  • Ship detection in synthetic aperture radar(SAR)imagery has long been an active research topic and has many applications. In this paper,we propose an efficient method for detecting ships from SAR imagery using filtering. This method exploits ship masking using a median filter that considers maximum ship sizes and detects ships from the reference image, to which a Non-Local means (NL-means) filter is applied for speckle de-noising and a differential image created from the difference between the reference image and the median filtered image. As the pixels of the ship in the SAR imagery have sufficiently higher values than the surrounding sea, the ship detection process is composed primarily of filtering based on this characteristic. The performance test for this method is validated using KOMPSAT-5 (Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite-5) SAR imagery. According to the accuracy assessment, the overall accuracy of the region that does not include land is 76.79%, and user accuracy is 71.31%. It is demonstrated that the proposed detection method is suitable to detect ships in SAR imagery and enables us to detect ships more easily and efficiently.

  • Zinc oxide thin films were grown at the t emperature of $100^{\circ}C$ and $150^{\circ}C$ by means of plasma enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD) and conventional atomic layer deposition for applying to the transparent thin film transistor (TTFT). The growth rate of $1.9{\AA}/cycle$ with oxygen plasma is similar to that of film grown with water. While the sheet resistivity of ZnO grown with water is 1233 ohm/sq, that of film grown with oxygen plasma was too high to measure with 4 point probe and hall measurement system. The resistivity of the films grown with oxygen plasma estimated to be $10^6$ times larger than that of the films grown with water. The difference of electrical property between two films was caused by the O/Zn atomic ratio. We fabricated ZnO-TFT by means of ALD for the first time and the ZnO channel fabricated with water showed saturation mobility of $0.398cm^2/V{\cdot}s$ with bottom gate configuration.

  • Serial lateral cephalometric radiographs of 40 Korean children(25 males, 15 females) ranging in age from 6 to 13 years were studied by means of computer morphometrics and statistical analysis. As a result of this study, the following conclusions can be made: 1. In both sexes, the mean growth patterns of the face were very stable and the growth directions of the face were more prominent both forward and down-ward away from the cranial base(S-N). 2. In the mandible, the rotation and the 'wave-like' manner of migration were observed. 3. The size of the lateral faces in males was larger than females at 6 and 13 years of age, and the forms of the lateral faces in males were slightly more squares than females at 13 years of age. 4. The sex differences and practical means in the growth increments and growth rates during 7 years of the growth period were as follows: (1) In the total face, there was a significant sex difference in the growth increments(males $26.21cm^2$, females $23.24cm^2$) and growth rates(males $42.02\%$, females $39.28\%$). (2) In the facial surface 1, there was a significant sex difference in the growth increments(males $21.30cm^2$, females $19.19cm^2$) but there was no significant sex difference in the growth rates(males $41.35\%$, females $39.10\%$). (3) In the anterior total facial height(N-Ne), there was no significant sex difference in the growth increments(males 18.23mm, females 17.45mm) and the growth rates(males $18.44\%$, females $18.19\%$). (4) In the posterior total facial height(S-Go), there was a significant sex difference in the growth increments(males 14.61mm, females 12.98mm) but there was no significant sex difference in the growth rates(males $23.78\%$, females $22.25\%$). 5. The percentages of anterior upper facial height to anterior total facial height in both sexes were very stable in spite of the age increase. 6. The percentage of total facial height to standing height was reduced by the age increase, and the reduced rate of anterior total facial height(males $13.26\%$, females $13.75\%$) was larger than the posterior total facial height(males $9.95\%$, females $11.70\%$). 7. The correlations of lateral facial surfaces to the standing height and the weight were higher in males than females, but the level of correlation in males was in the moderate range.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Korean medicine treatment on facial asymmetric treatment in 5 cases of facial asymmetry correction by non - surgical treatment such as acupucture, chuna treatment, FCST (Functional cerebrospinal technique) and cranial osteopathy. Methods: We analyzed the initial charts of 5 patients who had undergone facial asymmetry in a Korean medicine clinic and measured the position and distance using the photograph, lateral cephalograms, and whole body radiograms. The results were as follows. Results: To quantify both soft and hard tissues to confirm the results of Korean medicine treatment of facial asymmetry, soft tissues quantitatively measure the displacement of the face, the slope of the left and right eyes, and the slope of the lip in order to grasp the positional displacement of the mandible. As a result, on the average, the correction effect as measured by the angle difference between A and C is $1.8{\pm}0.57$, the correction effect as measured by the angle difference between B and C is $1.4{\pm}0.89$, and the angle difference between D and the horizontal plane is $1.9{\pm}0.89$, and the angle difference between E and the horizontal plane is $1.9{\pm}0.89$. The result of reduced angle difference between A and C means that the head position shifted from the center of the body to the unilateral side was shifted to the center. The decrease in the angle difference between B and C means the restoration of the maxillary distortion relative to the mandible. In hard tissues, numerical values were measured based on the skull standard. The average distortion of the skull was $1.9{\pm}0.67$, and the distortion of the lower eye was $1.4{\pm}0.41$. Conclusion: General studies on facial asymmetric treatment are limited to treatments such as surgery and orthodontics. However, this study confirmed the possibility that facial asymmetry could be corrected by Korean medical treatment consisting of reversible non-surgical treatment rather than irreversible treatment such as surgery or orthodontic treatment. In particular, Korean medicine treatment is effective for muscular asymmetry, soft asymmetry, functional asymmetry, etc. The facial asymmetric treatment of Korean medicine is not limited to the face-centered correction, but the asymmetry of the whole body may be corrected as well.

  • A mean-value result, saying that the difference quotient of a differentiable function in a real interval is a mean value of its derivatives at the endpoints of the interval, leads to the functional equation $$\frac{f(x)-F(y)}{x-y}=M(g(x),\;G(y)),\;x{\neq}y$$, where M is a given mean and $f$, F, $g$, G are the unknown functions. Solving this equation for the arithmetic, geometric and harmonic means, we obtain, respectively, characterizations of square polynomials, homographic and square-root functions. A new criterion of the monotonicity of a real function is presented.

  • A selected subject and a standardized scoring system were newly enforced at college entrance examination from 1999. A selected subject system means each student can select one subject in addition to common subject in the field of mathematical research II and a standardized scoring system means we standardize the score of each field as mean 50 and standard deviation 10 in order to adjust the degree of difficulty between fields. In the field of mathematical research II, there may exist not only difference of the degree of difficulty but also that of general studying ability between groups of selected subjects. So when we standardize score, we have to consider them. So far a linear equating which is a parametric method and an equi-percentile equating which is a nonparametric method have been published, but both of them supposed that the general studying ability between groups was equal. So in this paper an adjusted linear and percentile equating method which seems to be adequate to our entrance examination is suggested and is investigated by computer simulation.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the flexural, interfacial behavior, crack propagation, nonlinear behavior, effect repaired and rehabilitated with VES-LMC using RC beam with 4-point-loading test. The results were following: The test result showed that repair and rehabilitation effect increased as its depth increased, which was verified by the increase of flexural stiffness. More than 40% of stiffness was improved when the depth of repair was up to steel position. However, there was a little difference between 8cm and 12cm repaired beam. This means the repair depth must be considered. The interfacial behavior data showed that the repaired or rehabilitated beams had a little relative displacement. This means that two materials behave comparatively acting together. This suggested that interface treatment were one of the most important jobs in composite beams.

  • This research is to show the application of runoff model and runoff analysis of urban storm drainage network. the runoff models that were used for this research were RRL, ILLUDAS, and SWMM applicative object basin were Geucknak-chun and Sangmu drainage basin located in Seo-Gu, Kwangju. The runoff analysis employed the design storm that distributed the rainfall intensity according to the return period after the huff's method. The result from the comparative analysis of the three runoff models was as follows The difference of peak runoff by return period was 20-30% at Sangmu drainage area of $3.17 Km^2$, while less than 10% at Geucknak-chun drainage area of $12.7 Km^2$. The peak runoff were similar to all models. At the runoff hydrograph the times between rising and descending points were in the sequence of RRL, ILLUDAS and SWMM, but the peak times were similar to all models. The conveyance coefficient to examine the conveyance of the existing drainage network was 0.94-1.37, which means insecure, in Geucknak-chun drainage basin and 0.69-1.16, which means secure, in sangmu drainage basin.

  • Mortar is produced with different degrees of temperature and ratios of admixture materials. In order to produce strength mortar, the degree of temperature and the ratio of admixture materials must be optimized. This paper examines experimental effects by applying certain degrees of temperature and ratios of admixture materials to statistically understand the changes in the strength of mortar. The Taguchi method is used for the above-mentioned optimization problem. Firstly, factorial ANOVA is used to investigate the difference of means between the experiments. Due to the significant differences in obtained means, the regression analysis is applied. On the other hand, the effects of the varying degrees of temperature and admixture ratios are presented via 3D plots. Finally, the statistical results of ANOVA and Taguchi indicate that degree of temperature and the different ratios of admixture materials can affect the behaviour of mortar under the tests.
