An upper bound elemental technique (UBET) program has been developed to predict forging load, die-cavity filling, preform in non-axisymmetric forging. To analyze the process easily, it is suggested that the deformation is divided into two different parts. Those are axisymmetric part in corner, plane-strain part in lateral. The plane-strain and axisymmetric parts are combined by building block method. And the total energy is computed through combination of three deformation parts. A dumbbell-type preform has been obtained from height and volumetric compensations of the billet based on the backward simulation. Experimetns have been carried out with pure plasticine at room temperature. Theoretical predictions are in good agreement with expereimental results.

Bending work using press dies involves bending a flat blank to a desired angle. The bending produces a flange (the bent part) and a web (the unbent part). The bending line will have a bending angle, and there is an inner and outer bending radius. The minimum inner radius size is determined by the material used. When the inner radius size is too small, there will be excess metal welding, which will cause a crack in the outer radius part. The outer bending radius size cannot be controlled by a bending punch and die block. Types of bending include V-bending, U-bending, O-bending, edge bending, twist bending, and crimping. Z-bending involves two bending lines, which are set on the upper side and under surface of the blank, respectively, and upward or downward bending is used. Z-bending is also called crank bending. Z-bending using this type of die structure will produce a standard inner bending radius. The standard size is the minimum bending radius that represents the angle radius of the bending punch. In industry, there is a need for a sharp edge shape with a very small size (R=0.2mm), but that is not possible when using bending punch and die block. The purpose of this research is to meet the need by development.

The security of personal informations has been an important issue since the field of smart card applications has been expanded explosively. The security of smart card is based on cryptographic algorithms, which are highly required to be implemented into hardware for higher speed and stronger security. In this paper, a SEED cryptographic processor is designed by employing one round key generation block which generates 16 round keys without key registers and one round function block which is used iteratively. Both the round key generation block and the F function are using only one G function block with one 5${\times}$l MUX sequentially instead of 5 G function blocks. The proposed SEED processor has been implemented such that each round operation is divided into seven sub-rounds and each sub-round is executed per clock. Functional simulation of the proposed cryptographic processor has been executed using the test vectors which are offered by Korea Information Security Agency. In addition, we have evaluated the proposed SEED processor by executing VHDL synthesis and FPGA board test. The die area of the proposed SEED processor decreases up to approximately 40% compared with the conventional processor.

Generally, in shipbuilding, large curved block components which have large curvature radius along various directions are used for huge ships such as LPG-vessel and oil tanker ships. Lots of the blocks are manufactured by line heating method which uses a heat source to bend the thick plate materials. The conventional forming process is entirely dependent on the experience of experts because it is done by manual method thus the curvatures and qualities are not uniform even for same part. However, it is hard to adopt the press forming process using die tool sets fur the manufacturing because of the characteristics of the industry that based on the small quantity and variety in the products. In this study, flexible forming technology using numbers of punches is investigated based on the simulation to substitute for the conventional forming method. Thick plate material model was applied to the proposed process to verify the feasibility for hull structure block forming process. The press forming processes were simulated by adopting the explicit-to-implicit sequential solution. Moreover, experiment of the flexible forming process was also conducted and its results were compared with that of simulation.

An UBET(Upper Bound Elemental Techniquel) program has been developed to analyze forging load, die-cavity filling and effective strain distribution for flashless non-axisymmetric forging. To analyze the process easily, it is suggested that the deforma- tion is divided into two different parts. Those are axisymmetric part in corner and plane- strain part in lateral. The total power consumption is minimized through combination of two deformation parts by building block method, form which the upper-bound forging load, the flow pattern, the grid pattern, the velocity distribution and the effective strain are deter- mined. To show the merit of flashless forging, the results of flashless and flash-forging processes are compared through theory and experiment. Experiments have been carried out with plasticine billets at room temperature. The theoretical predictions of the forging load and the flow pattern are in good agrement with the experimental results.

This paper presents a method for constructing a memory system using defective memory chips comprising faulty storage blocks. The three-dimensional memory system introduced here employs a die-stacked structure of faulty memory chips. Signals lines passing through the through-silicon-vias (TSVs) connect chips in the defect tolerant structure. Defective chips are classified into several groups each group comprising defective chips having faulty blocks at the same location. A defect tolerant memory system is constructed using chips from different groups. Defect-free storage blocks from spare chips replace faulty blocks using additional routing circuitry. The number of spare chips for defect tolerance is $s={\ulcorner}(k{\times}n)/(m-k){\urcorner}$ to make a system defect tolerant for (n+s) chips with k faulty blocks among m independently addressable blocks.

This paper describes the wear characteristics of WC-Co cemented carbides machined with Wire-cut or Die-sinking EOM. We prepared the specimens with different grades of grinding to remove the affected layer after the EDM. These specimens were experimented by block-on-cylinder type tribometer. The result indicated that although the hardness of the affected layer was lower than that of the bulk, wear resistance was increased. In order to investigate the cause of the increase in wear resistance of the affected layer, the layer was observed and analyzed by SEM and ESCA. We also discussed the mean free path of Co phase.

During the tube hydropiercing, the region adjacent to the pierced hole will be deformed and will be drawn away from the die block as the punch advances through the wall of the tube. The deformation in the region may range from a substantially flat form to a countersunk form, so called rollover. In this study, the effects of material properties, shape of piercing punches, roundness of tube surface and internal pressure within the tube during piercing on the rollover have been investigated experimentally. The results provide the quantitative variation of rollover at given hydropiercing parameters, and a relationship between the deformed radius and the rollover caused by the deformation has been established.
Preform design is one of the critical fields in metal forming. The finite element method(FEM) has been effective in designing preforms and process sequence, for which the backward tracing scheme of the rigid-plastic FEM has been explored. In this work a program using the backward tracing scheme by the rigid-plastic FEM is developed for three-dimensional plastic deformation, which is an extension of the scheme from two-dimensional cases. The calculation of friction between workpiece and die, and handling of boundary conditions during backward tracing require sophisticated treatment. The developed program is applied to upsetting of a rectangular block and to side pressing of a cylindrical workpiece. The results of the two applications show feasibility of the program on three-dimensional plastic deformation.
