Microwave Dielectric Properties of 0.95Ca0.85Nd0.1TiO3−0.05LnAlO3 (Ln=Sm, Dy, Er) Ceramics

  • Microwave dielectric properties of $0.95 Ca_{0.85}Nd_{0.1}TiO_3-0.05LnAlO_3$ (Ln=Sm, DH, Er) were investigated as a function of sintering temperature and lanthanide ion type. A single perovskite phase with an orthorhombic structure was obtained throughout the entire range of composition. The dielectric constant (K) was dependent upon the dielectric polarizabilities and the B-site bond valence in the $ABO_3$ perovskite structure. The quality factor (Qf) of the specimens with $ErAlO_3$ was smaller than those with $SmAlO_3\;and/or\;DyAlO_3$ due to the smaller grain size. The temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (TCF) could be controlled from $107.28ppm/^{\circ}C$ at Ln=Sm to $87.23ppm/^{\circ}C$ at Ln=Er due to the changes of B-site bond valence in the $ABO_3$ perovskite structure.

The Design of BPF with Dielectric Resonators (DR을 이용한 대역통과 필터 설계)

  • In this thesis, a BPF(band-pass filter) at the center frequency of 2.14GHz, and bandwidth of 20MHz is designed and implemented using high Q dielectric resonators with ${\varepsilon}_r=38$. The DR(dielectric resonator) is resonated by $TE_{01{\delta}}$-mode and it has a hole in the center of DR. The BPF consists of 6-poles dielectric resonators and the characteristic of elliptic function is obtained by non-adjacent coupling. It has the average insertion loss of 0.97dB and the return loss over 25dB in its passband. In this thesis, the frequency selectivity is more improved by the coupling characteristics between non-adjacent resonators than that of dielectric resonator filters with a Chebyshev response.

  • Using time domain reflectometry, the complex dielectric spectra between 10 MHz to 20 GHz has been measured in the whole composition range at 10, 20, 30 and $40^{\circ}C$ for the binary mixtures of ethylene glycol and dimethyl sulfoxide. For all the mixtures, only one dielectric loss peak was observed in this frequency range. The relaxation in these mixtures can be described by a single relaxation time using the Debye model. A systematic variation is observed in dielectric constant (${\varepsilon}_0$) and relaxation time (${\tau}$). The excess permittivity (${\varepsilon}^E$), excess inverse relaxation time $(1/{\tau})^E$, Kirkwood correlation factor (g) and thermodynamic parameters viz. enthalpy of activation (${\Delta}H$) and Gibbs free energy of activation (${\Delta}G$) have been determined, to confirm the formation of hydrogen bonded homogeneous and heterogeneous cooperative domains, the dynamics of solute - solute interaction and the hindrance to molecular rotation in the hydrogen bonded glass forming ethylene glycol - dimethyl sulphoxide system.

  • The physical and dielectric properties of complex perovskite compound Sr(Mg1/3Nb1/3)O3-Ba(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-Ba(Mg1/3Ta2/3)O3(BMT) system were investigated as a function of composition. As the mole ratio of BMN was increased, lattice parameter ratio c/a was slightly increased, and density was increased in SMN-BMN system. However, in BMN-BMT system, lattice parameter ratio c/a and density were decreased with increasing the mole ratio of BMN. Dielectric constant, dielectric loss at $25^{\circ}C$ and 100kHz, and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency, the dependence of temperature in capacitance were increased with increasing the mole ratio of BMN in SMN-BMN-BMT system. These result can be explained according to the degree of order=disorder and dielectric constant.

  • This paper presents the analysis of the impedance characteristic of the strip type waveguide mount backed by the dielectric substrate using mode the matching and induced EMF method. The part of the waveguide containing the dielectric substrate is modeled as waveguide partially filled with the dielectric, and a hybrid mode analysis has been conducted for the structure. The electromagnetic scattering problem by the dielectric substrate is solved by the mode matching method using the calculated modal function. The input impedance seen at the mount gap is calculated by the induced EMF method using the calculated results. the calculated results thus obtained has been verified through comparison with the results by other numerical methods. The effect of some structure parameters such as the width of the substrate and the gap size on the mount impedance is investigated.

  • In this paper, we present a set of numerical schemes to solve the Muller integral equation for the analysis of electromagnetic scattering from arbitrarily shaped three-dimensional dielectric bodies by applying the method of moments(Mon. The piecewise homogeneous dielectric structure is approximated by planar triangular patches. A set of the RWG(Rao, Wilton, Glisson) functions is used for expansion of the equivalent electric and magnetic current densities and a combination of the RWG function and its orthogonal component is used for testing. Numerical results for a dielectric sphere are presented and compared with solutions obtained using other formulations.

  • Dielectric and piezoelectric properties of Pb$_0.9$La$_0.1$TiO$_3$ ceramics were investigated as a function of grain size. Sintering atmosphere was controlled with changing the kind of atmospheric powder and its amount. It was confirmed that dielectric and piezoelectric of Pb$_0.9$La$_0.1$TiO$_3$ were strongly influenced by the sintering atmosphere. Relative dielectric constant of Pb$_0.9$La$_0.1$TiO$_3$ which was sintered in PbO-deficient atmosphere made by Pb$_0.9$La$_0.1$TiO$_3$ powder, increased with the grain size. However, the dielectric constant of the samples sintered in the PbO-sufficient atmosphere made by PbZrO$_3$ powder was slightly decreased with the grain size. Piezoelectric d$_33$ constant of Pb$_0.9$La$_0.1$TiO$_3$ also showed a different trend, depending on the sintering atmosphere. It was almost constant in the range of grain size of 1.3~2.3 $\mu$m when the samples were sintered in the PbO-sufficient atmosphere, while it intensively decreased with the grain size in the case of the PbO-deficient condition.

Mechanism and Characteristics of the Surface Flashover on the Laminated Solid Dielectric in N2/O2 Mixture Gas (N2/O2 혼합가스 중 적층된 고체유전체에 대한 연면방전의 메커니즘과 특성)

  • This paper presents the surface flashover mechanism of a laminated solid dielectric and describes the surface flashover characteristics with the inherent capacitance of the laminated solid dielectric in a $N_2/O_2$ mixture gas (8:2) under an quasi uniform field. It was found that the electron emission at a cathode and the high-local electric field region around an anode were important factors to reasonably describe the surface flashover mechanism. The surface flashover voltage by the mechanism decreased with the inherent capacitance increase of the laminated solid dielectric. In addition to the surface flashover mechanism and its characteristics, the surface flashover voltage equations as a function of the inherent capacitance were derived by considering a gas pressure used in future eco-friendly GIS and the factors influencing the surface flashover.

  • In this study, in order to develop the lead-free piezoelectric ceramics with high piezoelectric and dielectric properties, $[(K_{0.5}Na_{0.5})_{0.95}Li_{0.05}(Nb_{0.96}Sb_{0.04})]O_3$ ceramics were fabricated using $Ag_2O$ as sintering aid and a conventional mixed oxide process and their piezoelectric and dielectric characteristics were investigated according to the $SrTiO_3$ substitution. $SrTiO_3$ substitution enhanced density, dielectric constant(${\varepsilon}_r$) and electromechanical coupling factor($k_p$). However, mechanical quality factor was deteriorated. And also, Curie temperature ($T_c$), and phase transition temperature($T_p$) were rapidly decreased. At the 0.5 mol% $SrTiO_3$ substitution, density, electromechanical coupling factor($k_p$), dielectric constant(${\varepsilon}_r$) and piezoelectric constant($d_{33}$) of specimen showed the optimum value of $4.437\;g/cm^3$, 0.457, 1294, 265 pC/N, respectively.
