Difference equation is useful for control algorithm in the microprocessor. To approximate a derivative values from sampled data, it is used the methods of forward, backward and central differences. The key of computing discrete derivative values is the finite difference coefficient. The focus of this paper is a new approach method of finite difference formula. And we apply the proposed method to the recursive least squares(RLS) algorithm.

This study is to develop a model to predict the soil temperature variation in Korea Institute of Energy Research using its thermal properties, such as thermal conductivity and diffusivity. Soil depth temperature variation is very important in the design of a proper Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) system. This is because the size of the borehole depends on the soil temperature distribution, and this can decrease GSHP system cost. If the thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity are known, the soil temperature can be predicted by either the Krarti equation or the Spitler equation. Then a comparison with the Krarti equation and Spitler equation data with the real measured data can be performed. Also, the thermal properties can be reasonably approximated by performing a fit of the Krarti and Spitler equations with measured temperature data. This was done and, as a result, the Krarti equation and Spitler equation predicted values very close to the measured data. Although there is about a $0.5^{\circ}C$ difference between the deep subsurface prediction (16m - 60m), with this equation, were expected to have model this Non-Homogeneous Soil Temperature phenomenon properly. So, it has been shown that a prediction of non-homogeneous soil temperature variation influenced by solar radiation can be achieved with a model.

In this paper, the wakes behind a square cylinder were simulated using two kinds of different turbulence models for the eddy viscosity concept such as the zero- and the one-equation model in which the former is the mixing length model and the latter is the k-equation model. For comparison between numerical and analytical solutions, we employed three skill assessments: the correlation coefficient(r) for the similarity of the wake shape, the error of maximum velocity difference(EMVD) for the accuracy of wake velocity and the ratio of drag coefficient(RDC) for the pressure distribution around the structure. On the basis of the numerical results, the feasibility of each model for wake simulation was discussed and a suitable value for the empirical constant was suggested in these turbulence models. The zero-equation model, known as the simplest turbulence model, overestimated the EMVD and its absolute mean error(AME) for r, EMVD and RDC was ranging from 20.3 % to 56.3 % for all test. But the AME by the one-equation model was ranging from 3.4 % to 19.9 %. The predicted values of the one-equation model substantially agreed with the analytical solutions at the empirical mixing length scale $L=0.6b_{1/2}$ with the AME of 3.4 %. Therefore it was concluded that the one-equation model was suitable for the wake simulation behind a square cylinder when the empirical constant for eddy viscosity would be properly chosen.

The thickness of adsorbed molecular layers is the most critical factor in studying thin-film lubrication, and it is the most essential parameter that distinguishes thin-film from thick-film lubrication analysis. The thin film between the shaft and bearing surface within a very narrow gap was considered. The general Reynolds equation has been derived for calculating thin-film lubrication parameters affecting the performance of the circular journal bearing. Investigation of the load-carrying capacity and pressure distribution for the journal bearing considering the adsorbed layer thickness has been carried out. A Reynolds equation appropriate for the journal bearing is used in this paper for the analysis, and it is discussed using the finite difference method of the central difference scheme. The parameters, such as eccentricity and attitude angle, are used for discussing the load-carrying capacity of the journal bearing. The results reported in this paper should be applied to analysis of the journal bearing with different lubrication factors. The steady-state analysis of the journal bearing is conducted using the Reynolds model under thin-film lubrication conditions. For a journal bearing, several parameters, such as a pressure, load capacity, and pressure components of the bearing can be obtained, and these results can be stored in a sequential data file for later analysis. Finally, their distribution can be displayed and analyzed easily by using the MATLAB GUI technique. The load-carrying capability of the journal bearing is observed for the specified operating conditions. This work could be helpful for the understanding and research of the mechanism of thin-film lubrication.

Finite number of pile elements are considered in load transfer method. And section force and movement of each pile element are computed by considering compatibilities between pile displacement and the load transfer along a pile and between displacement and resistance at the tip of the pile. For the conventional load transfer method, large amount of computations due to iterations are needed. Formulation of finite difference equation from the differential equation which depicts pile behavior under axial loading was accomplished in order to simplify the computation for obtaining pile section forces and displacements. By comparing the results between the simplified computation method and the reported data, there was no difference between the two results.

Some methods of analysis of rectangular plates under distributed load of various intensity with interior supports are presented herein. Analysis of many structures such as bottom, side shell, and deck plate of ship hull and flat slab, with or without internal supports, Floor systems of bridges, included crthotropic bridges is a problem of plate with elastic supports or continuous edges. When the four edges of rectangular plate is simply supported, the double Fourier series solution developed by Navier can represent an exact result of this problem. If two opposite edges are simply supported, Levy's method is available to give an "exact" solution. When the loading condition and supporting condition of a plate does not fall into these cases, no simple analytic method seems to be feasible. Analysis of a simply supported rectangular plate under irregularly distributed loads of various intensity with internal supports is carried out by applying Navier solution well as the "Principle of Superposition." Finite difference technique is used to solve plates under irregularly distributed loads of various intensity with internal supports and with various boundary conditions. When finite difference technique is applied to the Lagrange's plate bending equation, any of fourth order derivative term in this equation produces at least five pivotal points leading to some troubles when the resulting linear algebraic equations are to be solved. This problem was solved by reducing the order of the derivatives to two: the fourth order partial differential equation with one dependent variable, namely deflection, is changed to an equivalent pair of second order partial differential equations with two dependent variables. Finite difference technique is then applied to transform these equations to a set of simultaneous linear algebraic equations. Principle of Superposition is then applied to handle the problems caused by concentrated loads and interior supports. This method can be used for the cases of plates under irregularly distributed loads of various intensity with arbitrary conditions such as elastic supports, or continuous edges with or without interior supports, and this method can also be solve the influence values of deflection, moment and etc. at arbitrary position of plates under the live load.

A time-domain combined field integral equation (CFIE) is presented to obtain the transient scattering response from arbitrarily shaped three-dimensional conducting bodies. This formulation is based on a linear combination of the time-domain electric field integral equation (EFIE) with the magnetic field integral equation (MFIE). The time derivative of the magnetic vector potential in EFIE is approximated using a central finite difference approximation and the scalar potential is averaged over time. The time-domain CFIE approach produces results that are accurate and stable when solving for transient scattering responses from conducting objects. The incident spectrum of the field may contain frequency components, which correspond to the internal resonance of the structure. For the numerical solution, we consider both the explicit and implicit scheme and use two different kinds of Gaussian pulses, which may contain frequencies corresponding to the internal resonance. Numerical results for the EFIE, MFIE, and CFIE are presented and compared with those obtained from the inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT) of the frequency-domain CFIE solution.
A particular empirical equation for rainfall kinetic energy is needed to compute rainfall erosivity, calculated by the annual sum of the product of total rainfall energy and maximum 30-min rainfall intensity. If rainfall kinetic energy equation was different, rainfall erosivity will be produced differently. However, the previous studies in Korea had little concern about rainfall kinetic energy equation and it was not clear which rainfall kinetic energy is suitable for Korea. The purpose of this study is to analyze and evaluate the difference of the rainfall erosivity based on different rainfall kinetic energy equations obtained from previous studies. This study introduced new rainfall erosivity factors based on rainfall kinetic energy equation of Noe and Kwon (1984) that is only regression model developed in Korea. Data of annual rainfall erosivity for 21 weather stations in 1980~1999 were used in this study. The result showed that rainfall erosivity factors by the previous equations had been about 10~20% overestimated than rainfall erosivity by Noe and Kwon (1984)'s equation in Korea.
The magnitude of the lateral resistance that resists the lateral movement of the pile is controlled by the amount of the pile movement and the strength and stiffness of soil. In this paper, we proposed an equation which produces the lateral resistance of the laterally loaded single pile using the strain wedge model of the soil deformation. The results of this equation is compared with results of model test, field test, p-y curve and other methods. It is found that the result of proposed equation is smaller than the result of model test. The results of loading test considerably coincide with those of proposed equation; however, a few of deviations are generated as the displacement of pile head increases. Moreover, coincidences exist between the results of the proposed equation and those of finite difference method.

In this paper, we derived a closed-form equation of a Best Linear Unbiased Estimator (BLUE) and its Crammer-Rao Lower Bound (CRLB) for the estimation of the position of the emitter based on the Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) teclmique. The BLUE and CRLB were derived for the case of estimating 2 dimensional position of the emitter with 3 base stations or sensors, and for this purpose, we nsed an approximated equation of the TDOA hyperbola equation obtained from the first order Taylor-series after setting the reference points of the position. The derived equation can be used for any kind of noises which are uncorrelated in each other in the TOA measurement noises and for a white Gaussian noise also.
