  • In this paper, we give a classification of nonoscillatory solution of a second-order neutral delay difference equation of the form △²(x/sub n/-c/sub n/x/sub n-r/)=f(n, x/sub g1(n)/, …, x/sub gm(n)/). Some existence results for each kind of nonoscillatory solutions we also established.

  • In this paper, we will establish some new oscillation criteria for the second-order half-linear delay difference equation $${\Delta}(Pn ({\Delta}Xn)^{\gamma})+q_nx_\array{{\gamma}\\n-{\sigma}}=0,\;n{\geq}n_0$$, where ${\gamma}>0$ is a quotient of odd positive integers. Our results in this paper are sharp and improve some of the well known oscillation results in the literature. Some examples are considered to illustrate our main results.

  • An evaluation of one zero-equation and two one-equation eddy viscosity-transport turbulence closure models as implemented CFDS(Characteristic Flux Difference Splitting ) code is presented herein. Comparisons of Baldwin-Lomax model as zero-equation and Baldwin-Barth and Spalart-Allmaras model as one-equation are presented for three test cases, first inlvolving the 3 dimensional supersonic flow at M=1.98 over tangent ogive cylinder, second involving the 2 dimensional transonic flow at M=0.79 over RAE 2822 airfoil, third involving the 3 dimensional transonic flow at M=0.84 over ONERA M6 wing. The numerical results of CFDS code will also examined through direct comparison with experimental data.

  • The BGK equation, which is the kinetic model equation of Boltzmann equation, is solved using FDDO(finite difference with the discrete-ordinate method) to compute the rarefied flow of monatomic gas. Using reduced velocity distribution and discrete ordinate method, the scalar equation is transformed into a system of hyperbolic equations. High resolution ENO(Essentially Non-Oscillatory) scheme based on Harten-Yee's MFA(Modified Flux Approach) method with Strang-type explicit time integration is applied to solve the system equations. The calculated results are well compared with the experimental density field of NACA0012 airfoil, validating the developed computer code. Next. the computed results of circular cylinder flow for various Knudsen numbers are compared with the DSMC(Direct Simulation Monte Carlo) results by Vogenitz et al. The present scheme is found to be useful and efficient far the analysis of two-dimensional rarefied gas flows, especially in the transitional flow regime, when compared with the DSMC method.

  • A two-phase method in CFD has been developed and is applied to model the cavitation flow. The governing equation system is two-phase Navier-Stokes equation, comprised of the mixture mass, momentum and liquid-phase mass equation. It employs an implicite, dual time, preconditioned algorithm using finite difference scheme in curvilineal coordinates and Chien ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence equation. The experimental cavitating flows around ogive-cylinder and venturi type objects are employed to test the solver. To prove the capabilities of the solver, several three-dimentional examples are presented.

  • Main sources of the vibration in gear driving system are transmission error and backlash. Transmission error is the difference of the rotation between driving and driven gear due to tooth deformation and profile error. Vibro-impacts induced by backlash between meshing gears lead to excessive vibration and noise in many geared rotation systems. Nonlinear dynamic characteristics of the gear driving system due to transmi- ssion error and backlash are investigated. Transmission error is calculated for spur gear. Nonlinear equation of motion for the gear driving system is developed with the calculated transmission error and backlash. Numerical analysis of the equation and the experimental results show the existence of meshing frequency, superharmonic compon- ents. Instability of the gear driving motion is found on the basis of Mathieu equation. Rattle vibration due to backlash is also discussed on the basis if nonlinear jump phenomenon.

  • In this study, Mild slope equation is extended to both of rapidly varying topography and nonlinear waves in a Hamiltonian formulation. It is shown that its linearzed form is the same as the modified mild-slope equation proposed by Kirby and Misra(1998) And assuming that the bottom slopes are very slowly, it is the equivalent with nonlinear mild-slope equation proposed by Isobe(]994) for the monochromatic wave. Using finite-difference method, it is solved numerically and verified, comparing with the results of some hydraulic experiments. A good agreement between them is shown.

  • A molecular-thermodynamic model is developed for the salt-induced protein precipitation. The protein molecules interact through four intermolecular potentials. An equation of state is derived based on the statistical mechanical perturbation theory with the modified Chiew's equation for the fluid phase, Young's equation for the solid phase as the reference system and a perturbation based on the protein-protein effective two body potential. The equation of state provides an expression for the chemical potential of the protein. In a single protein system, the phase separation is represented by fluid-fluid equilibria. The precipitation behaviors are simulated with the partition coefficient at various salt concentrations and degree of pre-aggregation effect for the protein particles. In a binary protein system, we regard the system as a fluid-solid phase equilibrium. At equilibrium, we compute the reduced osmotic pressure-composition diagram in the diverse protein size difference and salt concentrations.

  • In this paper, we present a new formulation using time-domain electric field integral equation (TD-EFIE) to obtain transient scattering response from arbitrarily shaped three-dimensional conducting bodies. The time derivative of the magnetic vector potential is approximated with a central finite difference and the scalar potential is time averaged by dividing it into two terms. This approach with an implicit method using central difference results in accurate and more stable transient scattering responses from conducting objects. Detailed mathematical steps are included and several numerical results are presented and compared with the inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT) of the frequency-domain solution.

  • The growth of micro bubble has been simulated under the variation of ambient pressure. The Rayleigh-Plesset equation governs the dynamic growth and collapse of a bubble according to pressure and temperature conditions. The Rayleigh-Plesset equation was solved by 4th-order Runge-Kutta method for wide range of pressure variations. As numerical parameters, the pressure difference between initial and final pressures, and the temporal pressure gradient are changed. The results show that the pressure difference has little effect on the growth rate of the micro bubble in the inertia controlled growth region. On the other hand, the growth rate increases linearly with the increase of the pressure gradient.
