and, then, arc current waveforms are investigated in both the time and the frequency domains to find arc characteristics. This investigation shows that arc current signals have shoulders at some zero current points in the time domain and increment of spectrum magnitude in all over frequency domain. It also shows that the arc characteristics at normal operation arcing and non-sinusoidal loads are detected more easily in the frequency domain than in the time domain. This investigated arc characteristics are expected to be utilized as the basis of development of arc-fault circuit interrupters.

  • In this paper, the architecture of Dynamic GSMP V3(General Switch Management Protocol Version 3), an open interface protocol with resource management functions for efficient IP service on ATM over MPLS, is proposed and implemented in hardware. And we compare and analyze the proposed GSMP with the GSMP under standardization process in terms of CLR (Cell Loss Rate). We design the Slave block of the Dynamic GSMP V3 using SAM-SUNG SoG $0.5{\mu}m$ process, which performs functions for switch connection control in the ATM Switch. In order to compare difference performanaces between the proposed method and the conventional one, we conducts simulations using the minimum buffer search algorithm with random cell generation. The exponential results show that the proposed method leads to performance enhancement in CLR.

  • Since MOLA(Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter) data, which provides altimetry data for Mars, does not cover the whole Mars area, image matching with MOC imagery should be implemented for the generation of DEM. However, automatic image matching is difficult because of insufficient features and low contrast. In this paper, we present the area based semi-automatic image matching algorithm with MOC-NA(Mars Orbiter Camera ? Narrow Angle) imagery. To accomplish this, seed points describing conjugate points are manually added for the stereo imagery, and interesting points are automatically produced by using such seed points. Produced interesting points being used as initial conjugate points, area based image matching is implemented. For the points which fail to match, the locations of initial conjugate points are recalculated by using matched six points and image matching process is re-implemented. The quality assessment by reversing the role of target and search image shows 97.5 % of points were laid within one pixel absolute difference.

  • The power production using hub height wind speed tends to be overestimated than actual power production. It is because the hub height wind speed cannot represent vertical wind shear and blade tip loss that aerodynamics characteristic on the wind turbine. The commercial CFD model WindSim is used to compare and analyze each power production. A classification of atmospheric stability is accomplished by Monin-Obukhov length. The concentric wind speed constantly represents low value than horizontal equivalent wind speed or hub height wind speed, and also relevant to power production. The difference between hub height wind speed and concentric equivalent wind speed is higher in nighttime than daytime. Under the strongly convective state, power production is lower than under the stable state, especially using the concentric equivalent wind speed. Using the concentric equivalent wind speed considering vertical wind shear and blade tip loss is well estimated to decide suitable area for constructing wind farm.

  • Non-orthogonal multiple access is the promised candidates in the next generation wireless networks to improve the spectral efficiency by superposing multiple signals. In general, the superposition coding is performed using the difference in channel gain between users based on the user's power allocation. However, when user pairs have the similar channel gain problem, NOMA can not be allowed in the scenario. To overcome this problem, phase rotation based NOMA is presented to increase minimum distance between superposed signals in the constellation point. This paper proposed a novel non-orthogonal multiple access based index modulation using phase rotation. The additional bits can transfer using the index bits that is allocated according to the activated state of the phase rotation. Simulation results are shown that bit error rate and achievable sum rate are better than conventional NOMA.

  • A very high-temperature gas reactor (VHTR) is one of the next generation nuclear reactors owing to its safety, high energy efficiency, and proliferation-resistance. Heat is transferred from the primary helium loop to the secondary helium loop through an intermediate heat exchanger (IHX). Under VHTR environment Alloy 617 is being considered a candidate Ni-based superalloy for the IHX of a VHTR, owing to its good creep resistance, phase stability and corrosion resistance at high temperature. In this study, high-temperature corrosion tests were carried out at 850 - $950^{\circ}C$ in air and impure helium environments. Alloy 617 specimens showed a parabolic oxidation behavior for all temperatures and environments. The activation energy for oxidation was 154 kJ/mol in helium environment, and 261 kJ/mol in an air environment. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) results revealed that there were a Cr-rich surface oxide layer, Al-rich internal oxides and depletion of grain boundary carbide after corrosion test. The thickness and depths of degraded layers also showed a parabolic relationship with the time. A corrosion rate of $950^{\circ}C$ in impure helium was higher than that in an air environment, caused by difference in the outer oxide morphology.
