  • 미세 물질을 포함하고 있는 광산 폐기물의 디워터링 과정(dewatering process)은 작은 입자들의 침전속도가 낮기 때문에 시간이 오래 걸리고 어려운 과정이다. 따라서 광산 폐기물이 안정적으로 침전되었는지 확인하기 위해서 디워터링 과정을 연속적으로 모니터링하는 기술이 필요하다. 이 연구에서는 kaolinite, illite, bentonite 3 종류의 점토를 3 가지 농도(0.1g/L, 1g/L, 5g/L)로 나눠서 초음파 음향 감지를 이용해 후방산란 신호를 측정했다. 그리고 측정된 신호를 활용하여 합성곱 신경망(CNN) 모델을 개발하여 점토의 분류 모델을 만드는 연구를 수행했다. 본 연구에서 보여준 CNN 의 높은 정확도는 광산 폐기물의 디워터링 과정에서 미세 광물과 미세 농도 분류 모니터링에 적합한 저렴하고 측정하기 쉬운 음향 감지의 사용 가능성을 입증했다.

Sizing Efficiency of AKD in Causticizing Calcium Carbonate Filled Paper

  • Causticizing calcium carbonate (CCC) is produced as a by-product in the causticization step of the kraft pulping process. It is often calcined in a rotary lime kiln after being dewatered and reused in the causticizing process. But for the China mill, the conventional recycled way is difficult because the CCC is mainly obtained from non-wood pulping materials, which higher silicon content led to serious silicon obstacle. So it is often discarded as solid waste or used in landfill after dewatering and secondary pollution is brought. In order to prevent its secondary pollution, recent years, the CCC is used as a filler in China papermaking industry. In mill trials, the CCC can be used to replace an amount of precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC). Unfortunately, the application scope and dosage of CCC have been limited due to its lower sizing efficiency than PCC. In this study, the reason for the lower sizing efficiency of alkyl ketene dimer (AKD) when CCC was used as a filler was investigated. The results showed that the materials in green liquid, such as insoluble matter in green liquid, silicon and metal ions, were a little influence on the sizing efficiency of AKD. The higher BET and BJH pore volume of the CCC were the main reason for lower sizing efficiency of AKD when it was used as filler.

Economic Analysis of Upgrading Low Rank Coal Process (저등급석탄 고품위화 공정의 경제성 분석)

  • Fry-drying of coal slurry is one of the upgrading low rank coal processes. It consists of slurry mixing, slurry dewatering, solvent recovery and briquetting. Cost estimation and economic feasibility are examined for the upgrading low rank coal process based on capacity of 1 million ton/yr. In case that investment costs are $100,000,000, discount rate is 12%, and service life is 20 years, the results of economic analysis are enough to satisfy the evaluation criteria of investment such as IRR, B/C ratio, NPV and discounted payback period. According to sensitivity analysis, investment value are very sensitive to raw material cost and product price. Since the bituminous coal price is currently soaring, it is expected that the investment value will increase more and more.

A Study on the Coagulation of Wastewater Containing Fine Silica Particles with the Waste Slurry from Soda Ash Manufacturing Industries (소오다회 제조 공장의 폐슬러리를 이용한 미세 실리카 함유 폐수의 응집에 관한 연구)

  • The objectives of this study are to examine the applicability of waste slurry from soda ash manufacturing industries as a coagulant for the treatment of wastewater containing fine silica particles, and to reduce the cost of wastewater treatment containing silica. Acceptable water quality can be obtained with a little dosing of waste slurry by gelation before the coagulation process so it could be concluded that the waste slurry from soda ash can be used as a coagulant. Based on the results of experiments, the optimum pH of gelation for silica in wastewater was around five and the treatment process with the gelation of silica could reduce the chemical dosage and waste sludge after coagulation. Dewatering and settling characteristics of the floc after coagulation with the waste slurry are better than those of the floc after coagulation with the lime milk only.

Effect of Chemical Conditioning on Flotation and Thickening Efficiencies of Sewage Sludge (화학적인 개량이 하수슬러지의 부상농축효율에 미치는 영향)

  • Chemical sludge conditioning is widely used to improve the dewatering efficiency. It is treated with commonly used conditioners, and then thickened and dewatered with a mechanical device. This paper aims to examine the flotation and thickening efficiencies of sewage sludge for conditioning conditions, such as unaerobic storage time, kinds of coagulant and dosages, and flotation conditions, such as sludge concentration and A/S ratio, using an dissolved air flotation apparatus. Experimental results showed that the specific surface area and specific resistance to filtration (SRF) were significantly increased and the flotation and thickening efficiencies were decreased with anaerobic storage time. However, the flotation and thickening efficiencies faintly decreased in sewage sludges conditioned as $Al_2(SO_4)_3$, $Fe_2(SO_4)_3$, and PSO-M. Flotation and thickening efficiencies in conditioned sewage sludge could be sustained up to 96% at A/S ratio of 0.01 mL/mg or over.

  • 지난 수년간 유럽을 중심으로 Carbonate의 PSD (Particle Size Distribution)가 도공지 의 백색도, 불투명도, Coverage등에 미치는 영향에 대하여 많은 연구가 진행되어 왔다. 현재 국내의 Coating Pigment System 역시 Carbonate 위주로 구성되어 있으나, 입자 분포에 따른 실증적 연구가 선진국에 비하여 부족한 상태이다. 본 연구는 최근 유럽에서 사용 중인 Narrow PSD Carbonate가 도공지 품질에 미치는 영향을 검토한 것으로서, 특히 Multiple Coating에서의 도공층 구조변화와 그에 따른 백지물성 및 인쇄적성의 변화를 연구한 것이다. 실험의 Case는 Broad PSD CaC03와 Narrow PSD CaC03를 비 교하였 다 .. Color F Formulation은 Pre Color에서 #1 Clay 30 p따t와 각각 CaC03 70 p따t를 사용하였다. 그리고 바인더와 첨가제는 동일하게 사용하였다 .. Top color Formulation 또한 동일하 게 사용하였다. 코팅방식은 speed 450rrνmin, pre rod coating, top blade coating 방식 으로 CLC (Cy lindrical Laboratory Coater)를 사용하여 코팅하였다. 백지품질은 백색도, 평활도 ,광택도, 거칠음도, Bum Out Test와 Coverage( SEM 사 진 Z -direction) 등을 측정하였다. 인쇄품질은 인쇄 광택도, 인쇄 Picking strength와 2 도 인쇄 농도를 측정하였다. 백색도는 Narrow PSD CaC03를 사용한 것이 Broad PSD CaC03를 사용한 것 대비 약1% 우수하였다. 이것은 Narrow PSD CaC03를 사용한 것이 filter cake이 많이 open 되 어 있어 dewatering이 빠르고, Wet void volume이 증가되 어 부동화점 의 농도가 낮 아져 원지 층으로 침 투되 는 pigment가 작고 표층에 잔류하는 pigment와 void volume의 증가로 인해 기공층이 증가한 것으로 판단된다. 그리고, 백지광택도, 거칠음도 등 또한 Narrow PSD CaC03를 사용한 것이 우수하였 다. 이는 Pre color에서 coverage의 개선으로 top color층의 도공량 uniformity가 개선 된 이유라고 생각한다. 그러나 인쇄품질은 백지와 비교하여 차이가 없었다. 이것은 top 칼라 Formulation이 동일하고, 인쇄시 잉크흡수 거동은 top color 층에 주로 영향을 받기 때문이라고 판단 된다. 향후에는 인쇄품질의 향상을 위하여 Case 2의 CaC03 100% 사용가능성 및 Pre Color 는 Case 2로 고정하고, Top칼라를 변경하는 방법을 또한 생각할 필요가 있다고 판단된다.

  • Because there are only a limited number of means of action that are available for the master to pursue in the event of flooding, onboard decision support system has been required. The majority of systems activated during a flooding emergency (such as watertight and semi-watertight doors, bulkhead valves, dewatering pumps etc.) almost exclusively aim to restore a sufficiently high level of subdivision to prevent flooding from spreading through the ship. Even though assuming the flooding scenario is not catastrophic, the use of ballast tanks can be an additional and very effective tool to ensure both prevention of flooding spreading and also improve ship stability. This paper describes an optimization algorithm devised to choose the set of ballast tanks that should be filled in order to achieve an optimal response to a flooding accident.

A Study on Methohs Reducing Groundwater Contamination Around Kimpo Landfill (김포매립지 주변 지하수오염 확산 저감 방법 연구)

  • In order to reduce the groundwater contamination around the Kimpo landfill in Korea by the leakage of the leachate within it, The method establishing 5 sets of Radial Collector Well Laterals(RCWLs) within the landfill, the method utilizing the wells dewatering the condensed water, the method establishing an interception wall to the 2nd layer at the circumference of the landfill and 22 sets of RCWLs within it, and the method establishing an interception wall to the 3rd layer and 40 sets of RCWLs were studied. Hydraulic parameters were measured for this study and then the groundwater flow and contaminant transport systems around the Kimpo landfill were analyzed with the MODFLOW and MT3D models. Conclusively, the method establishing an interception wall to the 2nd layer and 22 sets of RCWLs was evaluated as the most stable and economical option to reduce groundwater contamination concentration below drinking water standards.

Parameters Affecting Nitrite Accumulation in Submerged Biofilm Reactor (생물막 반응기에서 아질산성 질소의 축척에 미치는 영향인자)

  • The objective of this study was to assess parameters affecting nitrite accumulation, which offers advantages in terms of less aeration energy and carbon consumption for denitrification. The influence of the alkalinity to $NH_4{^+}-N$ concentration ratio, pH, FA(free ammonia) concentration and temperature on nitrite accumulation was investigated. The experiment was performed with supernatant from dewatering process of anaerobic digested sludge using a submerged biofilm reactor. The influent contains high strength of ammonium nitrogen and the alkalinity was insufficient for complete nitrification. An increased nitrite accumulation was observed with increase in alkalinity to $NH_4{^+}-N$ concentration ratio. The increase in alkalinity to $NH_4{^+}-N$ concentration ratio has been a maior reason for the high pH value and FA concentration in the reactor. It can be considered that selective inhibition of Nitrobacter can be causes of nitrite accumulation. The nitrite accumulation increased with increment of temperature at fixed alkalinity to $NH_4{^+}-N$ concentration ratio.

  • Diverse benefits such as reduction of fresh water consumption and effluent discharge, efficient use of raw materials and energy savings can be obtained by papermaking system closure. Closure of papermaking processes, however, causes many problems including reduction of the efficiency of additives, decrease of retention and dewatering, felt plugging, poor Paper quality, generation of slime and odor, poor vacuum efficiency, etc, and it has been recognized that accumulation of Inorganic and organic substances in the process white water is the prime cause of these problems. Therefore, technological developments for preventing accumulation of these detrimental substances are urgently required for Implementing papermaking system closure. Understanding of the accumulation phenomena of the inorganic and organic substances in the papermaking process white water is prerequisite for papermaking system closure. In this study a process simulation method was used to analyze the accumulation phenomena of anionic starch In the process white water as the closure level of a fine paper making process is increased. A pilot paper machine was used as a model process. Starch adsorption and desorption models were developed based on the concept of starch adsorption ratio, which was not considered in previous studies. Steady state simulation studies were carried out based on this model using a commercial simulator. In steady state simulation, the variation of dissolved starch concentration in each process unit was monitored as a function of white water usage for wire shower. The result of the steady state simulation showed that dissolved starch concentration and its increase ratio in Process units increased as white water usage ratio for wire shower increased.
