  • The purpose of this study is to analyze job of die and mold makers for apprenticeship education of specialized high school using DACUM method. The contents of this study were to identify the duties, specific tasks performed and the level of importance, difficulty, frequency and entry level on each task. This study also make out a DACUM chart of die and mold makers for apprenticeship education of specialized high school. The DACUM committee, which consisted of one facilitator, nine die and mold experts, one recorder and one coordinator, was established to conduct DACUM. The conclusions are as follows; First, this study defines a die and mold makers as 'a person who make it possible to manufacture/assemble/inspect die and mold parts using various machine tool'. Second, duties in job of die and mold makers for apprenticeship education were total 12 and total tasks in job of die and mold makers for apprenticeship education were 86. Third, this study determine the level of importance, difficulty, frequency and entry level about each task. Finally, this study make out a DACUM chart of die and mold makers for apprenticeship education of specialized high school based on the results of DACUM job analysis. And knowledge, skills, tools, and positive behaviors, future trends/concerns about die and mold makers for apprenticeship education of specialized high school were presented.

  • Sheet Metal Forming by Press Forming Process takes a lot of time and cost from mold design to manufacturing. Therefore, all of die-makers are continuously conducting research to reduce the number of mold processes or the size of blanks to reduce costs. In the case of Forming complex shapes such as automobile component, wrinkles and cracks occur, so draw beads are used. Draw beads play an important role in suppressing the inflow of materials and minimizing the size of blanks. Factors that affect material flow include draw bead, blank holding pressure, lubricant, and surface roughness of punch and die. Most of the factors affect friction. In this study, after classifying circular beads and rectangular beads in cylindrical drawing molds using the AutoForm analysis program, the factors affecting the material inflow were considered.

  • Pencil-core dies are relatively new technology in Korea. It is not that no one had tried to make them but had failed due to lack of technologies. However, Posco TMC Co., Ltd, one of the leading die makers in the world, is capable of sophisticated dies including pencil-core dies. Spark plugs made by pencil-core dies have energy efficiency close to 100 percent, which compares to 46 percent of conventional spark plugs. Even though they are now mostly installed in LPG automobiles, more and more diesel and gasoline vehicles are adopting them. This study focuses on how to improve core shape precision using controling design and parts machining methods for pencil-core dies and productivity.

  • Conventionally injection molds & dies are manufactured through an order-oriented manner. This brings unexpected orders into the shop floor such as hot order, re-work, and new types of mold & dies. Thus, there needs appropriate resource assignment plans considering the available times of machines and workers. Further, a scheduling system is required that can create work schedules periodically or by customers' requests. Yet, in small & medium sized mold & die makers, production schedules usually depend on the shop floor workers' experience and their manual preparation. Hence, developed in this study is a scheduling management system (SMS) based on order release and review (ORR) in small and medium sized mold & die companies. The proposed SMS considers delivery dates as well as flexible work schedules, so as to meet frequent changes of customers' order. The system can provide effective resource assigning and work scheduling plans, securing standard data associated with shop floors. Furthermore, the system pursues economical schedules for companies' needs, equipped with an available to promise (ATP) function that can effectively accommodate the changes of production plans.

  • In the data from synthetic resin makers, there is no shrinkage deviation through injection molding. But, after making the required products, even in the same conditions, there are some size-deviation in colors. Into our research, we checked main factor by the injection molding conditions. Our tests have shown this results, there are some shrinkage deviation in collors and, in the injection molding conditions, packing pressure is the main factor.
