Development of GaInP-AlGaInP High Power Red Laser Diodes

  • High power, short wavelength red laser diodes (LDs) have attracted significant interests in a variety of fields due to their advantages in terms of reliability, compactness and cost. The higher brightness for human eyes is required, the shorter wavelength like 630 nm is necessary with higher output power. In this respect, LDs are promising as alternative candidates of gas or dye lasers for such applications due to their small size, high optical/electrical power conversion efficiency, robustness and so on. The crystalline quality of GaInP-AlGaInP multiple quantum wells (MQWs) and AlInP cladding layers is a crucial part in the device performance of GaInP red LDs. Here, we first investigated the effect of Si diffusion on the optical properties of GaInP-AlGaInP MQWs grown with different growth temperatures. Secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS) measurements revealed that both the Mg and Si diffusion into MQW active region was significant. To reduce such diffusion, we employed undoped Mg and Si diffusion barrier and could improve the properties.Without both Mg and Si diffusion barriers, no lasing emission was observed. However, lasing emission was observed clearly for the red LDs with both Mg and Si diffusion barriers. We then investigated the temperature dependent optical properties of MQW layers grown with different well thicknesses (6, 8 and 10 nm). When the well thickness was 10 nm, the better crystalline quality was obtained. However, the observed LD performances were similar, probably due to the defects and impurities in the AlGaInP layer. Further investigation with the detailed analyses will be presented later.

Development of Hydrophilic Performance Measurement System for Anti-Condensation Using Computer Image (컴퓨터 영상을 이용한 오염방지 친수성능 측정 시스템 개발)

  • Surface energy is the principal factor of anti-condensation. High surface energy appears hydrophilic itself and low surface energy represents hydrophobic itself. The contact angle is widely being used for measurement of surface energy of materials, evaluation of coating performances, measurement of wettability, and so on. However, the existing contact angle measuring system is so expensive for purchasing and complicated, so it takes a lot of time and money to use. This study was conducted to develop the algorithm for evaluating hydrophilic performance through measuring the contact angle of water droplet automatically, and fabricate relatively simple measuring system using a low-cost monochrome camera and image processing. A constant amount of water was firstly allocated on a slide by a micropipette, and then the image of water droplet was captured by monochrome digital camera and sent to a computer. The image was binarized and then reduced noises by labeling. Finally, the contact angle of water droplet was computed by using three points (left, right, and top coordinates), simple linear mathematics, and trigonometric function. The experimental results demonstrated the accuracy and reproducibility of the developed system showing less deviations and deviation ratio.

A Preliminary Study of Licensing Facilitation Standards for Improvements in Quality for Childcare Centers (보육시설의 질적 향상을 위한 설치기준에 관한 기초연구)

  • This study examines the preliminary license and approval facilitation standards for improvements in quality for childcare centers focusing on the number of children, building space standards, facilities and equipment, and childcare program. Data from 48 caese was collected from childcare centers nationwide in Korea through a questionnaire and building plan. The first step for starting care licensing is to work out the ages and numbers of children within four or five age ranges. The second step is to work out the number of children as small, medium, or large considering staff to child ratios and building size. The Nnext step is to make a choice about childcare service quality classification as minimum, fair, or good, considering space requirements per child for the building, the classroom and the outdoor playground. The next step is to make a choice of space organization relating to service programs, considering the sleeping and eating area, indoor play area, toilet & washing facilities, classroom layouts such as cluster type, double zone type, single zone type, and others. Also, each room and entrance, office, kitchen, storage, laundry, teacher's area, and chilldren's area, need to be checked for space requirements and performances. The last step is to arrange the childcare program with the building and site plan. In conclusion childcare service quality will get better by upgrading of license regulation especially in minimum space requirements per child, corresponding with an increase in GNP and housing area per person. This is needed for childcare licensing in order to determine the quality level of childcare service.

  • As structures' long term performances and users' safety have been highlighted, a new maintenance technique using IT has drawn attention around the globe. Therefore, throughout the paper, by analyzing bridge's static and dynamic data using wireless measuring sensor, a "real time smart bridge monitoring system" has developed. Smart bridge monitoring system is consists of three main parts a sensor that can measure major members' movement, a wireless system that informs the data from the sensor, and the database system that analysis the data. In order to test the performance of the system, five different were placed on the Olympic Bridge, Seoul. The power system of the sensors was replaced by self-sustain solar energy system. In order to validate data from the real time smart bridge monitoring system, the data was collected for a week from both wireless system and the wired system and the two data were compared to see the relevance.

  • This study examined the trends of an illustration artist's art marketing widening its area in recent years and proposes a design concept of color cosmetics. Art marketing is a type of culture marketing and means marketing through exhibitions, performances and other artistic activities. Free artistic sensibility expression in which the artistic motif is melted into a product beyond the works of a particular artist, and the product, in turn, can be reflected in the canvas, has attracted attention. The works of illustrators are widening their area into the item in life not canvas. This paper proposes the color cosmetics design that reflect art marketing. The main target who proposed the design concept was trend-oriented and in their early to mid-20s with a strong personality, showing a strong tendency of attracting attention and being recognized. To emphasize the design concept of color cosmetics packaging design, the progressive image of the target class was reflected through brilliant and intense color combination. The cultural value and meaning are provided as the artistic mood becomes a part of life.

  • The purpose essay, through overall theoretical studies and comparison analysis of a performing art situation, aims to search for the creation and direction of various performing arts and examined the prospect and activation plans for performing arts of the future. The summary of the main contents deducted from this research was as follows. First, branding through unique competitive contents was found only in Northern Gyeonggi-do. Secondly, excellent performing art human resource supply from the locality is an urgent priority. Thirdly, by propelling diversification of performing programs, the performing art consuming activation movement that induces people to participate in the performances was actively developed. Fourthly, the most important thing for the ultimate goal achievement of art policy is excellent human resource development through professional education in each field of art.

  • A modeling and simulation program for an environmental control system (ECS) of a pod installed under wings of an aircraft was developed in order to estimate the system‘s performance during a flight. First, through the system configuration analysis in the main operational condition of the aircraft system, an ECS configuration adopting an air cycle machine (ACM) was selected. Therefore the modeling program was developed to simulate the ECS with an ACM. Second, the sensitivity analyses on performance variation of main components were conducted to complete the conceptual design of the ECS. A design point for the system and its components was obtained through the analysis with the modeling and simulation program. Third, in order to study the feasibility of the ECS configuration, off-design performances of the ECS on various flight conditions, such as take off, maneuver, cruise and landing etc were estimated. Dynamic characteristics were analyzed by transient performance evaluations.

Study on the Development of the Customized Ready-Made Hull Forms according to the Retrofit (선박개조에 따른 고객 맞춤형 기성품 선형 개발)

  • The primary objective of the current work was to develop a standardized retrofit hull form capable of saving energy based on existing vessels. The bow shape of existing vessels was investigated, giving consideration to design draft and speed. Resistance performances were assessed for existing vessels according to operating conditions. Commercial CFD codes and model test materials were used for assessment of effective power. Three retrofit hull forms with minimum resistance were selected given real operating conditions. These vessels were named after customized ready-made hull forms to enable ship owners to make easier choices. The effective power of each vessel was estimated under real operating conditions. Subjects were operated with the lowest draft, and performance for retrofit No. 3 showed an 11-16% improvement in effective power at low speed ranges of 16-18 knots compared to existing vessels. When operated with a middle draft, performance for retrofit No. 3 showed a 6-11% improvement in effective power at low speed ranges compared to existing vessels. When operated with the highest draft, performance for all vessels showed little difference in effective power.

Effects of Supplemental Fermented Agro By-products Diet on the Growth Performances, Blood Characteristics and Carcass Traits in Fattening Pigs

  • Effects of a supplemental fermented agro by-products diet on growth performance, blood characteristics and carcass traits were investigated in fattening pigs. The fermented diet mainly contained 38.0% brewer's grain, 25.0% rice bran and 21.0% byproduct of king oyster mushrooms. The mixed ingredients were fermented at $40^{\circ}C$ for 7 days and fed to crossbred barrow pigs for 62 days. Ninety pigs were housed in 10 head per pen with three replicate pens per treatment. The pigs in the control group were fed with formula feed, while the pigs in T1 group were fed 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100% fermented diet substituted with formula feed on 1 week interval. Pigs in T2 group were fed 30, 60 and 100% fermented diet substituted with formula feed on 1 week interval. The fermented diet significantly (p<0.05) decreased body weight gain and feed efficiency of pigs. The blood characteristics differed with diet types. Carcass grade was significantly better (p<0.05) in the pigs fed fermented diet than in the pigs fed control diet as well as ratio of high grade was higher in the fermented diet groups. Therefore, although a dietary of fermented diet decreased growth performance and feed efficiency, it improved the carcass grade in pigs.

  • CAD system is a very important technology in designing many products which we are using today. This CAD technology have enlarging its area into 3D CAD systems with the development of computer graphics technologies. In particular, such advances have also been realized in special area such as the CAD system for designing shoes. 3D CAD systems for shoes design must provide compatibility between 3D and 2D data because shoes are made using 2D parts of pieces of leather or cloth. Many designers get high performances using 2D shoe CAD systems because they have had long practices with the 2D systems. Therefore, to get the mapping between 2D modeling and 3D modeling is one of very important components in 3D CAD system. In this paper, we proposed a flattening method that convert 3D shoes data to 2D data.
