DEVELOPMENT OF MATDYMO (MULTI-AGENT FOR TRAFFIC SIMULATION WITH VEHICLE DYNAMICS MODEL) I: DEVELOPMENT OF TRAFFIC ENVIRONMENT

  • For decades, simulation technique has been well validated in areas such as computer and communication systems. Recently, the technique has been much used in the area of transportation and traffic forecasting. Several methods have been proposed for investigating complex traffic flows. However, the dynamics of vehicles and diversities of driver characteristics have never been considered sufficiently in these methods, although they are considered important factors in traffic flow analysis. In this paper, we propose a traffic simulation tool called Multi-Agent for Traffic Simulation with Vehicle Dynamics Model (MATDYMO). Road transport consultants, traffic engineers and urban traffic control center managers are expected to use MATDYMO to efficiently simulate traffic flow. MATDYMO has four sub systems: the road management system, the vehicle motion control system, the driver management system, and the integration control system. The road management system simulates traffic flow for various traffic environments (e.g., multi-lane roads, nodes, virtual lanes, and signals); the vehicle motion control system constructs the vehicle agent by using various vehicle dynamic models; the driver management system constructs the driver agent capable of having different driving styles; and lastly, the integrated control system regulates the MATDYMO as a whole and observes the agents running in the system. The vehicle motion control system and driver management system are described in the companion paper. An interrupted and uninterrupted flow model were simulated, and the simulation results were verified by comparing them with the results from a commercial software, TRANSYT-7F. The simulation result of the uninterrupted flow model showed that the driver agent displayed human-like behavior ranging from slow and careful driving to fast and aggressive driving. The simulation of the interrupted flow model was implemented as two cases. The first case analyzed traffic flow as the traffic signals changed at different intervals and as the turning traffic volume changed. Second case analyzed the traffic flow as the traffic signals changed at different intervals and as the road length changed. The simulation results of the interrupted flow model showed that the close relationship between traffic state change and traffic signal interval.

Development of a Platform for Realistic Garment Drape Simulation

  • An integrated platform for garment drape simulation system has been developed. In this system, garment patterns from conventional two-dimensional CAD systems can be assembled into a three-dimensional garment on a parametrically resizable realistic human body model. A fast and robust particle-based physical calculation engine has been developed for garment shape generation. Then a series of geometric and graphical techniques were applied to create realistic impressions on simulated garments. This system can be used as the rapid prototyping tool for garments in the future quick-response system.

  • The assembly tolerance design methods have applied linear or nonlinear programming methods and used simulation method and search algorithms to optimize the tolerance allocation of each part in an assembly. However, those methods are only considered to the relationship between tolerance and manufacturing cost, which do not consider a quality loss cost for each part tolerance. In this paper, the integrated simulation model used genetic algorithm and the Monte-Carlo simulation method was developed for the allocation of the optimal tolerance considering the manufacturing cost and quality loss cost.

  • 항공우주 시스템 개발에 있어 M&S (Modeling and Simulation)의 광범위한 사용이 보편화되고 있고 인증(Certification) 혹은 인정 (Accreditation)을 통해 부적절한 M&S의 사용으로 인한 사고나 위험을 제도적으로 방지하려는 노력이 있어 왔다. 본 연구는 이와 관련된 M&S의 VV&A (Verification, Validation, and Accreditation) 활동을 다루었다. 항공우주 M&S는 항공우주시스템 개발에 활용을 목적으로 하고 대부분 물리법칙 기반의 모델링 기법을 사용한다. 또한, 시제제작 후 검증용 데이터가 비행시험을 통해 최종 확보된다는 점에서 여타의 M&S와는 다른 접근방법이 필요하다. 본 연구는 이러한 특성을 고려하여 M&S 개발과 VV&A의 시작점이라 할 수 있는 항공우주 시스템 개발에 적합한 M&S의 수명주기 모델과 개발 패러다임을 다양한 문헌 연구를 토대로 제안하였다.

영상처리 알고리즘 개발을 위한 소프트웨어형상관리시스템 (The software configuration management system for image processing algorithm development)

  • 디지털기기 개발에 있어서 소프트웨어의 중요성이 높아지고, 규모가 커짐에 따라 소프트웨어의 위기를 해결하기 위한 소프트웨어형상관리의 필요성이 증가하고 있다. 그러나 일반적인 소프트웨어형상관리 시스템들은 영상처리 알고리즘 개발 환경의 특성 및 특징들을 수용하기에 부족하다. 영상처리 알고리즘 개발 환경은 컴파일러와 같은 기본적인 개발 도구 외에 컴포넌트(나 라이브러리)들을 인터액티브하게 조합하고 테스트 할 수 있는 시뮬레이션 환경을 통하여 테스트와 분석을 반복하면서 개발하는 특징을 가지고 있다. 뿐만 아니라, 시뮬레이션 과정 중에는 유사한 기능을 가진 알고리즘 중에 적합한 알고리즘을 빠르고 효과적으로 찾기 위한 방법이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 영상처리 알고리즘 개발 환경에서 사용하는 시뮬레이션 도구를 체계적으로 지원해줄 수 있는 비주얼 워크스페이스 기반의 소프트웨어형상관리 방법과 이를 수용할 수 있는 소프트웨어형상관리 시스템을 제안한다. 또한, 개발된 시스템을 실제 시뮬레이션 도구와 연계하여 소프트웨어형상관리 시스템으로써의 적합성을 확인한다.

  • A naphtha reforming process treats the feed naphtha for the production of BTX and high octane gasoline. In this paper, the development of NAFOS (Naphtha Reformer Steady-State Simulator), which is the efficient tool for the wide range of reforming process studies, is presented. NAFOS system is based on the sequential modular approach and composed of unit computation routines, physical properties data base, numerical routines, flowsheet convergence routine and user interfaces for input-output control. The developed NAFOS system has been tested by computation of the UOP Platforrming process. Simulation results of NAFOS corresponded with that of established general purpose simulator (ASPEN PLUS), and faster for the same simulation case.

Simulation of Meshing for the Spur Gear Drive with Modified Tooth Surfaces

  • The authors have proposed methods (lead crowning and profile modification) for modifying the geometry of spur gears and investigated the contact pattern as well as the transmission errors to recommend the appropriate amount of modification. Based on the investigation, dynamic load of the modified spur gear drive has been calculated, which is helpful to predict the life of the designed gear drive. Computer programs for simulation of meshing, contact and dynamics of the modified spur gears have been developed. The developed theory is illustrated with numerical examples.

  • This paper describes the development of hardware simulator for the operation analysis of DC microgrid, which has a wind power, solar power and fuel cell as a distributed generation, and a supercapacitor and battery as an energy storage. A detailed simulation model for the DC microgrid was developed for operation analysis. Based on simulation results a hardware simulator was built in the lab for the purpose of operation analysis. The developed hardware simulator can be utilized to evaluate with practical manner the performance of actual microgrid in the field.

  • RMQC, rail mounted quay crane, lifts and moves large container by means of hoist and trolley motion on the dock. Our company is trying to develop advanced RMQC applying the concepts of elevator hoist and container conveyer for the automation and high efficiency in handling the boxes. Prior to the development of new products, it is necessary to check the capacity of conventional crane for reference. The program simulates container-handling rates and gives some design factors for the conventional cranes.

  • This paper presents the results of vehicle dynamics simulation for development of single axle bogie for freight vehicle. Those results consists of hunting stability, ride comfort and curving performance such as derailment ratio, unloading ratio. Dynamic behaviors of vehicle having single axle bogie is carried out using the multi-body dynamics simulation program(VAMPIRE). The results of analysis meet the criteria proposed by Korean National Railroad(KNR) and Korea Railroad Research Institute(KRRI).
