  • LCPV modules under 5 suns consist of reflective optics and receiver modules, similar to a typical fixed concentration PV module. If they are to be used as a compound parabolic concentrator, which is filled with a dielectric material, a compact plate structure of the fixed CPV can be designed and built at a large acceptance angle. These types of flat-$plate{\mu}$-LCPV modules are suitable for building integrated photovoltaic modules, facade applications, mobile devices, and small home appliances. Therefore, in this study, the possibilities for other application devices were studied and presented by designing and fabricating LCPCs for CPV modules.

  • Design and microwave absorbing properties of ferrite plate are investigated for the application to the radiowave absorbers used in anechoic chamber. The required frequency-dependence of complex permeability is determined on the basis of wave-impedance-matching relationship. The plate thickness and matchingfrequency are determined from the complex permeability and dielectric constant, and then compared with the directly measured reflection loss. A systematic variation of material constants and their influence on the microwave absorbing properties are demonstrated.

  • A possibility of manufacturing bendable ac-PDP using aluminum electrode with anodic aluminum oxide dielectric material system on PET film substrate was explored. For this structure, PET film with fence-structured aluminum electrodes was used for front plate and PET film with barrier ribs of UV curable resin for the rear plate. The results demonstrate that it is feasible to manufacture the bendable ac-PDPs using those material system and are expected to expand the applications of plasma display panels.

  • A new front plate structure of ac-PDP was explored using fence-type aluminum electrode coated with anodic aluminum oxide.[1] In this structure, ITO and glass dielectric layer were eliminated and expensive Ag BUS electrode was replaced with aluminum. Test panels were prepared using the new structure and their luminance and discharge characteristics were examined. These results indicate that the new structure provide a new way of cost reduction and enhancement of performance of ac-PDPs

  • In general, Single gap transflective FFS display has an in-cell retarder (ICR) between reflective electrode and liquid crystal (LC) layer. Therefore, Operating voltage is highly increased due to this thick dielectric material. But, we also knew the phenomenon that the increasing rate of Vop is different whether the 1st common electrode was composed of plate type or slit type. In this paper, the common electrode in transmissive part was composed of slit type which had less steepness effect of the V op and in reflective part was composed of plate type. The rubbing angle of reflective part can be adjusted properly to match the voltage dependent transmittance and reflectance.

  • Effects of volatile impurities on deterioration characteristics of XLPE were investigated. Block type plate with needle-plane electrode and artificial void filled with $N_2$gas or humidity was subjected under high electric field. The dyed region by oxidation reaction around the artificial void filled with humidity was detected before tee initiation. Electrical tree was started from the tip of void filled with $N_2$gas earlier than humidity.

  • Radiation admittance of the rectangular microstrip antenna is calculated by using equivalent ${\pi}$-network parameters of the slit in the wall of the parallel plate waveguide filled with homogeneous dielectric. Using equivalent transmission line model, return loss is calculated and compared with experimental result. Calculated values for the return loss show good agreement with experimental values.

  • DBD type을 이용한 remote plasma에서 발생된 대기압 플라즈마를 이용하여, PR에 대한 식각 실험을 진행하였다. 과거 습식 화학적 공정에서 오던 기술적 제한의 극복과 진공 플라즈마 가지는 단점을 극복하기 위해 대기압 플라즈마를 이용한 건식 세정에 관한 연구를 진행하였고, 이 때 Gas는 $N_2/O_2$+$SF_6$ 의 조합으로 사용하였으며, 각 gas의 유량에 다른 remote 플라즈마의 전기적, 광학적 특성에 대해 관찰하였다.

  • We described a method to obtain electromagnetic solution and resonant frequencies in dielectric-disc loaded cylindrical cavity resonators. Resonant frequency of dielectric-disc loaded cylindrical cavity resonators is calculated by analyzing the characteristic equation. The characteristic equation is solved by using the ContourPlot graph of Mathematica. As increasing to height of cavity, we compare the calculated resonant frequency with experimental frequency. The calculated results well agree with the experimental ones. The error between them is 0.2% or 1.6% for the case of the top plate is close to or far from concentric dielectric-disc, respectively.

A Sub-Wavelength Focusing Lens Composed of a Dual-Plate Metamaterial Providing a Negative Refractive Index

  • We have proposed a metamaterial lens that enables sub-wavelength focusing, which is shorter than an operating wavelength. Our lens is a two dimensional array of a unit cell consisting of a metallic dual-plate printed on a dielectric substrate. The unique dual-plate structure provides negativeness both in permittivity and permeability, with no help from conventional additional structures, which are normally printed on the opposite of metallic patterns. Therefore, we can focus a source (or an image) in a tiny distance shorter than the free space wavelength (${\lambda}$) at the frequencies of interest. Furthermore, since the proposed geometry does not need separate supplementary structures to acquire negative permittivity or permeability, our lens is much simpler than conventional metamaterial lenses, which is a strong point in practical applications. We have validated sub-wavelength focusing ability in a 6 GHz frequency band through an experiment of near field scanning, which provided the width of about 0.19 ${\lambda}$ at a half maximum of a peak value of an measured image. The width of the focused image through the lens is more than 4 times shorter than that without the lens, which confirms the validity of our design approach.
